Life / Most famous, respected Polish last names? [46]

nope. My family is Jewish and my last name doesn't end with -ski at all :)
I think that '-ski' is just a typical ending for polish adjectives, thats all.

yes I know most Jewish last names don't end with ski. I allways wondered the difference between names ending with ski and sky. Majority of ski are polish, but would sky be different? Russian? Lith.? Czeck? Jewish? Any Ideas?

How about last names ending with sky? I know ska is a womans' maiden name and ski would be the mans'. but would names with sky mean someone in the family tree was jewish? or does it depend on the area of poland?

USA, Canada / The 2nd Amendment (USA), the right to own guns [261]

Personally, I love my guns. I have a high powered rifle for long range sport shooting, and long range hunting out west. I own a Hungarian sks, and just bought a Brazillian .45 model 1911. I am not a gun fanatic like for example the jag offs who committed the columbine shootings, or belong to any malitias. I am a responsible gun owner, the way all gun owners should be.

I 95% support gun restrictions in USA up to this point, such as ppl w/ criminal records not allowed to own guns. But if USA follows the footsteps of the rest of the world, I will feel insecure. What stops criminals with stolen or unregistered guns from robbing an honest former gunowners house then? we would be defensless. If that were to happen, I would probally carry a 20 lb Viking sword or something.

Guns are a mechanism that men and women love fro fun and recreation just like any other toy.
P.S. I WOULD LOVE TO DROPKICK HILLARY CLINTON! Go Romney. please respect my opinions, for i will respect yours.

USA, Canada / Polish, American, Polish-American - what am I to you? [34]

hey thanks Polanglik and Patrycja19, that is the way I basically feel, but how about other people born in Poland? am I recognized as a fellow Polishmen? I've met some people from the country and most seem to feel a bit of connection, but some don't. At the same time my brother has Ukrainian freinds and they think of us as Polish. Any thoughts?

How do you know for certain you are 75% polish

2 of my gp's are 100% or in your terms, full polish. my other 2 are half, both having 1 parent from Poland. Do the math. OF 8 greatgrandparents 6 are FROM POLAND. "I know this, because tyler knows this''. 6/8 divide by 2 = ? aaaa............uummmmmm......hmmmm.....lets see 3/4? and 3/4 into percentage can only be equal to? yeah 75% See that? Just like 3rd grade again. 5+5=????????10, very good

USA, Canada / Polish, American, Polish-American - what am I to you? [34]

This is a subject that crosses my mind every now and then. I'm American born 75% Polish blooded. The other 25% is split up from other slavic countries. Most of my greatgrand parents were the Polish immigrants. And my grandparents are fluent with the language, while I only know few words and phrases.

So what am I considered to everyone living in Poland, or ones who are Polish born? Am I a Polish men, Polish-American, Polish decent, or just an American. Our family keeps Polish traditions on holidays. I'm told by others I have the Polish looks. I am recognized as being Polish by people in daily life when they here my last name, Libertowski.

All comments are welcome.

History / THE POLES ON THE FRONT LINES OF WWII [92]

Yes as a matter of fact, My grandfather who was a wwII vet for U.S, his cousin from Poland that I met many years ago, was forced by Nazis to rush allied troops, be the first to inspect suspected allied fortifications, dig bunkers, be scouts and so on. He said if they wern't getting killed from the front by allies, retreaters would be assassined by nazis. They feared nazis over allies. They wore yellow sleeve bands that read "deutch vermacht" that Nazis would throw on able bodied civilians after invading their towns. -war is hell

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

......or maybe going to sunday school and church at the irish end of town may effect my opinion. w/ experiencing favoritism The city is in shambles from the politics,NOT going to mention names... BUT I am open minded not stupid, I accept everyone unless they otherwise prove themselves. The things Ive mentioned are what I know from seeing, not hearing. AND as I said people FROM Ireland are great. its ok you can " slag off" who you want. I wont bash you're opinion.

USA, Canada / 2008 U.S. Presidential Election according to Polish and foreign people [90]

McCain would be a good frontman for USA, I have respect for warvets like him, he wont get votes from the youth of America, they're all in love w/ Hillary and obama, which the LIBERAL and BIAST media has been driiling in our heads scince day 1. someone like Romney should take the rep. ticket for the sake of he can reach all types of people. Edwards ran as vise pres. in 04 and they couldnt even win his homestate of SC. thats an indicater. He reminds me of a used car salesman. Ive considered picturing obama doing the job, but he is to inexperienced(4years in senate) and needs a solid anchor besides"change" Ron Paul should be running as a socialist and not republican. His followers are like robots trying to promote him. Hillary is fake, phony, wishy washy, and all of a sudden a wannabe New Yorker. Yuck....Ptuey!! Follow who is more realistic and down to earth, I have yet to see that from the Dem. party. Yes I am conservative, but at the same time open minded. I vote for the person and not the party. this is my opinion which I am entitled to. and im not bashing anyone in here, so I expect the same in return please.

In my area, we dont care for the Irish. All of my elder relatives seem to hate them. They are stereotypically lazy, greedy, and think way to highly of themselves. They get into political office and only care for their own pockets, and are very corrupt. The women have no concept of cooking and cleaning too. But dont forget, these are 2nd,3rd, and 4th generation Irish. Ive met Irishmen strait from Ireland and they were fantastic people. Freindly too. I get along the best with fellow poles, probally cause we all have the same mindset.

Love / What is the wrong way to impress a Polish guy...? [22]

You should not inpress a guy, we dont like it, the best way is to show that you r intrested by smiling, often chatting and being nice it give confidence in making the first move for a man

I second that! make it be known. Stop blowing our minds. + being you're true selves is a geat thing too.
