Work / What qualifications are required to teach English in Poland? Completed 2 week TEFL course [53]

Poland does not require that you have knowledge of the target language (Polish), however, as well as a teaching certificate e.g. CELTA, it would greatly help if you have a University degree (some schools will not even speak to you unless you have that). If your degree is in a related field all the better. Some schools require previous experience of teaching, others do not.

Study / How to get into a Polish university? [7]

Yes, you are right. Now I have thought about it I do see plenty of these 'liceum schools offering nauke bez oplat' in Krakow. Next time I'm in Krakow, I'll go in enquire about this. It would be interesting to see where they get their money from - I expect its from the EU.

Life / Where Can I Buy Mothballs in Poland? [5]

I had the same trouble with moths for years. They ate my best things in the wardrobe and even made a home in my best rug on the floor. All had to be thrown away and everything fumigated. I used bleach to clean everywhere in the wardrobes. My advice is to go to a 'sklep zielarski' (herbal shop) where they sell alternative products. The best product I found is vanilla sticks - they are expensive. You cut them up into little pieces and leave the pieces in a small container. You can add some orange/lemon peel - straight from the orange. Some qualified herbal person will be able to advise you. The best thing is that these products do not smell.

I have seen the old-fashioned moth balls sold in Castorama and similar shops. That's where I used to buy them about 2-3 years ago. Now I have my herbal remedies and no moths.

Free adult high school is only up to the age of Matura i.e. 18. You have to have excellent Matura exams to get into a Uni. Remember too that they are cutting available places at Unis. Do your research thoroughly first.

Work / Jobs in the field of electronics in Poland? I have an engineering degree. [14]

It all depends on what level of education, your ability to speak different languages and your experience. Look on job portals and send your CV to as many firms as you can. If you are from within the EU it will be easier, from outside they have to obtain a working permit, visa and other documentation.

Travel / How available is internet/wifi in Poland? [24]

Yes he can. I have a registered pre-paid telephone. During last summer and the International Youth Week in Poland, all users of pre-paids had to register. It does not matter where you live, but your telephone number must be registered, otherwise the phone will not work.

Language / Caring/loving words in Polish? [90]

Problem is that 'mis' (teddy bear) is a masculine noun. If you are a female, you will have to find a feminine equivalent.

News / Only 37% of Poles read a book in 2017 [13]

I believe that adults are generally fearful of reading good literature, for fear that they will not understand what at least half of the words mean. They are too lazy to find out and use the most wonderful and expressive words.

Generally, and you can see and hear this on every street in every town or city, people are less and less likely to express themselves in the most exact manner. They end up repeating stock-phrases of terms they have already heard someone else say.

A well-educated person will always know the value of reading god literature.
People always want a return on something - what's in it for me?. Well, you might learn a new word, new expression, new experience...but what does that mean to an illiterate.

Law / Inheritance law in Poland - child's right to real estate [5]

I can confirm that a person who is related to the deceased (wife, child, parent) have rights to the estate even though they have been omitted from the will. Unless it can be proven that they have done something or acted in a way that prohibits them from inheriting. For example, a child kills his parents - in that case, the child or his descendants are not entitled to anything.

Work / Job offer in Poland and signing contract on first day of work? [11]

Make sure that you have your contract ready to sign and your working visa before you give notice to your old job. If there is a problem with your visa, you may not get it...and then you will be stuck.

It is usual to sign the contract on your first day or even later as long as you are sure that you have all the other paperwork.

Do not give up your job until you have your work permit and visa.

Law / Insure your British car in Poland for a full year. [15]

There are various solutions to your problem.
1. Let your girlfriend buy the car (under her name), then you can insure it in her name and add yourself as a named driver. But, before you do that, find out how much the insurance/car examination and other costs will be for the whole thing. Here, you can pay for the car as long as she is the registered keeper.

2. Hire a car from a reputable dealer for the duration of your stay.

Work / Fraudulent job situation Poland [15]

I think the most hours you can work is 16 per week. If you have a contract that specifies 30 or 40, then the employer can go to the authorities (whether he has paid you or not) and say that you have been working full time. You will then have your student visa revoked and will be sent back home. Your employer knows this- and that is whey there is absolutely nothing you can do, unless you want to get yourself into trouble.

Law / I bet that many of you forgot to register in the Poland's municipality office [13]

If only things were that simple. Simply put:
I do not have a Polish dowod osobisty, PESEL or passport. I was born in Krakow but have lived in England since 1969.
In 2003 I had 2 processes/cases go through the Country Court in Krakow (Sad Regionowy) and we were preparing for further processes. I then had to find my ex-husband (divorced in 1985 from him) to ask him if he would be willing to sign some papers. Poland joined the EU so I left everything. Recently I went back to Urzad and was told that I have to apply for 'confirmation of my (Polish) nationality'. I am currently gathering all supporting evidence.I am doing it all this year before Brexit becomes final.

So life isn't as simple as one might think.

Life / Advice needed on Dental implant in Poland [119]

The best person to give advice on implants or extractions and implants is a well-qualified dentist.
I can count on the fingers of one hand the best implantologists in Poland. Go for someone who knows what they are doing.
Recently, I had an implant fitted in Krakow after x-rays, consultations, examinations, regular checks - estimate cost to be 7K pln.

Study / Need advice with admission to the University of Warsaw!! Please help!! [26]

Another thing to consider is that the Law degree course will teach you about Polish Law and not the Law applicable in any other country. You need to check up on that however.

The other thing is that unless you have extremely good connections in the field of Law in Poland (Ziobro is your personal friend)the chances of getting work after that are less than zero. Chances of finding work in the US in the field of law after completing your degree in Poland are minimal to say the least.
