I'll be moving to Olsztyn to teach at an English language school in October for the 2006-2007 school year. I am from New York and currently reside there. Does anyone have any suggestions or information I should know? I'm not really looking for horror stories, things I should avoid, or other negative discussion. I'd like to know about good restaurants, what life is like, interesting things to do, cost of living, decent supermarket/groceries, movies/entertainment, transportation (trains, buses, etc...), and other basic info,
Olsztyn is a rather small city - I wouldn`t say it`s good or bad - well, to say the truth I haven`t ever visited that place to make a judgement - but I haven`t heard many negative things about it.
Here`s a site that shows some info about:
olsztyn.com.pl/_olsztyn/sub/rozrywka/rozrywka.php
- cinemas - theaters - muzeums - galleries - music - clubs and pubs - sport
Olsztyn is not a Big Apple. U must remember that :) There are about 175 000 lving in Olsztyn (and about 40000 from them are students). Two cinemas (one with several rooms ), two theaters, small but fine old town, several students club (most of them in Kortowo), a few good (or probably not bad) restaurants . Olsztyn live in the summer (Olsztyn artistic summer). Woods (the biggest area of forest in the city), and 13 lakes. Olsztyun is a capital to the voivodship Warmia & Mazury, but is not big town- is much, much smaller and uncomparable to the Kraków, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Poznan or other better known polish cities.
Olsztyn have a beautiful placed university campus (Kortowo).
But if u like the sound and live in the big city- I think Olsztyn is not the best option.
My friend is looking to buy a small flat in Olsztyn, can anyone help with which parts of the town are best, also does anyone know of any good estate agents in that are, especially if they speak english as my friend does not.
