News / Lech Walesa vs Immigration: Brits humiliated him at London Heathrow Airport [105]

they singled him out

They have strict criteria to follow when deciding who to check.

and completely disrespected him

They treated him in the same way as anyone else - why would they do otherwise?

they made a spectical of it.

Nonsense. The only person to make a spectacle was him, huffing and puffing and expecting to circumvent the rules.

News / Lech Walesa vs Immigration: Brits humiliated him at London Heathrow Airport [105]

jon, did you read the article? This is not about a screening procedure, this was about a arrogant and disrespectful way that the british officer treated Walesa.

Read it years ago, long before you dredged the thread up for whatever strange reason. He was treated like anyone else in the same circumstances - being a Knight of the British Empire as Lech is doesn't confer any special status at airports, nor is he a diplomat.

Language / Devoicing of Polish consonants not always correct? [11]

I figure therefore that my pronunciation of these combinations at least must be authentic. My grammar on the other hand??? That's another storyLOL

Normal!

ells you to like "MUF", long story short, she told me to pronounce that as "MUW"

The second is more normal, at least in Eastern Poland. Remember though that the actual sound is somewhere between the way an American would say moof and move....

News / Lech Walesa vs Immigration: Brits humiliated him at London Heathrow Airport [105]

This was a ridiculous insult to one of the greatest heroes generated by Poland.

Would be the same as let their f****ing queen naked on Chopin Airport.

Rubbish. He went through the normal screening procedures that anyone without a diplomatic passport is subject to if deemed appropriate.

Now with a leader like Duda, had that happened again, would not pass so quietly.

Duda would relish it - he hates Walesa. And if he decided to make trouble, the answer would be the same - "get lost".

But good to know that the search function works with 'London' as the search term where you are.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Anyway, may I remind you that there are plenty of LGBT citizens that also like and follow Polish traditions.

Indeed. And who are happy that human rights are respected by Polish law and the constitution as well as European law which in any case takes precedence. And shrug off the bad behaviour of bigots like water off a duck's back.

Then again, you wouldn't know this, because the only interaction you seem to have with the LGBT community in Poland is on PolishForums.

I wouldn't be so sure of that one...

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Seems fair to me. They don't damage anything or hurt anyone, unlike the other 1.5% minority that routinely destroys Warsaw every November.

Still, having seen the last march in Poznań, there was a definite lack of simulated sodomy. Rather disappointing, given that Polonius promised there would be.

Spot on, but haters are haters. They have no coherent arguments to back up their point of view (which is why they don't get what they want either in the US, the UK, France or even in Poland), so like our friend here they just resort to lies and vulgarity.

And meanwhile the world turns without them, and human rights become more and more an entrenched part of our society.

et, you smoothly managed to present yourself as a victim

Really? Do show where...

a very good idea to debate rights homosexuals enjoy in Poland at the moment

Better than in most of the world, certainly, but still a way to go. Some on the conservative side of things would like it to be like Africa, south of the, ahem, Nile.

propaganda promoting political LGBT agenda

No such thing...

What rights do they enjoy that ordinary citizens don't benefit from?

Quite.

What other genetically impaired group

The 'group' in the thread title are not impaired...

When did you last read a children's book about "the Little Penguin" with no wings or arms? Have you ever watched an annual Cripples on Parade event? Are these not human beigns who deserve every bit as much consideration as your sexually-orientatred minorities?

That's actually a repulsive comment even by your low standards...

It isn't even relevant to the thread. Like it or not, Pol3, in Poland we respect people's human rights.

News / President-Elect of Poland, Duda, rescues Eucharist [45]

Nope. It's generally proved by how you treat your fellow humans and other animals (particularly the weakest and most flawed among us) as well as how we interact with society and the planet we live on.

Indeed. A good friend who's a priest had to burn the hoover bag after someone threw up at the altar and it went everywhere - apparently you're supposed to burn the carpet in theory. I think you can also bury it in clean earth, or is that just Anglican? I quite like the way the NeoCatetchumenate people (very big in Warsaw now) do it with real bread. I tend to think that only the wafers/wine you consume or are reserved for consumption or adoration contain the real presence, crumbs and wafer that fall on the floor don't quite count as long as they're dealt with respectfully.

I've also never understood the controversy in Poland about receiving in the hand - no problem elsewhere in the RCC, at least not in England nowadays.

With the Dud it was just a common sense gesture that the media picked up on because certain sections of the public might impute something about it...

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

Are there many Brits that live in Poland now, compared to Poles in England?
I heard that Polands economy has been getting better, so Im guessing less people would want to leave.

Poland is a beautiful county ...Wasz kraj jest piekny!

Yes, a very nice place. There are a few thousand. Hard to calculate an exact figure because the census isn't thorough, a lot of people from EU states don't feel the need to register and a lot of the British passport holders in PL identify as Poles. Since the Polish post-2004 influx into the UK there have been a lot of marriages though, and people returning to PL with their new husband or wife.

Yet some in this thread say the Brits hate the Poles - I just don't see this in real life.

Law / Legal Advice of how to close a company owned in Poland [13]

I already have accountant, will he be able to close the company

A real accountant or just a book keeper (księgowa)? An accountant specialising in small firms should be able to deal with registration/deregistration issues of limited companies, however if you just use a księgowa, in Poland you would normally need to go to a lawyer for that sort of thing. Some might be able to do it, however most do not get involved with more complex tasks for limited companies.

It's very simple to do really - but if you don't speak Polish you will need a lawyer to prepare the paperwork.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

For example, the official who recently decided that the child of a Polish woman cannot have a Polish passport because the child is the daughter of two married women was not elected by anybody

They're going to clear up in compensation because of that, and I can see case after case in Strasbourg.

I'm not a guest here: I have the legal right to be here, just as same-sex couple have the legal right to have their human and civil rights respected here.

Worth mentioning that the OP in this thread isn't a Polish citizen or even an EU one at all! That's by the by though - Polish law respects the human rights of all who are there, LGBT or not, Black, white, Xian, Jewish, Muslim etc - human rights are absolute and not negotiable.

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

No it's not the same because a Polish person would have to make that statment for it to be the same which you are not.

Well, I only live in one country. Called Poland. Been there? Zapraszam!

a Polish citizen now are you

Well actually, a bit of good news recently...

In any case, we in Poland, and the folks in Britain have an absolute right to live in each others' state anyway. And Poles in Britain and Brits in Poland is a good thing that works very, very well - and yes I now know from direct experience that citizenship is given out in both directions once you meet a few very simple criteria :-)

Anyway, to cut through all the negativity and to get back on topic (though the thread title is pretty awful) here's a link to something positive:

he Anglo Polish Society originated as an association set up by the poet Thomas Campbell and his friends to offer sympathy and support to Polish insurgents following an uprising in 1832 to gain freedom. It was brutally put down by the Russians and some of the insurgents found refuge in England.
After the Second World War, the Anglo Polish Society was revived as a regional independent association - The Anglo Polish Society Bristol and the South West became the focal point in the life of the Polish Community.

News / President-Elect of Poland, Duda, rescues Eucharist [45]

We can only hope that President-Elect Duda will be as quick to lunge to the ground in order to prevent public funds being spent on private projects as he was to stop a wafer remaining on the ground.

Indeed. Vanity/political-mischief making projects like that building only really work if there's the substance behind those who were wanted and use it. Here there isn't. The Dud and his backers don't have the credibility and the PiSuarzy made Poland an object of ridicule during their short time in office - this building will be a testament to that ridicule.

The right-wing media making a meal of the Dud picking a wafer up just underlines that.

**** me! Miserable? Poles invented the word.

But Poles are just ignorant when they set their mind to it.

Yes - the kings of miserable.

I used to think Yorkshiremen were dour

We may have a chip on our shoulders, but at least it's a proper bloody chip wi' mushy peas.

decent, patriotic, family-minded

Precisely the people who support equal marriage, i.e. the majority...

The project to cleanse Poland

That's so funny.

Nice to see that you advocate removing ordinary people from their jobs for the sake of political patronage.

Well, some people are used to that sort of thing, aren't they...

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

People like true stories...

In life nobody just gets a medal or Oscar or Noibel Prize and few if any laws just get passed without plenty of behind-the-scenes haggling, deal-making, palm greasing, etc. Judges also know which side their bread is buttered on.

Codswallop - if they'd voted the other way, you'd have been praising them.

And in Poland, the constitutional framework for full equality already exists...

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Public opinion evolved, Pol3, despite massive lobbying by the bigots - who were so rabid that they did themselves no favours in the end. And lost dismally. Rather like your coarse rants here and the effect they have on a disinterested reader...

People can and do make their own mind up - and the tide is turning in Poland. LGBT people are no longer in hiding, and the non-LGBT majority can see that they are perfectly normal people and form their own impressions.

Law / Opening English and Business College in Poland [19]

Are the owners and backers from Ireland or elsewhere?

This does make a difference.

Also what does the 15 years experience in education delivery involve? And is it in Ireland or elsewhere - that's significant.

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

Sure I would like it and who sponsored that research if you can.

There have been a few surveys. CBOS did one in Poland, the UK government did one (last month I think) in the UK.

I suppose there's the silent majority and those who shout loudly - in the UK it's the UKippers and their sort.

Off-Topic / Polonophobe Alert: JIGGLE (@JIGGLEIN on Twitter) [12]

What they are doing in London? Invitation from edl or bnp?

They live there.

Fools, but their numbers are few.

Very true about all racists, xenophobes, general haters, flag wavers and extreme conservatives.

I like your writing style - almost identical to a guy that used to post here called Ironside.
