There was one on the tram this morning. Although she was more of a female than a lady.

Personally I love the drinking culture in Poland compared to the UK.

While I was walking to the tram stop this morning, I saw a drunk man pissing against a wall right outside a primary school. Mothers and kids were walking past him but he didn't give a fcuk.

The pictures at dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2040260/Binge-drinking-Shaming-images-turned-Britain-laughing-stock.html show Cardiff by night and were taken over a five-year period by Polish photographer Maciej Dakowicz. Somehow he managed in five years to take photos of drunk people out on a Saturday night. Shock, horror: some people drink and get drunk. But it seems that dear Maciej wished to show the worst of the place which has been nice enough to host him: "'The reaction [of the people who attended his exhibition in France] was very positive,' says Dakowicz. 'The audience was laughing. They were making fun of British people.'"

What a charming gentleman.

And apparently nobody in Bialystok ever gets drunk and appears in public: "Dakowicz admits that he would be unable to produce images like this in his home town of Bialystok in Poland."

Just any nice small cheap place for food.

Vega just off Solidarnosci (behind Kino Femina) has fairly cheap and usually excellent food.

Subway do a Sub of the day for 7zl (13zl for the 30-cm version) and a breakfast Sub for 3.90, so you can certainly get three meals a day from Subway for under 600zl per month.

a colleague of my husbands just got caught for drinking and riding a bike.

I know a guy who got six months in prison for riding his bike while drunk (he was riding a bike because he had lost his driving licence for driving while drunk).

Ban and a fine are minimum. Jail is possible. If you are more than double the limit, you can also have your car seized.

Your national license will be taken from you and sent to your embassy so it can be sent home and cancelled.

Refusal to take a test is a crime. If you are really drunk, they can and will legally force you to take a blood test (the justification is that they need to know what medical treatment you need).

One ‘hour’ in the Polish education system is actually 45 minutes. Fifteen minutes is usually more than enough time to prepare for a 45-minute less. Thirty minutes is certainly more than enough to prepare for a 90-minute lesson. Maths really is not your strong suit, but then do you actually have any strengths at all? It certainly seems not from your performance here.

And the law is that citizens of nations where Poles are permitted to run one-person companies are allowed to operate dzielnosc gospodarcza and citizens of countries where Poles are not permitted to are not allowed to. But do feel very free to ignore this fact and just keep banging on about utter bollocks. This is your best line of drivel since you claimed that B&Bs in London cost double the price at which a room in a four-star hotel can be had!

The right to do business in such form most certainly is limited to Poles and certain foreigners (e.g. US citizens can run that form of business but Canadians can not). And given that operating any other type of business will mean significantly higher start-up costs and running costs, the disadvantage which one can be put at in comparison to persons who can run a dzielnosc gospodarcza is enough to de facto prevent one from doing business on a certain scale in certain industries.

You really should stick to giving advice about things which you have a vague clue about.

In Poland only people from certain countries can operate as a dzielnosc gospodarcza and for some purposes running any other kind of business activity is not economically viable (as all of your competitors are running as dzielnosc gospodarcza).

Now we're seeing exactly why it is that flats are so far out of the range that you can afford: you simply do not work hard enough. Sorry to tell you this Mark, sorry, I mean Milky, but 34 hours per week is slightly less than most people work.

I also love your maths skills. If lessons are 50zl each and a person wants an extra 4000zl per month in income, they do not actually need to work 25 lessons per week in order to earn that much. So perhaps the problem is not only that you're too lazy to be able to buy a flat, perhaps it is that you are too lazy and too stupid?

I suggest that the witness is referring to the 'Hard Rock Cafe' chain, m'lud. The are dining establishments owned by a tribe of what one used to refer to as redskins and are themed memorabilia from popular beat 'combos' and the like.

Pretty close to 100%. In the current market conditions, some sectors will see falling prices (although I think that 'dive' would be too strong a word), others will see stable prices and others will see increasing prices: it all depends exactly what we're talking about and exactly where it is.

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to find an engineering job in that area without completely fluent polish?

The question is what you can offer a potential employer that a Polish candidate can not offer and whether that plus will outweigh the rather large minus of you not being able to communicate with the majority of the Polish staff at the company. In other words, it is going to be very very difficult.

I thought maybe I was misunderstanding some cultural aspect of the case!

Certainly doesn't sound like it to me. Sounds to me like the mother has a problem with alcohol and the father is reacting appropriately (although the mother might want to consider making sure the child can not be taken out of the UK, I really would not fancy her chances of getting the kid back from Iraq if the father takes him there).
