Have you ever eaten at a place near Midway - Cuisine of Zakopane area?

Szalas Restaurant
5214 South Archer Avenue, Chicago, IL 60632
Strong ties to traditional ethnic culture is a hallmark of the Polish Highlanders and is well shown in the newly opened restaurant called SZALAS - Chalet. A spacious and stunning interior, designed according to custom, reflects the spirit and emotions of Poland's Podhale region. SZALAS is like an ethnic museum showcasing excellent food with the objects, artifacts and antiques used every day in the homes of the proud Highlanders. Get up close and see an original horse carriage, winter sleighs and samples of flora & fauna of the beautiful Polish mountains. Highlighting the dining room is an all original designed water driven rotating mill wheel, and a large cozy and romantic fireplace. The menu is composed of traditional meals, delicacies and entrees based on tradition but with a modern twist. Don't forget to visit our shop and get yourself a little souvenir which will remind you of your unique dinning experience. The long awaited dream of owners - Maria and Chris has become a reality.

One of my favorite places.

I think it's because of a lot of the poles stayed put in one neighborhood and city and more kept coming and now it feeds upon itself. It's a good thing not to many polski community are strong anymore point in case Milwaukee where i Live. Everyone was polish on my block and spoke it and now everyone moved and its no longer the polish southside but the latin quarter.

I have heard nothing but great things about this place. Several people have told me that the pierogies there are as good as mom's.

Lots of Polish people in the Detroit area. They were attracted to the area because the auto industry needed workers, and they didn't care if you spoke English or not.

Too bad all the negroes made Detroit unlivable. Lots of Poles then moved out to Dearborn, Warren and Sterling Heights. Detroit is 90% black now, and the only people (non Polish, and Polish) are too stupid to leave.
