Staying with a Polish Family in Krakow to Learn English

Czesc,

I'm moving to Poland next year and my work will give me time off to learn polish in February 2008.

I am booked to do a 4 week course with a University in Krakow and would ideally like to stay with a Polish family / Polish people to help my Polish during this time. By then I will have done 3-4 months of Polish training in the UK, so will be able to speak (badly...) and understand (a bit less badly...).

Any ideas? Google has not really helped me...

Dziekuje bardzo i do zobacenia

Tim

Witaj, Tim!!

I think your experience sounds awesome. In addition, you're lucky to be settled in Kraków, as the Jagiełłoń University there has a special 'Język Polski dla Cudodziemców' programme (Polish for Foreigners) and you'd therefore be in an ideal position to take courses at that university. Best though to book in the UK. Booking directly at the school itself might be a tedious exercise in bureaucracy instead of a lovely intro. to a fascinating country and culture.

Powodzenia a wszystkiego najlepeszego! (Good luck and all the best!)

Cheers,

Which uni is it? (ignore just read the above message posted 1min before me)
I could do with brushing up on my vocab, which I have found to be a little short when visiting the relatives.

Good luck with it too.

In the 1980's the Jagiełłonski Universitet in Kraków used to offer six week full time courses for foreigners as well as that famous university in Lublin. Everybody in Poland is now studying either full time, evenings or week ends, za oczne, or whatever the Polish expression is. Anyway, it might be worth looking at a web page and see what is on offer.

Thanks - I think I'd better clarify - I am already booked onto a polish course for the month of february. I just have nowhere to stay yet and would prefer to stay with some poles.

Be very careful because the Poles will try and charge you for anything and everything-nothing is free in a Poles home, believe me!
