low pay in poland leads to academic brain drain

Poland's young academics are going abroad in search of well-paying jobs. Those who stay at home are labeled "desperados" and often earn so little, regardless of how many degrees they have, that they can hardly survive

you study hard and do a doctorate; you can speak several languages and work a lot. But in the end you earn about the same as a cleaning lady

I agree, my wife was in a similar situation, I told her to leave one job as I thought it was crap what they where paying.

Interesting article, however it is well known that unless you get some major industry sponsor academia (in any country) is not particularly well paid.

A guarantee of drudgery, hardly a recognised motivator. Advanced studies can be very indulgent anyway. Certain Polish institutions equip people with practical skills but still don't reward them financially.

Why not? Isn't Poland the country of milk and honey? Or was that vodka and cabbage? ;)
