Travel / Nice place to holiday in the North of Poland? [26]

Kolobrzeg is most definately on the Baltic Coast.

Also check out Swinoujscie, close to te German border. There is a feature on it in the current edition of Discover Poland magazine (just flicking through it now in fact). I don't see the online version on discoverpl.com yet, but I'm sure that if you drop them a line, they'll send you a copy in the post.

Travel / Now Gdansk is tipped as a hot spot for 2009 [24]

Lonely Planet recently voted Warsaw as one of the top places to vist in 2009... but now DK has responded with it's list of travel tips - and they recommend Gdansk. Full article here:

timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/holiday_type/breaks/article5370597.ece

Its great to see Poland making these lists, isn't it?

Life / HATPINS & KEY-RINGS V MUGGERS? [12]

I do have some attack sprays kicking around somewhere (they should really be in my handbag). They spray attackers with an ink that is hard to scrub off and also coat them in a noxious smell.

Life / HATPINS & KEY-RINGS V MUGGERS? [12]

The hat pin thying seems like a really bad idea - it could easily be end up being used to stab the victim during the tussle.

Life / POLAND'S QUASI-BROTHELS? [21]

Indeed - it is mostly not a choice that they have. But then again, it's not called the oldest profession for nothing.

Life / POLAND'S QUASI-BROTHELS? [21]

I remember once driving through a small town on the German-Czech border. Forest for miles and miles, then suddenly what looked like a on-horse town full of strip clubs and brothels, and lots of women hanging out on the streets (in November, when it was freezing and was just starting to snow). I got the impression that many were gypsy / romany.

Travel / Wanted: Photos of Trojmiasto [7]

Why not contact the Pomeranian Regional Tourist office? They sent me some excellent images for a project that I was working on.

By the way, are you aware of shopandsee.eu? You may find some tough competition from this site - the people behind it have promoted the website with a series of off-line promotional initiatives in the UK and Ireland.

UK, Ireland / Can i get housing benefit in th UK? [20]

Why should I have to pay your rent and living expenses? Why don't you go back to where you came from and see if you can live off benefits there?

Work / Looking for a Finance job in Poland [11]

Question for the OP - what do you mean by "finance"? Can you be more specific? This could mean working in the accounts payable depatrment of an engineering firm, or it could mean an analyst in an investment bank.

Unless you've had your head in the sand for the past 12 months, the financial services industry is really struggling, and few institutions are taking on new staff.

Food / Beer and syrup - tastes better! [48]

Hmmm... I'm not a fan of piwo z sokiem. I had it on my first trip to Poland, but found it far too sweet.

On the subject of Polish beers, I recently discovered Bosman. Now that is lovely beer :P

Life / The 'Polska' jacket in beginning of Londynczycy [7]

Couldn't you make one? Get a hoody jacket from American Apparel and some iron on lettering... a P, an O, a L, a S, a K and an A... then hey presto!! Your very own Polska Jacket.

Law / Starting a Business In Poland - what should I know? [28]

I don't have a definitive answer, but think about it.... a start-up is always risky. The EU / Polish government and even venture capitalists aren't going to dole out money willy-nilly. You need to have some sort of track record. Development grants are only awarded to schemes that show potential.

Travel / Anyone flew with Ryanair from Gdansk Yet? [8]

I fly Ryan Air all the time, though not yet made it to Gdańsk. So far, so good - never had any problems.

You could also try Wizz - I think that they also fly to Gdańsk.

Life / tell me all about carnival in Poland [8]

Interesting... I've been to Poland lots of times, and have done business there for a couple of years, yet this is the first that I've heard about it :)

Are there any websites where I can find out more about balls etc?

Wow... so the party continues in Poland?

January is a dead month in the UK, and everyone's a bit partied out after Xmas and New Year.

Life / tell me all about carnival in Poland [8]

A few people in the office are mentioning carnival in Poland. This is in January, right? But is it the same as Mardi Gras, which is usually a bit later... like February or even March depending on when Easter is. Tell me more, please :)

Real Estate / People who bought in Katowice Oak teraces phase I and phase II [102]

I cannot make any constructive comments to this thread, but I have to say that I am loving the inter-forum thing that's going on :)

Perhaps we could do a cultural exchange, like the French exchange at school, but on foums... spend a week on pistonheads.com or hitched.co.uk for instance :)

Work / A list of English Schools in Poland run by a UK citizen? [24]

Hi - I know that this probably seems like a random question, however can anyone point me in the direction of an English school that is run by a UK citizen who moved to Poland and set up in business there?

Travel / Warsaw, Poland included in Lonely Planet's Top Ten Cities for 2009 [26]

OK, I've been digging a little deeper on this.... Lonely Planet consulted the authors and editors of its travel guides. The list was compiled by what they thought were places with an interesting twist, places that seemed to be overlooked but shouldn't be ignored, somewhere that had undergone some sort of transformation over the years and deserved a second look.

The book does mention the gentrification of the Praga district.

Love / Polish village girls vs big cities girls [37]

southern

Oh dear, been day-dreaming again?

I really do imagine you waiting until your mum's gone out so that you can have a bit of fun with her copy of the Grattan catalogue.

Language / Anyone use "SERWUS"? [46]

Hummel Hummel, they promote brand names on the streets? How much were they paid for that? ;)

You have no idea how much Germans get paid by Tag Heuer to go around saying how great their products are.... Guten Tag!! :D

(sorry... that's a bit lame, isn't it?)

Hamburgers wouldn't use it.

Not when they've got "Moin Moin" and "Hummel Hummel" instead :)

It's popular in Bavaria as well,

Ah right... that would make sense. I've only ever spent time in Northern Germany.

I've only ever heard of Servus as a greeting in Austria - never in Germany.
