Life / Jail in Poland - how is it like? [5]

if they are better than jails in the U.S,

Yes, better, coz in American jails inmate rape is a common and accepted procedure while in Poland one can demand and receive protection or even sue the prison authorities if such incidents take place.

Life / I'm going through IVF in Poland - Ask Me Anything [14]

Yes, PiS government withdrew state funding to IVF. However, about 10 cities run their own programmes: Gdańsk, Warszawa, Wrocław, Słupsk, Szczecin, Chojnice, Ostrów Wielkopolski.

Law / Court punishment Poland - work for punishment instead of jail [36]

If such a person is 'proud' of it, for some F up reason. Ofcurse it is considered a rudeness.

Assuming they exhibit this pride in front of natives, yes, it is rudeness. But most Brits don`t do such things, they are too well mannered. British soccer fans excluded. :):)

Love / Had a big problem in Poland - a guy lied to me [33]

I'm staying with my friend to recover mentally.

When you recover, I think you should write a book about your fascinating experiences in Poland. It might become a bestseller one day. ):)

Anyone could translate this english lyrics to polish?

This English isn`t original, it has already been translated from Spanish as it is a song by a certain juvenile singer, Melanie Garcia.

At the bottom of the trunk..... hahahaha

I won`t venture to translate it for you. Sorry.

Law / Court punishment Poland - work for punishment instead of jail [36]

I think it's more the American preference for broad and shallow social networks

Interesting observation.

I'll add that it's only Brits who seem.... proud of living for years in Poland and not knowing any Polish.

That`s a sort of tribute paid to all Poles who make up for those Brits` language deficiencies with their English.

Law / Court punishment Poland - work for punishment instead of jail [36]

it is not easy to bring up a family on say 4000 zloty netto for two people working,

Probably you don`t count 500+. So, 4000 net for only two people outside a big city is not a bad amount. There are people who have much less.

Life / A big guy controlling parking spaces in Warsaw [5]

I heard about this guy. He directs drivers to empty spaces and then requests a little donation. You don`t need to give it if you don`t want to. It is much worse in Italy where youth gangs prey on tourists and are very cruel to their cars when not sponsored.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [900]

they died together in huge battles like Stalingrad.

Brat, I thought my post was logical and appropriate enough: this thread deals with helping Poles/Poland in the first stages of WW2. It is not about Stalingrad which took place in 1942/3. Should I really explain such basic things? :):)

Which "people" do you mean exactly?

People who welcomed refugee Poles already in September 1939, took care of them and helped them move to the West in the following weeks.

Life / Is it OK in Poland to walk a dog in a graveyard? [11]

Dont see any signs not to, but received funny looks.

Curious to know: do you take your dog to the cemetery in the country of your permanent residence? E..g, the USA or UK?

Life / Is it OK in Poland to walk a dog in a graveyard? [11]

No signs coz it is commonly accepted that dogs aren`t welcome in cemeteries. The habit of male dogs peeing at every protruding object on their way somehow contradicts the serious atmosphere of the place. :):)

Study / Primary/Secondary International Schools in Poznan [13]

Primary/Secondary School with some Polish language course for foreigners

Oops, there are no such schools. You have to enroll your kid in an English school and pay fees for it. Or in a free Polish school and hope for teachers` understanding and help.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [900]

What is astounding, since Romania was a german ally....

Yes, and another such helper was Hungary - also a German ally. The peoples of these two countries helped Poles out of their own choice, without orders from their governments and without expecting anything in return.

So, let me supplement my previous statement: Respect to Romanians and Hungarians. All other countries and peoples who happened to help Poland/ Poles had their own interest in it.

Nobody helped Poland during or after WWII.

Stop discrediting yourself. Before writing such stupidities, can you get acquainted with the opinions discussed in the thread and historical sources available on the net?

History / Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Serbia- segmented. Who is next? Poland? [90]

having in mind rumors in case with Silesia, about Poland, as next victim of EU globalization.

The nationalist tensions in Silesia have subsided recently, it seems a few activists tried to gain their 5 minute fame a few years ago but now they seem to have found another interest after seeing the lack of support for their cause.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [900]

who really was the first to help poland?

Hmm, the first helpers that come to my mind are Romanians. They welcomed thousands of Polish refugees, both military and civilians, who escaped German occupation. Later a lot of the military, especially pilots, were transfered to the West where they joined the allied forces and fought hard against Germans. Romanian authorities closed an eye to those illegal journeys, though they were pressed by Germans allies to keep Poles in strict detention. And Romanian population also helped Poles.

So, let`s pay our respect to humane Romanians who acted like real friends of Poland.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_Bridgehead

Up to 120,000 Polish troops withdrew through the Romanian Bridgehead area to neutral Romania and Hungary. The majority of those troops joined the newly formed Polish Armed Forces in the West in France and the United Kingdom in 1939 and 1940.

Study / Delayed Arrival in Warsaw university of Technology [8]

No, the term always starts in October. So, the delay is only 3 weeks. I thought they could close an eye. Well, they must be really strict.

Or there is a chance the OP didn`t pay all the enrollment fees and the deadline for that could be mid October. If that is the case, they can`t close an eye, indeed - no messing with money.

Study / Delayed Arrival in Warsaw university of Technology [8]

Forget showing up at the university and expecting them to change their minds. They won't. Not in a million years.

I read this exchange with interest and I must say it surprised or even shocked me. Why would a Polish uni be so strict about a few days` delay? Why such crazy attitude towards foreigners who can`t be blamed for their visa problems? It is so unPolish.....

Life / Slogans and designs on Polish T-shirts also represent culture of Poland [25]

2 or 3 years ago, when PiS started to break constitutional law, a clever copywriter invented this succinct slogan - Constitution with 2 highlighted words: you and me inside. That was to remind PiS about certain democratic principles.

Here, Lech Wałęsa loves to wear that garb.
