A year and a half ago.
I was close to buying a house in Myslenice powiat, on a hill, south facing backing on to very old forest, with wild dear.
It had electricity, septic tank, water from a well, not central heating or gas, it needed a complete renovation but a family did live there even though it was classified as a weekend home or holiday home.

It was miles away from anything, I asked where the nearest pub was (I'm always prioritising) and I was told that the women in the area had the last pub closed down because all thier husbands were there all the time :)

It was exceptionally beautiful location but in the middle of nowhere and although it was only on 5 are and the asking price was 35,ooo Euro.

It has been sold but I do not know for how much.

And I am glad I did not buy it and move into it...

You might find something that needs doing up. Otherwise, your 20,000 won't get much, if anything.

hmm.. if not 20k euros then how much?

Ideally a little something within 30min drive of a "nice" larger city... or even a flat in a city that is liveable lol

wish I could get a time machine and go back to 1990....

Think coal mines, think Silesia.

Mikołów is near Katowice and may have just what you are after.

This might be more expensive than a house in the country

Well this is possible, but the house is unlikely to be within 30mins drive of a "nice city" and is obviously not going to be a mansion...

I just looked at a real estate magazine, and an agency in Tarnów (consulting.net.pl) is advertising several houses which are priced at less than 20 000 EUR.

For example:

Piasek Wielki, Świętokrzyskie - wooden house in good condition, ready to move into, located next to a forest and on a plot measuring 1.92 ha. Price 58 000 PLN

Wilkowice, Świętokrzyskie - "ładny dom murowany", single level in good condition ready to move into, 50m2 (pretty small for a house!) on a 1400m2 plot, price 60 000 PLN

Nice house? 300k PLN in location that you would like (but not near Warsaw, Cracov..).

wish I could get a time machine and go back to 1990....

Then go to Belarus

CANT REMEMBER WHO IT WAS

They wanted one for 20000 euros... not that there is much difference between the pound and the euro these days

Your 20K Euro will buy you a lot of hot air. Make sure you bring it in cash and I am sure a Polish real estate agent will find you something you can tell your family about and maybe you can get a picture and show it to your first born and he can say "daddy you did so well investing my college money".
