I'll be in London for a day coming over and a day coming back (flying into Heathrow and flying from Luton to Gdansk and back). I have no idea about travels in London...it doesn't look very big, but my baby says it takes a while to commute to different places. I'm thinking of staying in central London, but not sure......anybody have any suggestions? Also, anyone up for a game of pool and a drink?
Travelling to Sopot, via London....anyone want to get together?

Decorator?
I think all our UK friends went to sleep before I posted this.....that or nobody wants to hang with me (and I was willing to buy the first round) :(.......perhaps I'll get some takers in a few hours?

OMG - I am sure you will have a bunch of people lining up to by you a drink by then.
I am happy for you too.
PS> If you get stuck don't try to get a hotel booking from the Turkish guy on terminal 3;( -he is a cheat.

I arrive in London the morning of the 2nd and don't leave for Poland until the 3rd, so I'll have 1 1/2 days before I leave and another 1 1/2 days coming back. Would love to meet some other forum members if possible!
In which airport?

Heathrow (I think it was called Rush Hotel reservations) - basically they know that you stuck ,so they will give you higher prices - go directly to the hotel if you have to and I don't recommend any hotels at the aiport - very expensive. I got stuck because my flight was cancelled and I was flying out very early teh next morning.
But from the look of it you have enough time to travel ouside of the aiport and getting something for a decent price.
and I was willing to buy the first round
now you're talking :)
i'm sure the list will soon grow, so i'm adding my name to the list too and this is a good opportunity for us Londoners to see who's who too.
Ask away if you need any info on anything.
I would be pleased to meet up for a small cocktail or two. I'm away myself when you arrive in London but should be around when you are on the way back from PL. Course this depends on my work schedule in Ukraine but I am back at weekends, have to spend Mondays at the old job here and can always extend time in UK to include at least Tuesdays
August 1st-17th.....I can't wait!
Hi Ranj, Eastender directed me to this quote, i will definately be in London before you return to Poland so would love to meet up with a few of us for a beer (or two). I believe my e-mail address is open to view so feel free to keep me informed.
Ps, i by no means said yes because you offered to buy the first round ha.. ;-)

Thanks for the tips, M. I'll actually have my accommodations squared away before I arrive.....any suggestions on a good place to stay? ANYONE? ANYONE?

Would be great to meet you and the Mrs. :)

I was just offering since I'm the one who was inviting everyone out, but I'm more than happy to let you guys buy the drinks ;)!
Hey Ranj, I would have been happy to help you out but as you know I am also going to Sopot.. I havent booked my flights yet, but it is looking likely that I wont be back in London til 2nd, 3rd or 4th August. Once I have confirmed dates I will let you know and maybe we can meet either in London or Sopot.
My advice is dont stay in Central London as its very expensive. Lodnon is big but its easy to get around by public transport. Cheaper areas include places like Earls Court, where a lot of travellers stay. If you let me know how much you are willing to pay per night and what kind of place you are looking for I will try to find some details and send them to you. If we dont get to meet before then I should definitely be around the weekend that you get back.

I just wish I knew you guys when I got stuck in London;(. It was the worse travelling experiance for me. Not that I want to steal your thread Ranj.

I could have given you a guided tour :-)

Looks like a good little get together!!
What will i wear? oh dear all these stressful decisions...
next time Miranda..London is not a nice place to be on your own if you dont know the city. its always good to have some contacts.. even if they are only possibly weirdos on an internet forum. I was stuck in Miami for 24 hours recently and that was hell on earth for me.. would love to have had someone to show me around, rather than trying to walk the streets, get cabs etc. on my own. I didnt even know how big a block was, til I tried walking 8 of them!

thanks Dec - I know you mean it. I was lucky enough to fly out the next morning, but if I was stuck I would probably get on the internet and ask for help. It is just nice that there are so many friendly people and that proves that this forum connects people.
BTW - if you need any additional info re Canada - I would be happy to help.

Black trousers and a white top no doubt.. like your favourite drink.

for sure - thanks

I didn't get the impression either - with all the extra security so visible everywhere it was quite shock for me coming form Canada.

it doesn't appear so :)

I totally feel for you - and those American blocks - so deceiving. I had to stay at the aiport with hundreds of flight cancelled ( Chrismas time) and tons of people going in different directions at once - it was a havoc. I am surprised I made it out of there.

Ranj its a strong possibility I will be in London on the 1st :)
I won't arrive until the morning of the 2nd, but I don't fly to Poland until the 3rd.....plus I'll be back in London on the morning of the 16th and won't fly back to the states until the 17th.....:) Still working on the best place to stay as I don't have a clue what's close to what and the best way to get about. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks Sapphire, I may very well take you up on finding a good place for me to stay. I'll PM you with some info. :)

I cant believe these rotten sods in London havent offered you somewhere to stay !!!
Anyway, you can get a bus from Victoria bus station to Luton airport and its dirt cheap, certainly less hassle than the train and cheaper than a taxi
So my advice would be to stay round Victoria station.

Thanks for the info you guys......it's ok.....I'd rather stay in a hotel so as not to inconvenience anyone....So is Victoria station in central London or near Heathrow? So much to learn and plan before I go.....I told everyone today at work I was leaving for Europe August 1st......my boss' looks at me shocked, because he thought I meant I was moving there.....lol.....they told me they would track me down and drag me back if they had to....to their relief, I told them I was only going to be away for a couple weeks.
You guys just don't even know how excited I am to be coming there and of course going to Poland to see my one and only. WOOHOO!!!!!
victoria is in central london. you can find some hotels round there but wouldnt recommend it. Which airport are you coming into? what kind of place would you be happy with? backpacker type or nicer hotel or bed and breakfast place? large hotels can be impersonal but if you stay in a bed and breakfast it is a smaller house run by a family that rent rooms out. I might be changing the dates of my trip to Poland now so will let you know if Im around when you are here.
