CNN and BBC Prime :)

TVP international channel which shows polish soaps and movies with english subtitles. Actually the only channel which is really helping me with my polish exposure..

I watch TVN24 a lot. Monika Olejnik show and Szkło kontaktowe. Also BBC, CNN and Deutche Welle (to learn German) and TV3Monde for pretty, well dressed French female anouncers and the sound of French. I watch some sports channels, too. Soccer and sometimes speedway.

Wroclaw...maybe you'll read this, our regional TV station called Ulster TV in N Ireland is doing a programme about Wroclaw on Thursday nite coming, 7.30pm local time about the mass exodus of people from your city and the mayor wanting them to come back.......!!

It is beautiful, and unique...has lots going for it.....hope to visit again in November!

Frank,

It's a programme I'd love to see. I've heard stories of people being offered a bounty to come back. Also, some of the people here are more than a little pi**ed off because those who return are being offered higher wages than those who stayed. There are a lot of people here who don't want them back for this reason.

When you come in November I'll buy you a beer in Kelly's bar.

I remember when I lived in Ireland [age 5] my mum used to get annoyed with me because
every second word was "sure" or "surrrrre'

Shelley,

Yes. Just let me know a few days before you get here.

For those learning English, who have BBC Prime, use Teletext page 888 for English subtitles. Then you can listen and read. It will help you to catch some of the vocabulary. I don't know if this works with cable TV. We have satellite TV.

Rafal Dutkiewicz appears on BBC World - Hardtalk, 9th October.

He will be talking about the EU and work/jobs.

Check your TV listings for programme info.

This guy is so often on bbc recently that I start wondering if they are not paying for this PR promotions.

Sudheer,

Please tell me what system you have. Is it satellite: Canal +, Polsat. Or terrestrial. Or do you have cable.

The Canal + package has programmes in English. You just hit a button on the remote.

Polsat has some programmes in English. But I never watch it, so I can't help you much with that.

I think we need input from other posters on this subject. There are Polish programmes with English subtitles and English programmes with Polish sutitles. It's just a matter of finding them.

On Polish TV they have their version of Strictly Come Dancing. It's called Taniec Gwiazdami.

I only watch it to see the beautiful women dressed in skimpy clothes !

Reality TV is the worst. That's all people watch in the US too. Sad how no one lives their own lives now. We resort to watching others.

Sudheer,

Some of those are German so you won't be able to change anything.
But, if you have Bloomberg it might be the English version and Deutsche Welle has an English version. Polonia 1 has English subtitles [I think.] Zone Europe, try to change language on the decoder remote control.

Sometimes it's hit and miss. I've found good Arabic movies with English subtitles. At other times nothing.

Not much help am I. Sorry.

I think TV Polonia is aimed at Poles who live outside the country so many of their programs and serials are subtitled in English.

I suppose if you record the programme and play it back then it's a pretty good way to pick up the language.

For the ones with Cyfra+: CanalPlus and HBO have Polish subtitles on teletext. So you can listen to the original and watch the Polish subtitles. It's better than this narrator, anyway.

im in the uk and looking for a satellite system that doesnt cost the earth ie dish/receiver and card to be able to receive polish tv channels?

Im in Doncaster South Yorkshire if anyone can say who to contact in the area for a qoute??

Find the channel you want, then find the satellite which provides it, then find a company which uses that satellite.

Sometimes a company will only advertise the channels they think you want. But there maybe extra channels [not mentioned], which are the ones you want.

Ask a neighbour to check their system. Have them go through all the channels to see if they've got what you want. And take it from there.

My current neighbours are english wroclaw but i know they receive the german channels i only have sky digital at the minute, but would like the tv channels for polish tv when i move house to assist and aid in my understanding and learning of the language :)

I cant remember the system a friend of mine had in the shared house she was in that aired polish channels :)

the satellite systems i notice when i am out and about on houses are ISS ... PolSat .. Cyfra mainly ... i know i would not be interested in the sports channels lol as i dont watch them on sky digital ... i do watch entertainment channels for comedies and dramas ... music channels ... movie channels mainly my daughter watches all the cartoon ones but esp disney channel :)

Check PolSat and Cyfra

Polsat should carry: Polonia, TVPI, TVP2.

We need a bigger dish to get Sky, so you might need a bigger dish to get some or all of the channels you want.

Even with the same decoder a bigger dish will pick up more channels.

When you move house. Do you mean in England or do you mean to Poland ? Just checking.

find out if a bigger dish will help. DON'T ask the Sky people. Ask someone else.
