Hi Andy. I dont think this is true. I know in the Catholic religion in Ireland it is permitted. Some local priests take exception to unmarried couples christening their children in church on Sundays and have to pick a week day but this is the first I have heard of what you stay.

I myself am divorced (however in the eyes of the church I am not) and have a son that I christened when I was separated from my ex (not divorced).

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best.

It all depends upon the priest. My sister's first child was baptised in a catholic church while she wasnt married. After she got married and moved up country, her second child was refused baptism in a catholic church (so she was baptised in the Church of Ireland).

Try to find a proper priest.

I think Barney hit the nail on the head here. The older generation of priests are set in their ways and as this type of thing may have been frowned upon in days gone by they tend to take the same approach now.

Find a young priest who is more adopt with modern times and society.

Rubbish! No priest has a right to refuse to christian your baby, unless his name is Rydzyk.

Leave that poor baby alone. Let him/her choose when she/he gets adoult.

Very good point, jacob. Too many choose too early and it creates complications later. Fine, bless your child but there are others who don't and feel God very much more.
