Real Estate / Poland: Swiss Franc loans come back to bite [37]

Keeping emotions aside, banks are not charities. They will eat you alive if you try to rip them off, and they have the power to do so because they are protected by several layers of law and have the money to fuel their legal battles.

That being said, so many laws would have to be broken for this to happen (i.e. for banks to charge exchange rate at time of mortgage signing). No single institution in the gov of Poland has the power to force banks to accept this. Not even the supreme court of Poland can force banks to accept this because there are additional layers of EU and even international law protecting banks as well.

However, PiS have been using this false promise as a part of their election campaign, which is something they already know they can't do. They are taking advantage of people's ignorance and desperation.

The comparison with automobiles is illogical. When you sign up for a loan in a currency that you don't earn, you are accepting the risk associated with changes in the exchange rate - and signing a paper that says you are aware of this risk and accept it. Unlike a broken automobile (new cars have a warranty don't they?) the change in exchange rate is not a fault in the product or service being sold, it is an integral part of the actual product in this case - which is a foreign currency loan.

News / PO government forcing Polish companies abroad [13]

I agree with what jon357 said. As a business owner I am nervous about PiS being in charge. However, much remains to be seen over the next few months.

News / PKP buys Alstrom Pendolino trains for € 665 million [60]

Agree with kpc21 about people seeing cars as a status symbol. This is indeed a problem because many people want to drive their own cars regardless of whether it makes sense or not. For me it never makes sense to drive from Warsaw to Krakow or Szczecin for a meeting and back. I feel both safer and more comfortable if I take a train or even a bus.

News / PO government forcing Polish companies abroad [13]

I own a Polish company and in some aspects (not in all aspects) it makes sense to move elsewhere and continue to offer services and products in Poland. Let's see how things develop over the next few months. This is not news. I am happy to see people talking about it. Maybe they will do something.

News / 23 Shale Wells Drilled This Year Alone in Poland - 41 More to Go... [50]

Teargas, I don't remember. The "coal lobby" is knee and elbow deep into scandals regularly so I wouldn't be surprised. They follow a "modus operandi" not too different from modern organized crime.

Further on what you said on energy security, Poland should increase investments and efforts towards renewable energy and (perhaps) move forward with nuclear energy as soon as possible.

Anything that comes from coal (or any other fossil fuel) is not renewable energy if that is what you are asking. It is replacing one poisonous addiction with another poisonous addiction. It is like burning refined gasoline instead of burning crude oil. While one is less harmful at the location of consumption (let's not get into production site), they are both fossil fuels (not renewable) and neither one is CO2 neutral.

Could not edit, but wanted to add:

Actually, Poland's coal deposits are dwindling and the cost of extraction of Polish coal is higher than Russian coal for example- which happens to have higher calorific value on average, meaning more energy.

The cost is higher specifically because deposits are running out and they have to dig deeper and deeper to extract more coal. Why do you think Polish coal mining companies are crying? Besides the rampant corruption, they are trying to survive on selling a product that costs them more to offer than it does to import from Russia - customs and transportation costs included.

Poland is still doing a fantastic job on energy diversification.

Can't disagree, although I feel more could be done. However, since I sell and service pumps for waste to energy plants (among other things), I can say a lot is being invested into renewable energy right now, partly from Polish gov and partly from EU funding. I can name over 15 large investments ongoing right now.

The biggest enemy of renewable energy and energy independence in Poland is what I call the "coal lobby".

Law / Ways of getting Permanent residency in Poland [101]

If I'm living in poland illegally on schengen visa can possible to get PR ? Plz reply

No way to go from illegal stay to PR in a single step.

There might be certain grounds to apply for asylum or tolerated stay but I don't know your case.

If you are married to a Polish citizen (and your marriage is registered in Poland) you might be able to get a temporary residence permit if you have been married for longer than three years and/or you have children together. If the marriage doesn't meet any of these two conditions then it is easy to dismiss as a marriage of convenience.

News / Kopacz wants PO to hire more professional PiS-bashing haters [66]

With you command of written Polish

And you are very familiar with my command of written Polish?

Anyway, BS of the first order, typical of PiS, just adds up to the massive piles of their paranoid hallucinations.

Life / Poland's Alior Bank reviews / ING / Millenium [26]

I use Alior for business (since 2012) and ING for personal banking (since 2011).

Alior has some English speaking staff catering to business customers in some branches. Their web interface is also in English & Polish. However, The fees are adding up. I can't complain about their service otherwise.

ING has been good too - no complaints. Also, English & Polish web interface. But not many English speaking staff.

I also previously used Raiffeisen & PKO for business - and today I avoid both like death. Had horrible experiences with both banks.

Law / 'Two years of continuously stay in Poland prior application' - Interpretation of clause in Permanent Residence [13]

Here is a link that you can look at. Many more official sites state the same thing.

mazowieckie.pl/en/for-foreigners-1/residence/permanent-residence-pe/522,What-do-I-need-to-know.html

Quote from the above site: "Your stay on Polish territory is considered uninterrupted if none of the breaks in it were longer than 6 months and all the breaks do not exceed a total of 10 months in the periods constituting a basis for granting a permanent residence permit".

So even if you didn't have a stamp and even if you were not even in Poland for this 6 weeks it does not change anything.

Here is a link to the same information in Polish:

Love / Does anyone know of a good marriage counsellor/therapist in Poznan or Wroclaw area? [4]

Visit this website: pocieszka.pl/index.php
(Polish Institute of Integrative Psychotherapy - a method that deals with everything you mentioned and more).

Scroll to the bottom till you see a mobile telephone number (kom.) Call this number and ask to speak to Prof. Andrzej Nehrebecki (you can see his profile here in Polish

pocieszka.pl/index.php?page=Andrzej&menu=onas&item=zesp_inst)

He speaks English, and he should be able to refer you to an English speaking therapist in Wroclaw. The institute itself is based in Krakow but they have graduates all over Poland.

Typical therapist (English speaking) charges PLN 120 per hour in Poland.

Law / Polish Visa, Work Permit, Residency for Spouse of Polish Citizen [69]

My future husband is from Morocco

If you are married by then, and your marriage is registered in Poland, then it should be straightforward.

First he needs apply for a Schengen visa, which shouldn't be a problem and will be free for spouse of Polish citizen. It would be very helpful if you could be with him when he goes to apply. You have to remember that almost by default authorities assume that this is a marriage of convenience, therefore you being present helps alleviate their suspicions.

Second, once he is in Poland, you need to register him as a resident at your address (zameldowania) for which you need either proof of ownership or rental contract. You will take proof of address registration, together with your marriage certificate (the Polish one) and copies of his passport (every page except blank visa pages) and your ID (dowód osobisty), photos and filled application forms, plus birth certificates of your children if you have any, and apply with these documents for his residence permit. Unless there is something wrong with your application, he will receive a temporary residence permit valid for 3 years.

Life / Reaction regarding Pakistanis respected in Poland [54]

Immediately before moving to Poland I lived in Doha, Dubai and Muscat for 12 years combined. So I too have lived in cities with 300,000 Pakistanis or more. I even know a few words in Urdu.

How many Pakistanis in the places I mentioned rely on state welfare? They were generally very hard workers, doing jobs from driving trucks and heavy equipment to top end engineering consulting jobs. Again, there are always exceptions and there are bad people from every nationality with no exception. And Pakistanis coming to Poland are no exception.

Life / Reaction regarding Pakistanis respected in Poland [54]

I own and run a business that offers made-to-order B2B products and services in Poland, and it is not an online business, so in short I know a lot of people, plus over 1000 that follow me on LinkedIn.

In terms of Pakistanis, I know a few as well, and every one of them is in either engineering or IT, and they are all tax paying and productive individuals. I am sure there are exceptions, I just don't know any of them.

In general, there is no established negative (or otherwise) stereotype of Pakistanis in Poland, despite the best efforts of some people to state otherwise.

Life / Vandalism on cars in Poland [64]

Make a written complaint (in Polish, and in the correct format) to the police and send a copy to the prosecutor

Totally agree. If they don't reply or take action within 30 days then upgrade the issue to the next prosecutor up the chain...

Anyway I'll do exactly as Jon said, let's see what the prosecutor says.

Have you heard back from the prosecutor?

Life / Reaction regarding Pakistanis respected in Poland [54]

Dont reduce intentionously my text to a driver experience.

You have reduced an entire country to a driver experience actually.

Answering the actual topic, for the most part, a Pakistani in Poland is like any other foreigner in Poland. Most Poles that have not travelled have never interacted with anyone from Pakistan before so there might some shy curiosity but that's all. There is no reason why a Pakistani investor cannot successfully start a business in Poland.
