In an interview in the Daily Telegraph British Culture Secretary Andy Burnham said he wanted a rating system for the Inernet like that applied to films (age of persmissibility). He said he was working with Obama to create higher decency standards to protect children against harmful content. The copy-cat Poles would probably introduce something of this sort only if some foreigners did so first. Little original initiative or innovative thinking along the Vistula? Any comment?
DECENCY RATINGS FOR THE INTERNET? Would it work in Poland?
The copy-cat Poles
Who ? Are your posts deliberately inflammatory ?

just what is not needed-more bureaucracy from an all ready big brother style goverment (uk)
The rating system for films is far from flawless. Again, the point is WHO makes the decisions and what gives them the right to do so. Some films that have been passed as 18 are light for most 12-year old kids these days. Some 15's are quite graphic and contain disturbing themes. So, the key is parents checking out the films and making judgments for themselves.
Parental responsibility should be extended to this Internet rating system. Sorry, I don't see how the judgment of politicians should take presidence over those that directly raise the children.
The Poles probably believe in the maxim, 'If it ain't broke, don't change it'.
Some twattish politician trying to earn extra bucks for himself, sickening :(

create higher decency standards t
decency and politicians lol
In a nutshell, that was what I wanted to say.
Now, back to my serial killer book. I wonder what rating this would get. Quick, ask me if I care.

Is mine the only internet connection with a filter on it ?
As usual adults not able to think for themselves and need a politician to do it for them. :)

Quite pathetic when you think about it :(

like we have few other things to worry about
Another thing which "Big Brother" is policing, agreed with The sheep.
Maybe they should have thought about protecting children against war-related images. The graphic content 'security' on Youtube is a joke. Charred bodies can be seen, how about this?

We've still got a pretty good filter on youtube - for the kid's sake. But Liveleak can be pretty graphic (severed arms, charred bodies etc....). Fortunately the kids don't go on Liveleak.
Yeah, youtube went down in my opinion when i seen the Saddam execution video, and the video of the American Pilots killing the Brits by mistake.
It has been shown time and again that the kids of the current generation know more than their parents. They are getting smarter and smarter. Don't assume that they can't get round filters.
Perhaps that statement should be re-formulated to read: "The kids of the current generation THINK THEY know more than their parents. They are getting smarter and smarter" AND ARE WELL ON THERI WAY TO BECOMING TECHNICAL TITANS AND....MORAL MIDGETS!!!.

I'm not opposed to decency ratings if they don't interfere with accessibility. That said, the above is at best a gross stretch. At most, there was a telephone conversation or a shared memo between Obama staffers and the Culture Secretary.

Aol has a rating system , its to protect children, I am all for it, how many sick perverts out there who hunt children on here... what is wrong with protecting children? before we had internet they stalked them in cars.. now they do it via the internet.. any type of protection is ok by me..
