I agree the English Lakedistrict is fantastic. My only complaint is it gets a bit busy these days.
40 mins from Manchester? You must drive fast! How is Manchester these days? I was at Salford Uni9 years ago. Bet it has changed a bit since then......

Mr L Manchester has changed beyond belief....you wouldnt recognise it...the giant toilet (the arndale) is all glass now....the Corn Exchange is now called the Triangle and M&S is attached to Selfridges and we have exchange square where there is a Lui Viton and Harvy Nicks!!! ooooohhhh arent we posh....lol...and there are more southerners than you can shake a shity stick at living here....

Okay maybe about 1 hr I dont drive fast but my friend does...havent been for ages last Oct. did Goape.....I hate height by the way....love it though...what a buzz....

I studied Mechanical Engineering. In the first year I lived at Castle Irwell (not very nice!), second and third years I was in Lower Broughton. Very rough!. I remember seeing the police heicopter over most nights - it was like being in a scene from Police Camera Action! My friend was in the rowing club and in the 3 years he found 2 dead bodies in the River Irwell. frightening! Was a bit of an eye opener for me coming from quiet Cumbria. If I remember right the Arndale Centre was blown up by the IRA in between my 2nd & 3rd years.

There are nice areas though - Castlefieds, Salford Keys etc. How long have you live in Manchester?

Where was it you went walking by the way?

Where was it you went walking by the way?

Constion, Ambleside, around Windermere...(Windermere for drinking and cavorting) - have you done the goape?? Oh and that place where the stones are that I always forget the name of...or just generally when we go we drive out and find some nice spots where the japanise and Amerians arent!

How long have you live in Manchester?

oh! all my life..

Castlefieds

All dayers in Dukes!!!

. If I remember right the Arndale Centre was blown up by the IRA in between my 2nd & 3rd years.

Best days work they ever did....

As an Englishman, I would advise any Pole coming to England to join a trade-union, because if things go wrong, they can be a very useful source of information and help.

Most of the Poles I have so far met, have been really nice people who work hard and do not expect special privileges, and it hurts me to think that a small percentage will be exploited by a few bad people; many of whom will be rogue employers or rogue agencies.

I sincerely wish that greater support was made available to people (and especially young people) who find themselves in difficulties or homeless in the UK, because I admire anyone who bravely goes to a foreign country, finds a job and tries to make a future for themselves.

That stated, I find that many Poles are quite happy and settled, and earning quite good money.

I'm totally surprised to read this articles today in two leading news papers. It explain how important now for us to understand what will happen in near future to our NHS. 5,000 Polish babies born in UK every year.. can you imagine that?

Oh .....It was a serious mistake to give poor Eastern european countries unrestricted membership of the european community. Unsustainable numbers of their citizens are coming to the richer European countries to unashamedly take advantage of their liberal Social Security systems. The idea of getting money without working, and free housing, free medical care, free schooling and a host of other benefits, is most attractive to someone who has had a hard life in a poor country. England, France and Italy will be bankrupted by unstoppable waves of immigrants within 20 years.

What about family chain immagration wth Pakistanis????????

I have Polish friends so it would seem they integrate quite well...they are westernised and practically exactly the same as English...no real cultural differences...I wont point out the differences between Pakistanis and English it would take too long.

Oi my dad is british and i was born in Uk.. who the hell you saying this to me fuc**** poles

We know this UK, but you seem to think you have the right to tell people to get out of this country when in fact your mother was an immigrant who had a child here so what is the difference, do you have figures on how many of these Polish women had English partners / husbands or if some were English women married to Polish men...same situation as you only the big difference is they are legal immigrants here in this country in their own right.

Funny you mention this. In the US I see documentaries about how muslims are trying to seperate themselves from society in the UK. I've never once heard anything having to do with the PL abusing the system in the UK or any other negative reports. If it was such a big issue at least the BBC would report something on it.

I don't see you on the news protesting.. or anyone else for that matter. Pff....Proves you're just all talk. So, why don't you just run along.

Well, there are clever people and not so clever people in the UK, just as there are anywhere else.

Mr Uk is presumably one of the less clever people, who understands nothing about economics, skill shortages, demographic balance or the principles of European free trade and movement of labour.

For a start, the Poles are NOT foreigners, but fellow european citizens who come from a member country. An English person is just as free to go to Holland, Italy, Germany or Spain (for example), and in the case of Spain, many people in the UK do just that in large numbers.

Many of the Poles with whom I come into contact, work at night, as I do. I don't suppose they actually enjoy working nights when they are young, but they do it and they work well.

Compare this to the vast pool of moronic, drug-addicted, alcoholic reprobates who skulk around England's green and pleasant land by day, and thieve by night, (when it isn't raining or too cold for them), and I would personally replace them all with central and eastern europeans, who know how to behave, know how to be polite and can usually be trusted.

If you want to know which people "drain the health-service and the benefits system," then you need look no further than the awful yobs who blight the housing estates in the inner-city areas, among whom many central and eatern europeans unfortunately find themselves.

If there is ONE good thing which might emerge from this, it may be the fact that the migrants can teach the yobs of the UK how to be proper human beings, and not how to be benefit scroungers and addicts.

Dulciana......whilst I can support and understand your points...its never quite as simple or straight forward as everyone would like!

There ALWAYS was an underbelly of social miscreants in UK, from as far back as time immemorial......famous old prints of Gin Lane in the East end of London, in the 1700s where drinking dens where so prevalent........alcohol and a flagrant attitude towards authority were the order of the day!

Again....no country is prefect...the system the UK has is their system......NOT the EUs or Polands........if this is how the population chooses to deal with its own cretins...so be it......in other words...they may be bast*rds, but at least they are OUR bast*rds.....!!!!.....

You must remember.......as least in my eyes that the class system is alive and well in the UK...perhaps never to be broken down or to dissappear!

EVERY system has its scroungers and misusers, even Poland.........c'est la vie!

Many of the Poles with whom I come into contact, work at night, as I do. I don't suppose they actually enjoy working nights when they are young, but they do it and they work well.

the polish here, tend to sleep in a bungalow with 20 people. they work shifts of 8 hours in most cases. one group works in the morning, one group works in the evening. they pay a small amount of rent. they are almost the half cheaper as I am.

me? I'm by myself. I'm not allowed to be living in a bungalow with 20 people. I pay more rent, and I'm willing to work longer but this kind of competition just isn't fair anymore. and I tend to work on saturdays and sundays too when it's possible.

Compare this to the vast pool of moronic, drug-addicted, alcoholic reprobates who skulk around England's green and pleasant land by day, and thieve by night, (when it isn't raining or too cold for them), and I would personally replace them all with central and eastern europeans, who know how to behave, know how to be polite and can usually be trusted.

actually, most of them are probably just guys like me. some of you guys are pretty full of yourself and seem to think that the english and the dutch are all too spoiled and too lazy etc, but most of these jobless youngsters are very much like me, they want to work hard and long to get somewhere, but can't really get a long term job anywhere because of the cheap personel from east europe.

many of my polish friends here - yes, I have friends ;p - know how hard I work, and they all make more money than I do, but they're doing the exact same jobs.

look, I don't blame the polish, bulgarian and whatnot for wanting to make more money, but come on, don't piss a hard working guy off with statements like these.

and all the good advice? keep it. I know I should ''compete'' and go to school. but hey, what if you work your ass off and still can't make enough to actually do school? you all seem to talk about ''not so clever'' people. well, you're talking about me too. and I can assure you I'm not stupid, not an alcoholic, addict or a scrounger.

and ''you can go to spain too'' yeah? problem is boys and girls, polish come working here, they make more than enough to live an easy life in poland, but if I go to poland to work there, I won't even make enough to pay my groceries and basic insurance here. see, england and hollland are pretty much the most expensive coutries too live in. young people like me have no ''let's make more money in another country than we can here'' option.

again, it's easy for you to talk. but it's unfair. what pisses me off is you talk about my people like that, but reality is that you don't know our side of the story.

''wellfare has dropped'' what they mean is, we refuse to give someone wellfare if he or she didn't work for 9 months straight.

well, you can't work for 9 months straight when all you can do is temporary jobs. and I'm willing to bet it's not exactly fair in england either.

anyway, I just want to say I have sympathy for both sides. just look at the bigger picture before you insult people you know nothing about.

:)

and I would personally replace them all with central and eastern europeans, who know how to behave, know how to be polite and can usually be trusted.

and you can trust me, I know enough polish youths to know better than that. :) I know they don't really behave themselves any better than any other guy or girl from the other countries.

personally, I hope everything will turn out to be better for poland now they've joined the eu, and I don't really have any problems with the polish personally, but I do think it'll be for the best if you all found a job in your own country? - I know bussiness is crap over there at the moment, but I think that'll change some day. -

but will someone atleast agree with me that most companies in our countries - and I mean construction, assembling, mechanical and agricultural work seem to automatically dismiss the option of taking their ''own'' before taking a foreigner?

yes, you are a foreigner. I do wish you a job too, but keep it fair. we need jobs aswell. not really blaming anyone, but I'm just not happy with this situation really. :)

oops

yeah sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh. but reality bites sometimes. :)
