News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

That was a joke right?

you got it

Poland was an occupied country for decades with no investment...as for 30 years behind..I dont think so..have you seen rural parts of France? and the slums in Paris?

That's why Poland is 30 years behind. Have you seen the hospitals? The transportation system? The glorious roads? The lack of sulfur smell in the winter? The quality of food available?

It's catching up though. I think the countryside will be stuck back in time for a while though...

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

Its like asking if France is a 3rd world country...

They don't have Walmart, I think that answers the question.

But seriously, comparing Poland to France? Poland is about like France 30 years ago, except with horrible roads.

Food / Polish Beer Recipes [39]

Might want to beware, we home brewers are becoming more militant. I don't want to say firebombing campaign... but if grains keep going up in price...

Food / Polish Beer Recipes [39]

Brewing just to have beer is like buying a yacht so that you can eat fish. I'd rather experiment and have something fresh and exactly how I like it... That's the fun of brewing, getting it exactly down to what you enjoy, and trying new things that you could never get out of a store.

Love / Polish Girls vs Russian Girls [813]

Girls in Poland tend to have this simple "finish school-get married early-go to church-have kids" aim in life and if you're a guy with unique passions/ambitions they are hard to relate to on a deeper level.

Fact, you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. Fact, you might want to rethink the people you hang around with. Correction, you're probably in the right crowd as it is.

Life / Electronics in Poland - what kinds are popular? [20]

Do all you Americans think that the rest of the world is stuck in the middle ages!

Haha, I bet they'll start asking about high speed trains, dependable postal service, and a top notch health care system! hahaha... oh, wait a minute..

Law / Bring your business to Poland! [56]

You are being very analytical, considering mainly small companies. But why not open this discussion to medium-big companies?

Large companies go where they get the best govt. deal. Poland has cheap labor and is close to markets in Germany. That's a pretty big plus.

please name a country around poland that provide the same quality if service with better costs???

Universities in the Czech Republic and, to a lesser degree, Slovakia, aren't too bad. I've heard good things about Estonia too.

edit

I think Poland is a great place to invest depending on what your requirements are. Are you in service, manufacturing...Is it for the internal market? For export?

Is it the easiest place to make money? No. Can you make money? Absolutely.

Life / Do Polish People steal a lot? [330]

Fiat money made out of trust of repayment, it's evil, that's another thread though. The only problem is when you have the same amount of trust, and start playing with the money supply... you make everything more expensive, which drives up the cost of everything and makes the dollar that you earned and saved last week worth less today.

Come on guys they did cap Goldman Sachs London partners all 100 of them to only a £1million this year, poor sods didnt get their usual £50 Mills, WTF.

I'm talking about Bernanke and the inflation magic that he used when he magicked up a bunch of money. Kind of like the Zimbabweans did...

Munich LME and Pilsner LME, 5,6lbs each. You can also replace the Magnum hops with Lublin for a more Polish experience :)

Food / Polish Beer Recipes [39]

Polish pale lager is the same as czech pale lagers, the breweries websites have info on the particular hops and grains that are used.

Baltic Porter is notoriously difficult to pull off correctly, I did [homebrewtalk.com/f126/polonia-porter-baltic-porter-95173/] before Christmas, but used extract instead of grain and it came out quite tasty :) If you're using ale yeast, you need to cold ferment to keep the "fruitiness" in check. Lager yeast, just follow the recipe.

Life / Lack of Spacial Acuity in Poland [69]

In my experience, stopping for pedestrians is dangerous, because even if they do cross (often they just stop and stare at you or wave you on) other drivers just tear across the crossing, looking at you to see what's wrong with you for stopping.

I stop. It's the only way that it will change.

Law / Setting up small business in Poland? [191]

HI, I am an Indian national currently working in USA on J1. in past i have stayed in Poland on Student visa and now i wanna start up my bar or club business

You may want to contact some of the Indians who have restaurants here in Poland (search on here, there are a couple that post, Sarul Islam for instance), and see if what's feasible.

On a positive note, the internal market is growing...and things are slowly getting better. The skilled labor pool is growing.

On a negative note, the zloty will probably be pushed back up making Poland less attractive for foreign capital.

Law / Bring your business to Poland! [56]

I live in Wroclaw.

I have an sro in the Czech Republic (IT) with a turnover of less than 30m crowns a year, employee training was paid for during the first 3 years, also received hefty breaks on employee taxes for the first 2 years. Czechinvest helped out quite a bit in getting everything rolling. Taxes are straightforward, contract law is clear and easily enforceable, base corp tax rate is 20% and tax on dividends is 15%. Income tax is a flat 15%.

I've got an LTD in Cyprus, but it would be ridiculous to compare Cyprus to Poland (or anywhere else for that matter), so I'll leave that one.

I was also looking at starting a business in Slovakia, 19% flat tax and no tax on dividends. I've heard that SARIO is kind of like PAIiIZ in that unless you're coming with a dumptruck full of money, it's not worth getting involved.

As for Poland, I've got an Sp. z o.o. (aviation) and a second one on the way (maintenance).

How about you? What have your experiences been so far in Poland and abroad?

Law / Bring your business to Poland! [56]

I guess this forum is more populated by people that don't like Poland a lot, or have lots of restrictions

No, there are realists here. It's a nice forum because you get the good and the bad.

When you say everything is cheap, what are you comparing it to? What is everything? Labor costs are cheaper for unskilled and semi skilled labor. Skilled labor isn't all that cheap, and the resource pool is pretty shallow.

Poland is probably the best place in Europe to invest if you say, have a company in Germany that makes plastic bumpers and you want to build a new €5million factory to make them with cheap labor over here. It's probably one of the worst places in Europe to start a small enterprise as a foreigner.

Law / Bring your business to Poland! [56]

It depends on how much money you come with. If you want to set up a small enterprise, there are barely any benefits to speak of. If you want to set up a factory, it doesn't matter if you speak Polish or not.

Law / Bring your business to Poland! [56]

rent, labour taxes, people hiring, company taxes, energy, water, heating.

rent for commercial property isn't all that cheap, taxes are 19% plus the same again for capital gains and dividends, the cost to employ labor is fairly high, at about 20%, energy, water, and heating are just as expensive as our neighbors to the west. Most of the investment incentives begin at about the 20m zl level. Bureaucracy adds a large cost to doing business here (your attorneys will probably be busy).

As much as I like Poland, the availability of cheap labor (cheap zloty) is pretty much the only plus I can see right now.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

Eh, I think cyanide can be removed after 43 years, don't you? What kind of evidence of gassings? Anything that may have shown that could easily have been cleared up. They switched the gas off some time ago ;) ;)

That shouldn't even be commented on, it's based on faulty evidence.

In 1991, the Polish government repeated these tests to disprove Leuchter's findings, but they as well found no evidence of any gassings ever occurring.

Just the opposite actually. In 1994 the IES in Krakow found cyanide in the chambers, but not in the housing units, debunking the "delousing" theory.

ies.krakow.pl
There are also quite a few problems with Leuchter's findings, mainly in the samples which were used (cyanide doesn't penetrate brick, Leuchter's sample). These problems were pointed out by the laboratory which carried out the testing. Have you been to Auschwitz? Even the older gas chambers are pretty well sealed up. Regarding evidence, there loads of eye witness accounts and documentation regarding the exterminations, just no direct written order by Hitler to carry it out (if you don't take into account the Wannsee conference minutes).

There is an argument regarding the number of people affected, and their makeup and reason for being sent to the camps. There is also room for discussion on what should be compensated for, and for how long. Denying it all together is ignorant and takes away from the current relevant topics. But hey, sounds like you're out on a mission. Don't let facts get in your way!

Work / Poland is headhunting seriously in IT, Finance and HR. [41]

Overall it's an attractive package ..... but not attractive enough for me to to take a huge cut in earnings.

Exactly. There is quite a bit of work available over here, but the salaries on offer are ridiculous. Decent salaries are on rolling contracts...and they seem to roll on forever, because the positions never get filled...

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

it's more than a third world believe me i lived enough

Here in the third world, I only have a 120mb fiber connection to my house. I long for the days when I can move west and take part in the broadband revolution that completely bypassed Poland.

Law / Polish Cop Took My Car Registration :S [143]

Really? Can you then perhaps explain why it says

In the same paragraph:

Mr Liwicki claimed Italy, the Czech Republic and Slovakia had introduced similar legislation. But Philip Tod, spokesman for the European Commission on health issues, expressed amazement at the plan, and said that the Commission would launch an investigation.

Immigration law in the UK allows for removal due to public health. EU law (Freedom of Mobility) provides for removal due to public health.

But in all honesty here, are you really that big of a fan of immigration and open borders, or are you just bitter because the UK government screwed the pooch on allowing unchecked immigration?

he got more language support in Poland than in Germany

Yea, and the roads here are so much better here than in Germany. I don't believe this for a minute. There are so many free avenues for learning German in Germany, where did you friend learn at in Poland? That's one of the big things in my opinion that is missing here, there is no formal system to help one integrate into Polish society.
