News / New road taxes in Poland? [13]

Yeah I think that's exactly what it's to do with. I currently have a load of stuff being delayed because of this and I'm sure a nice extra sum on the shipping companies bill! Any idea how much this tax is or why they have done it?

News / New road taxes in Poland? [13]

Does anyone know anything about a new road tax being implemented from this week and currently there are over 20 kilometres of queues at Polish borders?

Travel / Off to Poznan in July - what the beer prices are like? [24]

@ Harry the place you call the k-hole is a bit crap now not so popular I don't remember the address though

@ Maxim this place will show the boxing for sure inyourpocket.com/poland/poznan/bars-pubs-clubs/barspubs/Kri ek-Belgian-Pub-and-Cafe_56244v you should phone and reserve a table in advance though as it is small and gets busy the owner speaks English so you shouldn't have any problems. I will be watching the fight in there myself.

Travel / Off to Poznan in July - what the beer prices are like? [24]

Beer is between 7zl and 9zl in most places.

As you are coming in the Summer your best bet is find the main square where there are loads of pubs with gardens, most of them are good for sitting outside. Two pubs you should visit are Dragon it is on Ul. Zamkowa 5 and Meskalina on Stary Rynek 6. With the two I have mentioned you are better off heading there later (around midnight)

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

No, did I say you were?

Just out of interest how much are you hoping/claiming the property prices are going to fall within the next few years? And do you think you will be able to afford to buy when they hit this level that only you seem to believe in? Have you ever owned property anywhere?

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

No, It will not. The prices In the cities will continue to fall until they reflect the wages of the Polish workers in Poland and its cities

You my son are living in a dream world! I have read your tosh on this forum for so long now you are like a broken record and not one thing you have predicted has ever come true. In ten years time you will still be claiming that there is this big bubble and you still won't own a property, sorry to say but you are really boring mate.

Work / I am currently 75% through an on line TEFL course & moving to Krakow [35]

No probs, I know that one of the Irish bars had a foreign chef at some stage so maybe you might have some luck.

I wasn't trying to be really negative about the teaching thing I just know it's hard nowadays, if you are coming in August you are coming at a good time because alot of schools will still be recruiting then for the coming term. The sooner you can get here and start walking into these schools the better, the Poles are not good at responding to emails and also everyone is very easy to forget via email!

I sell some English products and if we have a chat providing you don't turn out to be some sort of idiot! I would be happy to send you some stock on a sale or return basis and if you are inventive enough you wouldn't even need to rent a premises to sell these products

Yeah you are right there are start up costs and whenever you open a business you have to expect that there can be some losses at the start. I have my own business here in Poznan and I started with hardly any money so I know it is possible. If you want to have a chat about stuff you can pm me your number or skype username and I would happy to go through some ideas with you.

In regards to the whole teaching thing it is a declining market and in somewhere like Krakow it is also a saturated market. Also if you want to try and get into it I would say emailing a school is a waste of time you will struggle to get any reply yet alone a positive one you really need to be here on the ground getting in these peoples faces. Do you have money to tide you over for six or so months while you are here looking for work? No one here has mentioned that there are a couple of irish owned pubs here one is called the Irish mbassy and they serve food, you mentioned you were a chef so maybe thats worth a shot?

You are right you need an original idea. It doesn't have to cost a fortune to set up a small business and it could be your best bet in the long run. I don't know krakow to well but just for example what about opening an all things English/Irish shop there must be enough expats and tourists in krakow for something like this to work.

Polonia / SHIPPING HOUSE CONTENTS: from Poland to Moscow. Suggest a company? [17]

1500 quid

By the time you pay for your flights as well that is going to be about 7500zl I would be surprised if that would not be enough to get someone from Poland to do it. Don't look at removal companies look at independent guys with vans there are loads of them here on gumtree

Law / ALLEGRO fees - I can't find them anywhere. How much it costs to sell something on ALLEGRO? [8]

I sell thousands of items each month on Allegro so if you tell me what you are trying to sell and how you are listing it i.e buy it now or auction then I can give you some figures

I guess if they are new items you will be selling them on buy it now, roughly the listing fees for each items will be about 2-3 zloty (this may be more if you put lots of photos and choose to promote your item.) Just try listing one item and before you hit the button to confirm the listing it will tell you exactly how much it will cost you. One thing you may want to consider is that if you are planning on selling lots of items it would be in your interest to open an Allegro store. It makes listing a lot cheaper, for example the items I sell without an Allegro store it costs 30gr per item to list with an Allegro store it costs 5gr so it's a big difference

Work / Moving to Poland: is 100 000 PLN good for a start? [12]

To try and answer the op's original question then yes 100k would be a good start even if you used half of it to keep you afloat for the first year (just over 4k a month is more than enough to live ok for that period.) It would still leave you 50k to set up a small business, finding a viable idea would be the challenge but it is possible.

If you are a native speaker of Arabic with a degree in English lit then it is possible you could get a job at a local uni teaching Arabic.

I can't believe that half this thread has gone and half my post has been changed by a mod. The amount of Racist s**t on this forum that doesn't get removed is beyond a joke and yet me simply saying that this forum can be quite negative is worthy of being edited? It's an absolute joke.

your post was not changed. other than the off topic part being removed.

the content of all the other removed posts was also off topic.

Life / Want to watch BBC iplayer in Poland? [59]

isthatu2

Not sure what point you are trying to make here but BBC prime doesn't exist anymore. Just to clear something up YOU pay your tv license so YOU can watch tv not so people in Poland can watch it! Strange post, oh well it takes all sorts!

Life / Want to watch BBC iplayer in Poland? [59]

You should try filmon.com it costs 10 euro a month but you get real time streams for most UK channels including bbc1, 2 itv1, 2, 3 c4 e4 more 4 five fiver and a load more.

I have been using this for about five months now and the stream is always perfect never any problems and 10 euro is not much.

Law / Any good business ideas - what Poland needs? [114]

When I was a kid we had a whistle operated bell that you attached to your keys, so if you whistled the bell would ring and you could find them

You could start selling them in Poland, almost every pound shop sells them back home I'm guessing when buying in bulk unit cost would be about 40p

Life / All Saints' Day in Poland - Commemoration or Carnival? [44]

It says a strange thing about a culture where one of the most popular holidays of the year involves the celebration of going to cemeteries.

I don't think it is a celebration, more a day of reflection and remembering those we have lost. There are a lot of traditions and values in this country that Polish people are and should be proud of and just maybe if we had some of these in the UK the country wouldn't be in the state it's in now.

Life / My own thoughts about life in Poland (have lived here for two years) [133]

Either that, or a population of hypochondriacs

You've hit the nail on the head there! Every Polish person I know has a whole cupboard full of medicine. I will never forget an ex flatmate of mine who produced a large suitcase full of medicine when I complained of a sore throat!

If you want to get rich in this country open an Apteka!

UK, Ireland / UK Ip address while living in Poland [14]

I signed up to this:

filmon.com/tv/

It costs 10euro a month but you get bbc 1, 2 itv ch4 and loads more and the stream is crystal clear, well worth the money. I have been watching the snooker all week plus various other shows and not had any problems with it. Each channel even has a low speed option if you don't have fast internet.
