I am teaching my Polish friend to drive. Although her spoken English is OK, we still have a way to go with her English reading and writing.
Does anyone know if the UK highway code is published in Polish so she can revise for her Driving theory test. I do know the test itself can be done in Polish but thats no good if you can't study for it first!
Hang on a minute, are you saying that a driving test in England can be taken in Polish???? What is the point in that since our signs are in English since we are in England...And please dont take my comments as Polish bashing I just think this is crazy what next roads signs in Polish...lol good job Im learning Polish...:)
Wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper) to pass a driving license test in Poland? The document will be valid all over Europe so what's the point in making it the hard way?
they were my initial thoughts, but maybe she's over here for a while and not travelling to Poland any time soon....good luck to her anyway...I hate driving over here too many bloody nutters on the road.
No she's not going back for a while, and I agree it would be simpler for her to take test in Poland. The theory test can be taken in polish - I understand it's all done in front of a computer with headphones. It can be taken in lots of different languages. trouble is you need to practice before you take it!:)

all the procedures and signs in our company have been translated in to different languages and i don't think it is offensive to the english emloyees.yes,we are in england,in the english compamy but since a lot of our workforce is non-english it helps them to understand our procedures and signs better and accidents don't occur so often now.
taking an exam in polish, italian ect is correct.a lot of the foreign people are good drivers but don't speak good english.this is a barrier.why should they wait a few years to learn the language first? most of the signs are international, they don't need to be changed it's just a few basic rules which should be learnt.
remember that in some countries signs are written in the native language and in english too.would you like to have learn arabic first to pass a driving test in saudi arabia?

Well thats very accommodating of them, but I think that if someone is in England they should be able to read the signs at work, do you think that in other countries they would be so accommodating?? It gets my goat when I get paperwork through and its printed in every language you can think of, this is all costing money which in affect comes out of my pocket! I dont have issues with other nationalities being in England but I dont think I would be happy if I went into work and all the signs were in different languages, I am after all living in the UK!
check web for theory-tests.co.uk for a few practice sessions.
Facilities for those whose first language is not English If your first language is not English, or you can not read or understand written English well, you can request a voiceover in one of 21 languages. A voiceover allows you to hear the theory test instructions and questions through headphones. The questions will automatically be read out to you, you can hear the answer options by touching the text on the screen. You can hear the questions as many times as you like, you simply need to touch the text of the question onscreen again.
Foreign language voiceovers are available in the following languages:
My friend is complaining it is very hard, long expensive along with going to court... Is that true?
It is difficult and it can take a long time. A long time being six months. I'm told that foreign folk have to pass some sort of Polish exam. As for going to court, I don't know.
Blimey I went in for my test after 12 lessons and passed, I think if you have your own car and someone to take you out its much easier since a lot of it is down to road sense (goodness knows how I passed!!)
It's not like in the UK. You can't learn in your mates car and use L plates. All driving before the test is with an instructor and you must do a minimum number of hours.
Learners practice on a special course. Reversing, parking etc, and then they go out on the road for practice in traffic. They must do about thirty hours on normal roads.
Well, cant seem to find UK test in polish, but here is a link to the theory test in polish for exam here in poland. Its actual, same questions (data base of around 400), same amount of time (25 minutes) and same number of mistakes you can make (2/18 question in the test)
