Why do you keep coming back to PolishForums?

I've heard so many times here.. "I am leaving!... Goodbye cruel forums!... goodbye members!..." but they keep coming back.

Why is it? What is that thing in the PolishForums that keep making you come back...or log into the site, if not daily, than atleast once in a week (I think its daily), no matter how busy you are!

Sometimes this forum makes you angry, sometimes it gets you annoyed... sometimes you curse yourself even (I wonder). And still... this seems to be slowly becoming an important part of your life.

Do you agree?... if so...WHY? :)

During my life, i have had a lot of acquaintances from Central and Eastern Europe, but we did not have the chance to debate on many issues such as inmigration, racism, religion, customs, etc.

Here it is right in front of your face, and makes you wanna participate learn and discuss...thats why i come here often. It's fun, though some of the members should be spanked to death haha..joke..

I think the main reason why people keep coming back regularly (even after they posted their "Goodbye, I'll never come back here!" message ;) is that this site is real and 'not censored.' People can freely speak their minds. They come back after having been fed with 'politically-corrected' messages which don't represent the truth.

On other sites if you say something controvertial or your views are not among the 'acceptable norms' or your opinions are not likable to the site's sponsors then your posts can be removed or you as a member will be scrutinized by the moderating team. Here, only those who really go over the board get suspended (and usually temporarily).

That's why we should pray that this site remains ad-free; otherwise sponsors (not admin or moderators) will be the 'stock holders' who determine what is acceptable or not. If that happens, true free speech as we know it will be over.

I came here more when I was more actively learning Polish and when internet forums were a new thing to me. I think I came here slightly less when I was busy having a Polish girlfriend, then (strangely) even less than that when I had the second of two Polish lodgers living in my flat. Really, I'm not as interested in all this stuff as I was, although I do come back just to see what's going on and to remind myself of how forum addicts spend their lives. I am almost cured.

I have, in the past, said that I'd ignore PF for a while, but I don't think I have ever stated that I'd leave. If I say that I would leave, I would say so knowing that I'd have to go back on my word, either brazenly returning as Osiol, or sheepishly under a new name. Osiol is a good name, so I wouldn't like to give it up, but I do have plenty of other good ideas.

I have now met two other members of Polish Forums as a result of being here. Most, if not all of whom seem to be very nice people.

crown

Is it a crown or is it a very small sombrero? Sombrerito? Somrerko? Mały duży meksykański kapelusz.

A year ago, I started renting rooms in a house owned by a Polish man. I have had the opportunity to "hang out" with his Polish friends, totally fascinated with the language and community. Along the way, I have realized that the "landlord" is the most honorable, decent man I have ever met. Is that about being Polish, or his unique human character? This is why I visit PF. I am Southern American, some cultural differences are quite humorous. Whatever the reasons, PF is always entertaining and educational!

It's international and you can get a more rounded perspective of Poland. WB is right, though. To really 'fully' take part in the discussions (outside of jaded stereotypes), you should live here with your eyes open. Also, your working day plays a large part. I only have 2 classes today (16.30-18.30) so part of my free time will be spent here with posters who actually reply and discuss (mvefa, M-G and WB at the mo).

I was gonna go swimming but my muscles ache after the footie last night. I'll do sit-ups instead, good stomach crunchers.

Why do you keep coming back to PolishForums?

Why do people drink too much...despite the fact they know they will regret it....Polish forums is a much cheaper addiction...and the hangover is not so bad....!
