News / PiS to impose blanket retail tax in Poland [291]

Don't be silly, you old S.O.B (great that you've set a precedent for that term and great that a Mod has approved it - it fits you beautifully). As well you know, one party is trusted with the economy, other parties are unknown quantities and the clowns who are temporarily in office have an appalling record on the economy.

And of course they don't care about impoverishing retail workers (already so very poorly paid) since they don't want people to be affluent or content - since as I said, people who are affluent and content don't vote for extreme nationalistic political lepers like PiS.

News / PiS to impose blanket retail tax in Poland [291]

All those kids that did a lot of donkey work for PiS are now enjoying highly paid state jobs doing precisely nothing.

Basically more (and the ridiculous new retail tax which will cost people's jobs is part of this) PiS Soviet-style behaviour. It's all they actually know.

The sick thing is that their so-called 'economic programme' will just impoverish people who are already badly paid. That is of course exactly what people want - after all, people don't vote for fascist parties when they're happy, do they?

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

the morons who can't accept the fact that their hero was personally responsible for the deaths of a plane-load of people have their pathetic meeting

What do they actually do at those gatherings?

UK, Ireland / Do Polish People Litter their own country (just like they do in the UK)? [84]

There is garbage everywhere (in Warsaw)

Huge graffiti too - but yes, people do litter.

finding stuff farmers drop

They must think the fairies collect it. If they think at all.

They don't think about much at all unless it's for immediate personal satisfaction - I notice a lot of stuff dumped by farmers; especially building waste, just thrown in the forest.

News / PiS to impose blanket retail tax in Poland [291]

the Fourth Reich

???

To some extent that is true.

To every extent. Joining the single market is the best thing that has ever happened to Poland, who are by far the largest net beneficiary of infrastructure funding. The EU as a whole also provides a check on excesses by the regime.

hard to say though how this relates to the disastrous and unpopular proposal for retail tax that will cause prices to rise and jobs to be lost.

Still waiting for a source for that claim.

Still waiting, Po, still waiting...

aisles of glittery

In what way does that relate to the unpopular retail tax?

Krasinski street bridge

You mean the badly needed new bridge across the river fairly near ul. Krasinskiego? One would hope that letters from the "not in my back yard" residents of the area, including yourself certainly don't stop it. Nothing to do with the hugely unpopular and economically incompetent new retail tax though, a tax that will force up prices and lead to job losses.

Could we ask for the source of that particular factoid?

Still waiting...

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

You mean of course President Komorowski, someone far from hated and someone who might be expected to attend a war remembrance ceremony without tasteless heckling from PiS cult supporters.

The same bunch who also heckle funerals.

News / PiS to impose blanket retail tax in Poland [291]

You have no idea how many ordinary Poles,

A certain type of person, regardless of what country they are in, will always say that. It doesn't mean they are right; in fact they never are.

Yesterday it was Moscow, now it is Brussels

See above. On a level with the comments field in the Daily Mail.

the vast majrotiy who in general support Poland's EU membership

Not just the "vast majrotiy" (sic) but pretty well everyone has benefitted hugely from Poland choosing to be part of the single market.

Could we ask for the source of that particular factoid?

I doubt we'll get much of an answer, however the answer is obvious. It comes from his imagination, like so many other 'factoids' in this thread.

The fact (and it is a fact not a factoid) is that most people here oppose the new retail tax, the tax that will cause so much damage to an already ailing economy.

placard

Nothing vile about that; and very different from picketing a funeral and screaming at the grieving mourners - that's true Westboro Baptist Church stuff.

years of the PO hate industry's toxic rants

That insinuation - like so many you have made here in this thread - is a lie, plain and simple.

Classifieds / Warsaw Pub Quiz in English [9]

There's also an English language pub quiz at Legends Bar on ul. Emilii Plater - I think it's once a month on the first Friday.

News / PiS to impose blanket retail tax in Poland [291]

I think Poles will wake up faster than Russians have but it's no secret why the PiS stronghold is the more Russian influenced East.

Spot on, and in very much in their electoral interest that people remain poor. This tax will just add to that since retailers will recoup it in either prices, staff T&Cs or more likely both.

UK, Ireland / Transfer Money from UK to Poland [36]

Exchange rate and fee depends of volume you want to transfer but its much better than any bank.

Agreed 100%. I've used them often and they are good. Very quick too.

News / Is Kinga Duda of Poland the most beautiful first-daughter of the world? [50]

With those original colour eyebrows and bleached hair she would

I suspect that the handbag doesn't match the shoes, as it were...

I so have to buy this product. Every morning I can gaze at his radiant countenance

fineartamerica.com/products/president-andrzej-duda-with-a-tiger-maciej-mackiewicz-shower-curtain.html

Of course it's the inner beauty that really matters. I'm happy never having to peer inside.

Travel / Behavior of Polish travellers on Planes. [72]

only capitalist spoiled brat

In what sense is someone a "capitalist spoiled brat" if they pay a tenner more because they physically appreciate the extra legroom and insist in sitting in their assigned seat during takeoff (this is by the way a legal requirement so they can identify your body if the plane crashes)?

My guess is that poganin has never flown

Looks that way. Some of us do it between 9 and 12 times a month for work reasons. And if you fly without checked in luggage and have a driver waiting or a train ticket booked, you pay the tenner to be up at the front. On classier flights, if you either get a business class ticket (as I'm lucky enough to get) or you get upgraded then you do appreciate sitting in the seat that's specified on your boarding pass.

hey probably just drank and maybe sang some songs

Great, let them do that in the pub or the street. Not on a plane.

History / "Poland's Concentration Camp" ?? [570]

Pole is a Nazi sympathiser

As well you know, most weren't, though during the 30s there was no shortage at all of admirers of the far-right. Not so much the German model but closer to Dollfuss's Austro-fascism.

UK, Ireland / Daniel Pelka murder: Polish mother and stepfather face life sentences [96]

That was my old career and there just wasn't a problem involving a reticence to become engaged with Polish families. The only case I was ever involved with that was delicate was an elderly Polish/Ukrainian couple of extreme views (they weren't welcome in the local Polish Club) who were reticent to say the least to let their adult son go into respite care (he badly needed this) because the Unit Manager (a perfect gentleman) was a different colour to them.

There were certainly more recent migrants from Poland and elsewhere who needed serious intervention due to issues with illtreated children (alcohol was in every case a major factor) and this happened regardless of their origin and despite their protesting.

News / Attack on Poland's judicial independence [50]

and become rule unto themselves?

That's where clear parameters in the law are important - something that PiS wishes to subvert.

PiS proposition allow the public to control the prosecution through the elected goverment

Given that PiS don't want the public to control the government, but instead believe that they are right regardless of what anyone thinks renders that comment meaningless.

UK, Ireland / Daniel Pelka murder: Polish mother and stepfather face life sentences [96]

If you are in business and you speak to recruitment and managers on a regular basis you will understand it to be a huge problem.

I am and haven't seen a problem; whenever I've hired, it's been on merit - whichever candidate is best for the job. In social services they don't shy away from engagement with a family just because they came from Poland.

they thought it a risk to their own job if they reported concern because if unfounded they would be taken to court for racism against a minority

No. In this case there isn't any suggestion that the ethnicity of the family had any bearing - in fact (as the howls of protest within Poland show), children of recent Polish migrants often come into contact with Social Services.

It may or not have had a baring in this

It doesn't at all.

News / Attack on Poland's judicial independence [50]

prosecutors should not be independent

They should be completely independent.

The idea of an independent prosecution service (or for that matter an independent anything) is however alien to the PiS cult, as the excellent article shows.
