Do you need any credentials to become a proofreader in Poland? I will be taking the TEFL course to be able to teach english and would like to work as a proofreader as well. Do they look for a university degree? There are online courses offered in proofreading...is this enough? Is my TEFL course enough? I am fluent in Polish as well. Thanks in advance for any info. Yes, of course, you must apply for PCK or Pozwolenie na Czytanie Korektę from Ministry of National Education. You must go to the Ministry (on al. Szucha) on third Thursday of any even-number month between 14.30 and 15.30, wait in line, register, bring two 2.5 x 4.5 cm photos, red pen, and pass so-called "proof reader exam" in which you must correct at least 90 percent of errors on a 30-page single-space text within 10 minutes. Fee is 500 zloty. If you pass you will get your PCK in six months. PCK is also affectionally called "Packa" from acronym, as you are swatting errors like flies. Good luck!

(żartuję oczywiście, nie mam pojecia, albo jest Polska.... :))

What is a proofreader ?

Is it someone who checks a text or letter ?

Or is it someone who works for a publishing house, working on manuscripts of great importance ?

Experience and a proven record are what you need. A knowledge of all subjects also helps.
