when people post conversations like this it always ends up like people slagging people off then the name calling starts when at the end of the day there is no need for it why post on here if things are gonna turn nasty

t's smaller

A bit. Poland is 312,679 km squared and Romania has 238,391 km squared-still a large country. Obviously Poland has a much larger population but then again, Poland has stolen a lot of land in the West which belongs rightfully to Germany, so the argument of true size is open to question. It was interesting as soon as Germany gained 'independence' the Poles were very quick to start quibbling over future boundaries so obviously it is a sore point with the Poles and a continued thorn in their side!.

I think it all starts from the following topic. Ja mam wielki dom i wielki ogrodek. Do not ask me what all this is about. Of course, my daughter, being born in England speaks fluent polish without the slightest hint of an accent and as for her Russian, well, when she goes out most people mistake her for one of Gorbachov's daughters!

Russian provokation

Not in the slightest! Szczecin is a German city and always was. Poland has no claim to this land. If Poland has a claim, why was Poland so quick off the mark to reiterate the official borders between the two countries?

Thanks, nice map.

Probably, because after so many years of isolation in the Communist period, some people feel they need to try and 'flex their mussels' a little in the new free World. They simply lack the maturity that we in the West have. It is like alcohol, it just goes to these people's heads, we, on the other hand, are used to our environment for so many generations.

Poland has stolen a lot of land in the West which belongs rightfully to Germany, so the argument of true size is open to question.

That land was stolen by USSR and given to Poland, to compensate (partly only) for lands USSR stole from Poland.

z_darius, just ignore his provokations becuase in this way we are going to destroy all topics on this forum by arguing about issues which dont stick to the subject. as to me the end of this discussion can be moved to USSR talks ;)

It was the 700,000 Poles coming over here that ruined it for the Bulgarians in the first place. The Poles should be happy enough with the working restrictions placed on Bulgarians (young well-educated Bulgarians with perfect English that will positively impact economy etc) Theoverall effect of the Polish influx is positive, let the Bulgarians in too! (plus I prefer brunettes)

The majority of Bulgarians that I know (after living there) do not want to come here. They have seen the British tourists misbehaving on their Black Sea coast and are horrified by the thought of being surrounded by their people. The quality of life in Bulgaria is very good. I have never been to Poland but I do wonder after seeing homeless bums from Poland on the street in London - no offence intended but can someone here explain that?? The Bulgarians would never let themselves down like this - way too proud.

Plus look at the population of Poland - 40 million, compared to 8 million Bulgarians (they are not called Bulgars by the way thats the steppe tribe that interbred with the Slavs over a millennia ago.

Points systems based on education and skills is the only way. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

I completely agree with you about the Bulgarian people, and with that other poster who had spoken about the Romanians further above. I can't quite understand the mentality of the Polish people. They are proud too, believe me, however some of them seem to have a very low degree of self esteem. I have been to Dublin too and my heart bled when I saw one of my compatriots begging in front of a restaurant. However he did not really look like somebody for whom begging was the last stop before ending in a gutter. Most probabably he was one of those people preying on others emotions. Now comparing to those "disfavoured" new european countries, it is true that they are less vociferous in what they do, and never have i seen or heard any unpleasant stories about them. Are we, the Poles, a nation of such extreme mental diversity, that will never allow to create a good opinion (since people have tendency to notice and base themselves only on the bad opinions and facts )?

Y'know Paul, your post gave me pause to remember a few situations from my stay in UK:

I couldn't help but wonder, while living in London, at what would possess someone to go from their home country to live on the streets and be a general waste of space and a complete nuisance in another country, and not even have a clue about he language mind you.

That'd be like me emigrating to Sweden and then just pissing everybody off and not even bother to learn the language-wtf?

I'm not sure you could pole (no pun intended) the majority of Poles in the UK about Bulgarians as you'd need translators for everything. Actually that's a heck of an idea for a business if anyone hasn't thought of it.

That'd b

The very same can be said of the Poles coming here. And as you very well know, I aint got a problem with that..... you can't draw the ladder up after you.

See what I mean?

Then it's fair to say that most of lithuania and bylorussia belong to Poland, along with parts of the Ukraine. It's a never ending arguement in Europe. Boundaries have changed so much in the past it's impossible to say which country owns what. It's not just Poland and Germany that have had border disputes.

Romania received Transylvania after WW1. What an injustice!
