History / German Traitor And Polish Pig [96]

Those men had families too. They left wives and children behind, not knowing if they would ever see them again, they went to defend theirs and other families. I think you've watched too many Hollywood movies, that might be how Tom Cruise et al., portray war veterens, Hollywood is nothing like the real thing.

History / German Traitor And Polish Pig [96]

The war ended over 65 years ago, long before any of us were born. What's the point in all those people dieing while fighting for peace when all this hatred continues among people who weren't even born then.

My Dad told me something only the other day. Dad was a submariner, not during the war, long after. However, about 15 years ago Dad got a phone call from the steward of the Naval association club, who like Dad was also an ex submariner. He said to Dad "Can you get down here now, there's someone I want you to meet" When Dad arrived an ex U-boatman was there, he was on holiday from Germany and had walked into the Naval association club introduced himself and said he would like to meet some British submariners, so the steward phoned around every submariner he knew, some of them also having served during the war. The old U boatman was the third and last survivor of a U-boat that had been torpedoed many stories were swapped between the old man and the British submariners who had served during the war, my Dad had many stories from his father who was in the Navy during the war. These men had fought each other at sea during the war, yet in peacetime they drank together and shared stories.

Life / Observation of Polish drivers, by and English anthropologist. [94]

When you mount a horse , you always mount from the left side of the horse this is due to your sword being on the left side of your body , and avoids having to drag your long sword over the horses back....

Plus , being mostly right handed, it's more effective when giving two fingers to the twat that's just overtaken you

the two fingered thing is all the fault of the bloody French as well

UK, Ireland / Are Poles in UK really that big of a deal? [112]

Could be.. but the British were pretty hospitable to this dude which surprised me because I thought they were racist in general.

That surprised you, but not me. We often hear people on here, who have never set foot in the UK go on and on about the British Empire blah blah blah. The fact is after India got her independence in 1947, a lot of Indians (Pakistanis were Indian before partition) chose to move to Britain and take British citizenship, our two countries have a shared a long history, many Indian words have made their way into our language and Indian food, not just curry, we wouldn't have chutney with a traditional ploughman's lunch for starters. An Indian work colleague who came here age 8, once said to me "Do you ever wonder what foreigners think of us British?"

UK, Ireland / Are Poles in UK really that big of a deal? [112]

one thing was stricter policies but the more important thing was chavs and criminals moved to the UK

and that shows where I live, the EU's open border policy will be it's downfall, people who were pro EU before have now turned anti EU, because of the effects this policy has had where they live

UK, Ireland / Are Poles in UK really that big of a deal? [112]

I'd love to see it when it happens

You know whats really funny they are friggen huge here in the UK, most of them are well over 6 foot and built like brick shite houses, i always assumed that Poland would be full of meat heads judging by the ones ive seen and known in the UK but its just not true, why many of the ones in my area are so mean looking is beyond me.

I think this is the problem, the first flux of Poles that came here, were genuine people looking for work, but it looks like they have now been followed by the scum of the country. Before anyone gets on their high horse, every country has it's scum, and it appears that a disproportionally high number of scum have come here from Poland. this is a rural area where people never locked their doors at night, there was very little crime, Polish 'scum' as opposed to decent hard-working Poles have seen an opportunity in this weakness, turned up in their droves and turned previously safe places to live as unsafe. Where I live we have had a couple of murders and an armed police siege at the house around the corner and I'm sorry to say it has been Poles each time, this sort of thing was unheard of here before.

UK, Ireland / How to set up a charity in the UK? [20]

Unfortunately I don't know much about English rules. I live in the States

Evidently.

For one, if it is not registered with the Charity Commission it cannot use the words charity or charitable, or claim to be such. I have found American 'rules' rather lax when it comes to charity. Whereas our charity laws, were first brought into effect in 1601 with the statute of Elizabeth, it was then given a permanent commission in 1853, thus becoming the Charity Commission. Queen Liz the first was no fool, she could see people were using the word 'charity' to fill their own pockets and not those in need, so she set about making laws to change that.

I heard a story yesterday from a friend in England (i might add) who said three huge Polish dudes tried to beat him up.

Is this the attack you're referring to, three Poles have been arrested, the young man has been left with 'life changing injuries' looks like he has permanent brain damage

And I also wonder if charity can be a business as well, I mean something you can earn money for life?

A charity can be incorporated as a business, it is known as a charitable incorporated organisation or CIO, the purpose of the business is to make money for the charity. Staff who work for charities can be paid, but there must be no conflict of interest. For someone involved with the charity, either as a trustee of charity correspondent, to be taken onto the payroll, they must first clear it with the charity commission, proving no conflict of interest. If you are looking for a business venture, then be prepared to pay taxes, charitable status is not for you.

Life / Observation of Polish drivers, by and English anthropologist. [94]

I've just started reading a book by English anthropologist Kate Fox, daughter of Robin Fox, also an anthropologist. She explains how growing up with her father, he taught her how to study people when entering a new country for the first time and, how this has always remained with her, she then givers the following example;

Two years ago, for example, my fiancé Henry took me to visit some friends in Poland. As we were driving in an English car, he relied on me, the passenger, to tell him when it was safe to overtake. Within twenty minutes of crossing the Polish border, I started to say 'Yes, go now, it's safe,' even when there were vehicles coming towards us on a two-lane road.
After he had hastily applied the brakes and aborted a planned overtake at the last minute, he clearly began to have doubts about my judgement. 'What are you doing? (...)

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

English people were prejudiced to all forigners.

then you say

We will favour our own ancestral origines and cultural customs, there is no denying this fact

Maybe they didn't like the culture you brought into their culture, being majority Catholic probably got you off onto a bad footing

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

They're based not so much on religion as culture. Seeing as how the cultures that practice face covering cannot create the kind of civil society that I like living in I'm all for banning them in public areas. In the west you show your face in public. Don't like it? Go somewhere where it's the norm.

This Imam agrees with you

Unlike many of the so called 'Imams' who are self appointed with no formal education, this man is a doctor of theology at Oxford and has upset a few Muslims by allowing a woman to speak in his mosque. If there were more like him there wouldn't be this problem

If you've got time to watch this, he explains more

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

I've been reading this thread and so far have not had the patience to respond to some of the brainwashed propaganda. Some of you people criticizing the French wanting to defend teh culture of their country, should familiarise yourselves with the age of the Barbary pirate and the Tangier's wars

The Barbary Pirates
histclo.com/essay/war/bp/bar-pir.html

I get sick of all this one sided history, where it's always the bad white man and poor innocent any other race. North Africa was a problem to many European countries on the Mediterranean, remember it was the Moors who invaded Spain, not the other way around. Children are taught in school that only black people were slaves, not so.

When are people going to learn, that history is seldom about good versus bad, it's about winners and losers, the losers always paint the winners as the bad guy.

That's the point a lot of people overlook Bart. For every brave daring person who demands the right to risk their own lives if they want to, there is a team of people who have to risk theirs to save their necks and it comes at a cost

UK, Ireland / What do you hate about England and English people? [142]

8. Feeling uncomfortable when people talk about their emotions

If when you was a child you was threatened with extreme violence for crying, I doubt there's an English person here who wasn't told by their mothers "if you don't stop crying I'll give you something to cry about" you would feel uncomfortable too. God, you'll be expecting us to talk about our sex lives next.

UK, Ireland / Poland and Britain? What has caused the downtur in the UK? [28]

I agree, instead of MPs being paid a salary and huge expenses, they should just be allowed leave from work and compensation for loss of wages, so that they neither gain nor lose out financially. A former work colleague of mine was mayor for a year, he was allowed a paid year off of work to do the job. They should also be made to stick to their election promises, failure to do so and they're out.

UK, Ireland / Poland and Britain? What has caused the downtur in the UK? [28]

The last elections are a case in point - Labour should have been absolutely slaughtered, but wasn't.

Labour changing boundaries had a lot to do with that. Fewer people voted Labour in 2005 when they got in with a clear majority, than the number who voted Tory last year which culminated in a hung parliament. Take where I live for example, it has always been a close contest between Liberal and Tory, the neighbouring constituency has always been a safe Tory seat. The last Labour government changed the boundaries, moving the part of the constituency with the major Tory vote, to the neighbouring safe Tory seat, which has now made the constituency I now live in a safe Liberal seat, without the Liberal vote increasing, creating one less Tory seat against Labour. Add to this a lot of people's lives were decimated under the last Tory government, these people will either continue to vote Labour just to keep the Tory's out, or not bother voting at all.

There's no difference between New Labour the Tories or the Lib Dems, they're all a bunch of lying, self serving career politicians, who couldn't give a flying **** for the electorate, as long as they keep voting for them and their mates. Blair, Cameron and Clegg were all educated at highly expensive public schools, strait into Oxbridge, then from there to politics, not a bloody clue about the country or it's people and not a care either.

News / Poland ready to receive Libyan refugees [159]

Well, Germany at least has the treaty that we only have to take asylumseekers if they don't come through another EU country...and seeing that we are surrounded by safe countries that should make it hard for them to go through to us...theoretically!

yeah, like Calais......... what I fail to understand is, why all these asylum seekers are young men, what happened to the old men, women and children? There was a time when refugees tended to consist of whole families

They fought also for UK in RAF

what all of them? I never realised our air force was that big

Churchill lost the war,

Amazing with all those pilots

If you give libyan refuges your citizenship, we will accept them in our country.

and the ones who married Polish girls to get a UK passport?

Maybe therefore that those soldiers fought for UK?

I think they were fighting for Poland actually

We didn`t start the libya conflict. UK, france, USA did it. So they should accept refuges.

And there was me thinking it was the Libyan rebels

Which Polish refugees ?

We've got huge financial problems. Reduce it to 3.

Careful Greg, Two's company, three's a crowd, are you sure you can cope with a crowd of them?

UK, Ireland / John Drennan: "Poles in fear of starved Irish influx" [15]

The author adds that "in the period of prosperity the proud animal was the symbol of high status'' but that "today, too expensive to maintain, they die of hunger".

This is not just an Irish problem, the cost of hay and horse feed has increased so much that people here in the UK can no longer afford to feed their horses. Animal charities in the UK have been dealing with the same problem here. There is also a similar problem with the price of pig feed increasing so much that pig farmers face going out of business. A little bit of 'creative' journalism there I think.
