This is utterly ridiculous, me and the G/f went to do a weeks shopping in Biedronka of all places (we've been relegated from Auchan since the maluch caught fire :( ) thought that i'd pay for it on card as most normal people do only to be told that they don't accept cards,

How much business must they lose as a result of this?

yes plastic is just not as widely used in Poland as back in the UK.

I can only presume that biedronka and others don't accept cards because there is 2% - 3% fee involved for the merchant...

Lidl and Aldi only recently started taking cards in the UK too, I've never understood it...you'd think they would just stick an extra few pence/grosz/whatever to pay for it, but obviously not...

mvefa you are mistaking credit cards for debit cards that are used only for paying. I always use my card to pay in shops I haven't had any problems with it for a pretty long time. What city do you live in dnz ; o

they don't accept cards

hmm maybe they want to hide a turnover, have instant payment in cash. Surely they want to avoid a bank fee.

I'm sorry to hear about your maluch. As for Biedronka, I guess that their target are the low-income customers so maybe they think that they do not have to strive for perfection? :)

From my experience most supermarkets do allow their customers to pay by card. The two exceptions tha I know about being Biedronka and Netto.

Dont super markets usually have a sign saying that they take cards?

You have to question the logic of it. When I go to Makro, I don't have the option of paying by credit card as it's cash only. Then again, it's not a supermarket as such so I wonder if Walmart operates on the same basis.

WalMart takes cash, credit or debit. Costco only takes cash, debit or American Express (here in Canada, that is)

Cana where? Just kidding ;) ;) At least both go beyond cash. I can't remember how it was in the Makro in Aberdeen (Scotland), I'll have to ask my friends.
