Love / India guy Polish girl [57]

I think what you meant is that you couldnt get a British woman to date you, which isn't any wonder, we're not exactly attracted to 3rd world immigrants - this isnt arrogance, its a fact.

I used to know a Polish woman who quite liked foreigners (even darker-skinned ones) but when I asked her what she thought of Indians, she replied "oh, they're so short and effeminate" :D

polish do cheap job in uk.......

where is this balkan greek bastard and king polkan bastard and all other racist bastard

hahahah so king polka is not even pole, he is a balkan means cheap greek

lmao! Gets banned... re-registers with a username he clearly got from me, after I told him what I think of him... gets banned again. Loser!

Then again, maybe I should be a little flattered - imitation is the highest form of flattery, after all. lol :)

Food / Traditional Polish meal for my Polish boyfriend in the US? [71]

Take Bigos for example. Using preserved cabbage (an ingredient that should never be preserved) and pork. This meal would taste and does taste a thousands times better using fresh cabbage

Strangely enough, it doesn't.

Many recipes state that both fresh cabbage and sauerkraut should be used, but I only use the latter in mine.

I have a several secret ingredients in my recipe (I would bet a month's wages that I'm the only person in the world which uses at least one of them in Bigos lol), but just like every Bigos chef would claim, my recipe is of course the best in the world :)

Why do you in GB don't eat salads at all?

What on earth gives you that idea? Believe it or not, some of us even chop our salads properly over here.

Speaking of salads, I'd do anything for one of those Pizza Express Caesar salads right now :D

what is the difference between them...?

One is from 1956 and is falling to pieces, one has lots of nice modern photos in, and the other one has a recipe for Kluski Śląskie in, which the first two don't, lol :D

lol one eats is sparingly and that is the secret:)

Best kept a secret if you ask me! :D

Life / Why Aren't The Shops in Poland Open on Sundays? [82]

Not just special but extra special because they are from Wroclaw.

lol we have those in Tesco :)

It's like Eccles cakes - like any other cake, but somehow unique :D

I just got a text from a mate who'd been complaining about shops being closed: he's in a brothel where they've sold him beer & cigarettes and made him a sandwich!

Ugh! If I were to ever use a brothel (extremely unlikely), I can guarantee that there's NO WAY I would ever let anyone who works there make me a sandwich!!! :0 lol

Life / WHY DO POLES USE ENGLISH WORDS IN CONVERSATION? [396]

It could be worse... my mum goes to the "chipszopa", buys things cheaper
"w pakiszopach", or goes "do Morrisona" for some "mięso beefowe".

I am not joking, either :D

Food / Why is it that some Polish people refuse to eat anything that is not Polish? [120]

It seems pretty overpriced if you consider that you can get good-quality authentic Indian food for about £6 (30 PLN) in most major UK cities, including London. But the market is obviously much bigger over here, so prices are clearly going to be lower. And the only way that Asian food is going to become as cheap in PL is if an equivalent percentage of Asians move in - and I'm not sure that most Poles would want such a deal :) Unless I was on a date, there's no way I'd ever eat at any restaurant over here which costs £14 for a meal.

Poles like these acquired tastes. Look at lard with bread :)

bleeeuuugghhhh! That reminds me of the converation about tripe which we had in the pub last night :D

Language / What do you like in Polish language? [70]

Hmm...not all of them ;) ;) My wife's parents are definitely real Silesians and they don't use it.

They have the classic vowel changes too. For example, mosz zamiast masz and many more.

lol true, but it's like round here - everyone from outside the area thinks that everyone here speaks like Shaun Ryder, but it's just not true - but it doesn't mean they're not "local" :D

I have a Regional Polish cookbook, a modern Polish cookbook, and a 1956 Polish cookbook, but no-one's having them, lol :D

Don't know why I keep them, really... all the recipes I need are in my head :D

UK, Ireland / Ive been in the UK for 6 days to relocate and im going back to Poland. [281]

The country has indeed gone to the dogs ...being British is no longer part of being British.

That's because "being British" is "un-Islamic" these days, and this country is full of appeasers. But, like WB's fat people, that's another thread altogether :)

HOWEVER... it's not all bad.

Where I live is great. 30+ synagogues replace the 30+ mosques I was surrounded by where I lived not too long ago. Lots of pleasant leafy streets and nice parks nearby. "Multiculturalism" means English, Irish, Polish and Jewish, and I'm very happy with that. I've got the best neighbours I've had in years, it's safe, people don't go to Tesco dressed in their pyjamas, the best fish and chip shop in the world is only 5 minutes drive away, and it's less than four miles to my favourite UK city centre. If I really want to escape, we have the biggest and best airport outside London. Less than an hour to the Peak District, 2 hours to Snowdonia. And I pay about the same for my flat as a flat in Poland costs - the difference is, I have 7000 PLN left to live on after I've paid my rent :D

My car insurance has shot up though, but I blame scummy Lower Kersal for that :)

And someone thought that naming a restaurant/cafe "Milky Dream" was a good idea. But you can't have it all. lol :D

Feedback / Language used here - how come this forum is all in English? [78]

You only see it if you're not logged in.

They keep changing it, though.

Right now, it says "All about Poland. Polish News and More".

There never seems to be much "Polish News" on here, either... lol :)

Life / Things we enjoyed as kids in Poland [140]

standing 3 hours in line in freezing cold to buy a kilo of sugar, ahh memories, nothing better to do after 7 hours in school.

I remember standing in a queue with my grandad, who was trying to buy some bread. By the time we got to the front - two hours later - it was sold out! So much for "the good old days"!

"Donald"

We had that too when I was a kid :) Don't know if they still sell them, though.

I wouldn't buy them if we could - they would remind me of Tusk - ugh! lol

Does anyone remember when Polish towns used to be full of street sellers who sold some kind of red-coloured drink? When did all that stop, then?

We used to have the "penny bubbly" over here:

This was back in the days when shops used to have coin-operated sweet machines outside their premises... can you imagine how long those would stay on the wall these days?? lol

As it says on the homepage, it's "Poland for Tourists and Expats".

It's clearly not aimed at Polish speakers.

And it's an American site - most "Polish-Americans" can't even speak Polish anyway.

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

even Sc*users :0

Best not to tell that in Manc though.

This explains the little bit of self-imposed censorship above ;)

The one exception is Geordies (Newcastle for those of you who do not recognise the term) with whom I always get on well with.

Likewise. I think my "dividing line" must proceed directly East towards the North Sea once you get north of the Lake District haha :)

Life / What is the reason for POLISH jokes ? [486]

the sad truth is that Poles don't know how to laugh at themselves... they take everything too seriously and too personal - attack, argue and kill... just read this forum, lol....

This is one Polish attribute I have not developed, fortunately. Self-deprecating humour is me :) Which probably explains why I get on with people round here and on the "western" side of England.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say that there must be some kind of geographical "dividing line" for humour - I seem to be able to have a good laugh with Manc/North West people (even Sc*users :0 ), Brummies/yam yams, and even Bristolians (though, in the case of the latter, it probably helps that I'm trying extremely hard to keep a straight face, while listening to the ridiculous accent lol). But in the case of places to the "east" of this proposed dividing line (Yorkshire/Notts/South East etc) I simply don't get their humour whatsoever, and they don't seem to get mine either. Suits me, though :D

Travel / My friends advise me not to go to Warsaw because people are horrible there? [30]

I 100% agree

Me too, but I wouldn't recommend it as the first city to visit in Poland for the casual tourist.

A lot of what has been said about Warsaw applies to most capital cities. Unfortunately, a lot of people (often highly educated) think that they somehow become "better" than everyone else in their country simply because they are either from, or moved to, a capital city.

Unfortunately, this is the case in the UK as well. Much as I would love everyone to visit Manchester instead of London, I know it's not going to happen, but where Poland is concerned, this rule doesn't apply. But if you're going to visit several areas of Poland, it's an essential visit.

There's plenty to see and do. Just don't expect it to look or feel like Prague or Rome and you won't be too disappointed ;)

Travel / Weird and wonderful sights in Poland [30]

The Warsaw Old Town bell. It cracked on the way to the bell tower, so they just left it there.

364 years later, it's still there.

Yet everyone claims that Poles are thieves. It wouldn't have lasted five minutes in Liverpool! :D

Love / POLISH WOMEN THE MOST SEXUALLY ACTIVE IN EUROPE...! [54]

I think it depends on how much money he's got to spend :D

Southern, what kind polish woman you tend to go for?

See above. There are plenty of names for southern's "girlfriends" - one begins with "P" and ends in "E" :D

UK, Ireland / Polish families in Greater Manchester...A project about you! Please help! [4]

As I said before...

I want my PhD project to reflect what the Polish community has to say!

Concentrating only on families who arrived within the last six years doesn't exactly
equal "the Polish community", it represents a proportion of it, and not the majority of it, therefore I was right to point out that her research would not be truly representative.

A Google search also shows that there is a journalist by the same name working for BBC Leeds. Coincidence? Maybe. But it wouldn't be the first time a journalist has tried to get a message board to do his/her work for them, either. In which case, "lazy journalism" is indeed a possibility.

By excluding the majority of the Polish population, it won't exactly represent a wide range of opinions. But then, I'm sure you have an agenda or two.

I look forward to reading the article which will inevitably claim to describe "the Polish way of life in the UK", knowing that it won't reflect my experience at all.

This all sounds like lazy journalism rather than a "PhD student" to me.

History / Endecja - State Sponsored Anti Semitism 1935 - 1939. [138]

It takes quite a bit of reading to understand the issues involved and a guy such as MG has no chance to grasp the basics of it.

His command of English would bring shame upon many native users of English, so I'm sure he's perfectly capable of understanding the issues involved.

Love / How easy is it to pick up a girl from a club/bar in Warsaw ? [65]

There are over 19 million Polish girls in PL, and everyone of them are different

indeed. Many are under-age, and many are coffin-dodging :D

Gosh...so many polish girls...so little time

"19 million Polish girls" is not the same as "19 million Polish females"... unless you are some perv who likes shagging children or pensioners!

Which train in Poland am I less likely to get shanked on?

pmsl :)

"Shanked" is what happens in London (usually by an "aspiring rapper" you've allegedly "disrespected").

In Poland, it's a handkerchief full of ether you have to watch out for :D

Life / Do Polish People steal a lot? [330]

One of the reasons Jews are so unwelcome in Poland now is that there are many Poles hoping to inherit a house from their elderly relatives...that they ain,t gonna get if the decendants of the rightfull owners show up...!

<controversial>

It could be a good deal in the long run. Give them back what they are entitled to, and Poland gets the benefits of Jewish business acumen. It's probably the only way that Crow will ever see Warsaw become the capital of the Slavic world, to be fair. And, as I've said before, Poles aren't exactly world-beaters at business, and Jews... well.. are ;)

</controversial>

;)
