Work / Moving to Poland (from the UK) to take a teaching position. Tips? [34]

Some businessmen the world over are con artists but they are not as sly/smart as the Poles who make them look amateurish.

Many of the world's sly/smart con artists can trace their family lineages, however brief the stay, to Poland.

Edit: :)

USA, Canada / Born in Canada, Polish parents. Am I still a citizen of Poland? [14]

Your old passport, current ID, and cash is enough - in person, at the consulate, is best.
You're issued one PESEL number - the first six digits comprise your birth date: YYMMDD.

By 'current ID', I mean an unexpired photo ID - in case you're asked to prove you're you.

^ Yeah, my grandmother would render the duck unconscious with one hit and then slit its throat to drain the blood.

Life / How Long Before Poland Has Its 'Dumbest Generation'? [84]

"There is an onslaught of stuff being sold to us from the second they come out of the womb trying to convince us that they are nincompoops [...] They need to go to Gymboree or they will never hum and clap! To teach them how to walk, you're supposed to turn your child into a marionette by strapping this thing on them that holds them up because it helps them balance more naturally than 30,000 years of evolution!"

Do I detect hostility here? :)
Maybe Israel should extend itself to those Roma who are Jewish.

Okay, so there is no love lost between many Torah Jews and the Zionist Talmud Jews, as I had stated here:

Like I said, they are the unwanted amongst the Chosen - not even Israel wants Roma Jews.
Actually, this suits them fine, seeing as though some Torah Jews are staunchly anti-Zionist.

What I find amazing is that I, an American-born Polish citizen raised as a Roman Catholic, may stand as good a chance
of moving to Israel - only because my DNA test shows me to be Ashkenazi Jew - as do those "Rumni who are Hebrew":

Look, I'm not trying to change anything - simply, because I can't. I'm only expressing an opinion supported by the facts.
Besides: the great, vast majority of Romani are NOT Jewish - even though similarities exist - so this is really a side issue.

News / Poles DO return to the UK [39]

Bad move losing monetary control of your economy.

Nations did that long ago when they ceded it to their Central Banks.
The banker's profits, not the nation's people, are first and foremost.

sold Britain's gold at its lowest price

Gee, someone got a great deal.

The only way to get it is to know someone on a farm who has some ducks

That's exactly how we did it in NYS when I was (much) younger.

It's impossible to find the blood in Poland

until you venture out into rural Poland. :)

USA, Canada / Born in Canada, Polish parents. Am I still a citizen of Poland? [14]

I read on the consulate's website that when you are between 16 and 17.5 years old, you have to reapply for something citizenship related.

This procedure only pertains if your parent's had 'renounced' your citizenship on your behalf when you were a child.
Since they obviously did not (you had a passport), you have nothing to worry about. So, enjoy your new passport!

that I am still a Polish and Canadian citizen

Again, not to worry: YOU ARE BOTH!

You're nuts!

Suit yourself:
"Interestingly, in another study, a few Polish Roma (Gypsies) had both specific M5 Indian mtDNA as well as a very few Ashkenazi haplotype sequences..."

- Tracing Your Jewish DNA For Family History & Ancestry: Merging a Mosaic of Communities - Anne Hart (ISBN: 0-595-28127-3)

Roma took the religions of host countries.

As others have - I absolutely agree.

I don't think their religious affiliations (if any) have anything to do with their way of self-degrading living.

Like I said, they are the unwanted amongst the Chosen - not even Israel wants Roma Jews.
Actually, this suits them fine, seeing as though some Torah Jews are staunchly anti-Zionist.

I'm having a blond moment I'm sure, but what do you mean?

And to think I always mistook you to be a brunette :)

I agree the plight of the Roma is a sad one; that said, a more concerted effort should be made to repatriate the Jews among them.

One would think that all Roma Torah Jews would return to Israel (as some have) - aye, there's the rub: Roma Jews are Torah Jews.

???

Of course you know that Gypsies are Christians, don't you?

Do you mean like the 'Christian' Sephartic Jews?

The Jews have historically had a manner of blending in with (or hiding in) their host nations;
while I am not saying that all Romani are Jewish, there are Roma Jews subsisting in Europe.

Let me guess: you live in a country native to Slavic-looking peoples.
Anyway, I am sure there are Slavs all around India begging for grub.

well gypsies ARE indians in fact.

Just like their Kosher brethren.

Perhaps the likes of delphiandomine could see fit to 'volunteer' their time to teach these unfortunates some English.
Then, the same unfortunates could migrate to delphiandomine's native country to further their professional careers.

Life / The Polish national 'brand' [21]

Again, as a Polish-American, I cannot agree more or add anything else to this. My wish is that Poland realizes her greatness in her own light.

LOL - I'd love to see this on a T-shirt!

Yeah, that really DOES have a certain ring to it :)

UK, Ireland / Common pitfalls for Poles learning English [187]

How much would generally refer to sugar intake generally

And, in this example, "lumps (of sugar)" is quantifiable; hence, a 'count noun'.
On the other hand, "sugar" itself is unquantifiable; hence, a 'non-count noun'.
(While one may ask "How many sugars?", a cube, spoon, etc. is thus implied.)

Ha ha - the answer. The reasoning being that it is assumed there is only one like the sun, the sky etc

Actually, depending on context, both are correct. (Edit: 'definite' vs. 'indefinite')
