Inverness is generally quite safe tho, I'm only aware of 1 bad part, the Ferrylands or sth u call it? My grandparents live on Annfield Road, it's near the 2 big parks and not so far from the Caledonian Hotel. I like going up to Inverness. Popular with Poles too. This thread is not only about linguistic mistakes, ok, then I agree with Foreigner4 that u have to be careful about trains here. The timetables especially, u have to check the dates carefully. Another mistake was when I said czesc/3maj sie to an old lady that I didn't know. My girlfriend found that really funny.

I think I landed on my feet Ian. I rent a central apartment in Gliwice, ok, it's a bedsit/studio, but I pay 700zł per month for everything. My landlord pays for all the utilities. I can only imagine the water and electricity bills to be high so it's quite incredible that it's only 700zł. I pay 50zl per month for my internet connection. Given how often I use it, it's nothing. Back to the thread, when asked quickly if i want 1 of sth, I really have to think if it's she (jedna), jeden (he) or jedno (it/neutral). The grammar itself is easy enough but knowing the gender is another matter

Absolutely not! I'm not an expert but I do know a little about diseases that lie latent. My friend in Hiroshima contracted mesothelemia when he was young in NZ, having been exposed to asbestos. He was very fit, being a triathlete who represented his country. I returned back to Scotland and I learned of his death about half a year later from friends. He had no chance!! I remember at the time of the SARS virus, the streets were filled (Hiroshima) with people with safety masks. Having lived there plus living here in polluted Gliwice, I'm aware of contaminants in the air. I agree with Madzia22, przepraszam sounds very official. Sorry need not be replacing it as przepraszam is not only used in an apologetic sense. It can also be used to get attention in a shop. Everybody seems to know what sorry means so why not use it?

There are 6 cases formally from about 2000. Another common mistake as a foreigner has been differentiating the sounds ś and sz. I also have a problem with 'y' and'e'. There is a clear difference but I don't always hear it. Here in Silesia, I don't get caught out as the vowels sound different from that in Warsaw or Poznan etc. I saw a difference when I was in Cieszyn. My girlfriend said kompot in a much more compressed way than the guy we met from Warsaw. He had a very elongated/open O when pronouncing that word.

Sorry Michał, the Poles do respect their own language. Look at English, we took on board a lot of French words but it didn't dilute our liking for our own language, it just gave it a different dimension. U sound like a puritan who wants a pure language. Language evolves, look at Japanese. U have menus in hiragana with words like tori (kurczak) and, on the katakana menu, there is chikinu (chicken). One syllibary is pure Japanese and the other (katakana) is the English-Japanese version. It doesn't present a problem. The key purpose of language is communication and being understood. Not adopting a pompous, moaning approach. Let people speak as they will speak and u can speak ur communistic strain of Polish. As for ur workshop comment, well, Profi-Lingua say warsztaty. My girl also used warsztaty, she'd never heard of workshopy being used.

From a knowledge of Polish linguistic stems, it's possible that such a word existed aeons ago but sztuczny would generally be considered to mean artificial these days. One more thing, if u KNOW Polish like u r implying u do, why does ur profile state otherwise? Most Polish people think I've a good command of Polish. Me? I'm not so sure but enough to know that u were in error
