Hi all,

I am coming to Warsaw soon and I wanted to take advantage of the exchange rate to buy a small car.

I wanted to know what I need to do to drive the car away to another EU country (Belgium) - where can I get temporary license plates? Are there any customs forms I need to get stamped.

Any help gratefully appreciated!!! thanks

You planning to buy a new car or a used one? If you want a new one, make sure that the dealer sorts out the paperwork (make it part of the deal). If you want a used one, just ask the seller to leave the old plates on the car (again make it part of the deal).

yes its a new car. do you know whether you have to supply a polish address to get temporary license plates? the dealers can maybe sort it out, but they don't care about this detail. If I can't give a foreign address, I am in trouble...

I don't know if the address has to be Polish (mine was but I live here). If the dealer doesn't care, remind him (and his boss) that there are plenty of other dealers and if he won't do the paperwork, you'll just go to one who will. Sooner or later you'll find a dealer who wants to sell you a car.

How are you buying it?

I tried to buy my car on 5 year credit but they wouldn't let me because I didn't have 5 years left on my ID. Might just have been a provincial bumpkin mindset of the salesperson but in these days of credit-crunch it could be a problem.
