News / Bankruptcies in Poland up by 15% [4]

418 is not possible, there is something wrong with that number.

What's the total number of companies in Poland and in Germany? Compare those two and then see if the number of insolvencies make sense.

News / Officials in Poland are hailing an upcoming visit by Donald Trump [720]

The United States last year spent 3.6% of its GDP on defense

The USA wastes 3.6% of its GDP on the military because the country is a superpower and as such has global ambitions. America doesn't spend 3.6% GDP exclusively on NATO though, so a direct comparison with other NATO members is a bit like apples and oranges.

Poland can go on without those 'subsidies'.

Oh, I'm sure Poland can. The question is, how the future for the country would look like in that case. Remember that once you leave the EU, you also lose (duty) free access to its markets. Five of Poland's top six trading partners are EU members (I count the UK as a non member now), so leaving might not be such a good idea after all.

fulfilled their obligations to us

Trump is talking BS. There are NO obligations to the US. The NATO members agreed to increase military expenditures to 2% of their GDP by 2024. No more, no less. If they don't reach that goal - sue them... ;)

"They have an obligation to make payments.

No, they don't. At least not the 2% GDP. The only obligation the member states have is to shell out the agreed upon cash for the NATO budget. The USA pays 22%, Germany pays 15% - exactly what they are supposed to pay.

considering how inefficient Germany spends money on its military.

The deliberate weakness of the German military is based on political decisions made in Berlin. If they want, they can change that rather quickly within a few months. Just reintroduce the draft, fire the current personnel except for the real achievers, withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty and build a bunch of nukes. The latter would take the Germans maybe a year or two including delivery systems. Might scare their neighbors a "little", but isn't that what Orange 45 wants?

scrap the treaty on German reunification which reaffirmed restrictions on its military and especially on offensive capabilities

Good point!

Merkel has said that Europe must "take our fate into our own hands"

She said that before the G-20 already.

Merkel, cleverly spends less than half she's supposed to on defense

The non-binding agreement says that NATO members should reach 2% GDP by 2024. It's 2017 now and the Germans are on their way. The Europeans will certainly not like it because once Germany reaches the targeted military expenditure, it will have an uncomfortably large military again. Welcome back to pre WW2. Bannon's wet dream.

Thats if Poland doesn't pull a PoLExit. the EU will be doomed then!

Poland is the largest net recipient of subsidies. The EU is doomed if Poland leaves? Sure...

The Liberal Left protesters (just like the ones in the U.S.A.) were out spewing their hate and bitterness.

You are missing some crucial background information when it comes to the anarchists in Hamburg and Berlin. These thugs have been battling the police every May 1st since the early 1980's. They were/ are squatting, they are burning cars and are looting ever since. Unfortunately for the police, German judges are far too soft. They can arrest these criminals, and it takes half a day before they are released again.

German cops generally don't shoot to kill like in the US. They are trained to disable an attacker by aiming at the legs first. Only if an attacker tries to use lethal force himself, will the cops blow off his head. This strategy is actually quite successful with far less fatalities than in America.

Yet where were the protesters or demonstrators in warsaw? Basically none

Of course not. They were all PiS party members - "invited" to Warsaw to cheer Trump. Just like in the olden days - only the flags they had to wave were different.

Furthermore stats are b.s.

We could discuss all night long what Poles think about Trump or not. I for one strongly believe that most of them are not buying his BS simply because Polish people are far too intelligent for that. It's a minority that falls for the nationalistic crap - just like in the USA or the U.K.. If your contacts in Poland are part of that crowd, well, then you maybe hang out with the wrong people. Or it is simple standard deviation... ;)

if they're happy trump came to poland

Happy maybe, but for a different reason. Not because they love Trump so much, but because they are patriots who love to see Poland presented as an important "regional power" in the world news. Trump was stroking the Polish ego; that was pretty obvious.

There is no such poll which specifically asked if polish residents 'support' trump

Yes, that was the poll I was talking about. As you said, it asked people about their confidence in Trump's ability to "do the right thing regarding world affairs". Only 23% of Poles had confidence in Trump. Whether you interprete the 23% as agreeing with Trump's ideology (or views) or not is completely up to you. For me it is a clear sign that only a minority of Poles would follow the destructive nationalistic and isolationist path that the Trump administration is on.

That many Poles were happy about Trump's visit wasn't really the question, but I believe it.

What do you mean? Poles do not vote in American elections, well not that many. That sentence doesn't make any sense

What do you think "support Trump" means? 23% of Poles support Trump's ideology. His ideas. His BS. SAD!

Fake news like the good ole soviet days.

The fake crowds were reported by wyborcza.pl amongst others. You still have the good ole Soviet days in Poland?

The US is getting scared of the Franco-German axis

The EU is preparing a free trade deal with the Japanese. Let's see how that one will work for Trump. I'm sure his minions will wake up one day and realize that the jobs that could've gone to America are ending up in the European Union, Japan and China. Well, at least they'll have their opiates...

Bless their hearts to show such support

Only 23% of Poles support Trump (hey, that's even less than in the US...). Fake crowds just like in the good old commie days. LOL!

don't understand it's a good thing.

We were talking about Trump bringing regular American jobs to Poland. Won't happen.

Better give that one some thought.

Were the Soviet troops good for the Polish economy as well? You'll have to take the history of the country into account, and also the relative proximity to Russia. I doubt that they will let any significant number of American troops into Poland. Despite: most GI's stay in the barracks and buy PX anyway. They don't spend too much money outside.

...that the head of the country cares for his country with the highest priority.

That wasn't the point, Wulkan. Every head of state does that. Trump is currently trying to push corporations into investing in the US first and also to bring back jobs from abroad. He has no intention to export American jobs to Poland.

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

racist views seems to be declining with globalization

It should be mandatory to travel abroad for 6 months straight once in your lifetime. Works wonders.

You can't totally ever eliminate racism

Of course not. There will always be a Neanderthal who hates all other cavemen because they smell differently.

News / MORE ANTI-POLISH SENTIMENT IN GERMANY [280]

Is this kind of thinking still present there?

Not unheard of, but quite uncommon. Contrary to what is often claimed here, Poles are actually viewed quite positively in the western parts of Germany and Berlin. Further east: not so much. Cross border crime (mostly break-ins and car theft) in the years following the fall of the Wall gave Poles a really bad reputation over there.
