Travel / Visiting Bydgoszcz - things to do / places to see [10]

I paid 49 PLN for the ride to Bydgoszcz from Warsaw... and so I think that you should budget 110 PLN for a return from Bydgoszcz.. There are some good cafes in the Stary Miasto area ... so do take a look there too. BTW, it also has the local tourist office there and they will give you more info on the local sights and bites..

hope that this helps u somewhat

Life / Indian moved to Poland [532]

czesc Rohit,

congrats on finding your lady love in Poland... and here's wishing you a long and happy marital life. I think you can eventually become a Polish citizen as they also do allow dual nationality. You need to be married to your partner for 3 years and also legally resident in Poland for the same time period. There might be a language requirement too..so you better work on your Polish too as you should know the language of the country you want to live in long term.

I suggest that you contact Viren from ELBAG as he has been resident in Poland for 7-8 years and knows much more about this than I do. And like you, he too has a Polish spouse and seems to be doing very well in business there.. so scroll back and check all these posts and find his post and email him... and you will also find my mobile number and if you want then you can give me a call anytime after 8 pm and we can have a chat.

BTW, just what do you do in Warsaw. I lived there for a year and its quite nice...though scores a bit less than Krakow, Wroclaw and Gdansk on the beauty aspect ?

Ok mate, its late and I have a Polish lesson tomorrow morning..Nightie night sleep tight.

Life / Indian moved to Poland [532]

Mate, get a life and don't be so quick to judge 1.1 billion people, 400 Universities,14000 colleges in INDIA and the quality of their graduates just on the basis of your experiences with a few nutters from the Indian subcontinent. Actually only 2 universities in Canada could be called world class.i.e Mcgill and Toronto. The quality of Canadian education can be judged from the fact that only 2500 Indian students choose to study there. While 80,000 Indian students make an annual journey south worlds to study in the USA, 20,000 in Australia 15,000 in the UK and even tiny NZ gets 4000 Indians. FYI, the FT(London) just ranked ISB (India School of Business) as the 20th best B-school in the world. Makes me wonder why no Canadian B-school could make it in the top 20. Selah !

Mind you I have not even mentioned the IITs and IISs whose graduates continue to find employment in NASA.. in which they have to produce some real world class scientific results or be fired.

The Indians who are in Canada now are no longer Indians but Canadians and so please stop whining about what 10 of your Indian aquaintances may or may not have done. As all you have is hearsay and nothing more. I know for a fact that if they really managed to bribe their way into good degrees then they might have come from some small town in a backward province in India. And it would mean that they are destined to work in private enterprises run by their family members already based in Canada.

It was a similar pattern in the UK when Indians It is absurd to make a broad generalisation about all poor soon to be immigating Indians which is almost an oxymoron. Poor Indians don"t have money to pay for exorbitant immigration fees charged by the govt of the Cold Country nor for the expensive flight to Out in the Snow. I can say that they would not think of working for the local govt in their adopted homeland either, partly because of home culture influence to distrust the government.

Also I think you seem a bit bitter about something that might have happened to you and I find it preposterous to say that "loads" of Indians walked up to you in Canda and excitedly confessed that they had bribed their colleges to collect their degrees. More likely you are either a dis-empowered Western person who has lost out or know someone who has lost in the rat race to an Indian and cant deal with it.

To the other Western brothers who get a bit hot under the collars, its time to go back to that powerful scene in Mel Gibson's classic movie "The Patriot". Lord Cornwallis is trying to persuade a gentler approach from Col. Tavington, his fiendish subordinate leading the British troops against the ragtag army of colonials seeking independence. Cornwallis gently admonishes " Col.Tavington, you must remember that these colonials are not our enemies, but our brothers. This war is a just a short period in our shared histories and when its over we will do even more commerce together".

So too..with a little more tolerance and openness to discover more about the other..we can all continue our journey into more commerce and greater shared prosperity.

Love / The number of men seeking a Polish woman [85]

Czesc Justysia,

Glad that you had a laugh....its a great way to end a Sunday evening...I will repeat that I did not post it... and I just copied our friend Mihal's comments. Strangely, I can't seem to understand what was funny about his comments concerning Polish ladies ... Did you laugh as much when it was posted shortly after some of your earlier comments..??

"
was Laughing My A*s Off, the way you put Young Polish girls... under neath it all, they can be quite hard made me laugh. my post wasnt meant to be any sort of a reply to your Indian TESOL teachers debate. and yes it had to be me."

Love / The number of men seeking a Polish woman [85]

czesc Justysia,

It had to be you again of course... please read the text carefully..

Czesc folks,

Mihal commented that"It is surprising how many Indian people are working in Poland as TESOL teachers and/or are looking for Polish girls on this forum or other forums. Young Polish girls do have a certain charm I suppose, though under neath it all, they can be quite hard too"

I was addressing the fallacy that there are Indian TESOL teachers.... and since Mihal is a Pole..he can say what he wants to say about his country women....Its none of my business.... or then again you can try and sort it out with him..

Czesc

and just it case you want to take up the matter with poor Mihal..here is the link for his post
good luck to both of you... and I will be following the thread to see what happens .

Love / The number of men seeking a Polish woman [85]

Czesc folks,

I don't know where you got your facts from mate...but I am Indian and travel a fair bit and have never come across Indian TESOL/TEFL teachers in Poland or other countries.

However, I have come across some posts from Indians who would like to be TESOL teachers..... but i can bet my boots that they did not get the job the appplied for ... The Indians teaching TESOL or what have you...are invariably nationals of the Anglophone Western nations....who generally try to hide their ethnic origin behind their passports and posh accents. So be warned when you do meet the odd brown man or girl in that pub...they not Indian at all...they are simply the Brown face of the UK or USA..scratch them a bit and you will find them as Western as your next John Bull or Jane Doe..

I also think that there is general contempt for the Indian accent from the Indian subcontinent and an illogical belief that you can cultivate a native speaker accent if taught by someone from the USA/UK etc.. I have met loads of people from Taiwan, Korea who spent 6 months in the USA and still have horrible pronunciation. One must factor in that India is very poor country and the excellence available there is very often obfuscated by both the poverty and corruption that persists in some many aspects of India.

Also English is still an SL for most Indians and they can mostly be classed as either competent or fluent speakers, capable of making slight grammtical or collocation errors. On the other hand, the native English speaking population in India is quite small...less than 80 million and they are generally upper class with good education who then move to the USA or Australia, complete higher education and become academics or stay in India and occupy lucrative careers in the private sector. They certainly see no need to travel abroad to 2nd world countries and other daunting locales to teach English. TESOL is a definitely a low paying employment option in Europe and the real money lies n East and West Asia..

Lastly, IRP (Indian Recommended Pronunciation) which is the standard accent used by newsreaders on TV is definitely better than any other accent and certainly better than accents by Eastern European newsreaders in English bulletins. Strangely the accents used on Western media always showed the strereo typed Indian accent of less fluent English speakers in India.... perhaps in time we will deal with that biases too as over come it. too as we always do... one only needs to check our recent history to know what I am saying is true.

Life / I AM BLACK. SHOULD I MOVE TO POLAND? [107]

czesc primo,

Thats an interesting post... and yes you should move to Poland... but be sure you know what you are going to do ... do you have any ideas about your future employment options and other stuff like that..yes there is racism... but heck man there is racism in the USA and India and so why not in Poland... On the whole, Polish people are nice and since you have already met your Polish beauty... come on over and see her side of the world.. It will help you understand her world view better.

Check my profile and read my replies to different threads and you will get a general idea of how Poland is for black people and even dark skinned people like Indians and Latinos. Good luck with your life and love

Life / Indian moved to Poland [532]

Czesc Sanjay,

welcome to Polish forums... and it seems you are yet another idealistic ranter like me.. so at least I have company now.

Going back to your comments about Polish girls.. and how kind hearted and homely they are.... I agree with you absolutely as I noticed this in Russian girls first.. I was educated outside India and spent all my time fraternizing with Americans and Australians and was floored by the confidence and value system of Western woman..long story cut short.. a decade later I land in Russia and discover the Slavic woman..who looks like a westerner and acts like an easterner... It was a mind blowing discovery and I can never go back to gaping at Asians or Westerner...

At times it seems that all eastern European women are focused on building a family and community values...though I have met the occasion gold digger who wanted to know my nationality and salary..at the first date. Some of our western brothers would beg to differ with us on the point of Eastern woman being perfect... but I guess we dont carry the baggage of being rich ...so women attracted to us are simply that..just woman attracted to us... not with the intention of going to India or becoming Indian citizens... or divorcing us after 3 years and taking half the house... ha ha... our national situation is well known... we are very poor citizens of this world.

About Polish consular officials, well again..they are just that..consular officials... and they are the same in every country. I have seen rude Indian consular officials misbehaving with foreigners standing in line for a few hours to get an Indian visa... and so don't take it personally... these folks forget that we are humans too.

I have had difficulty the first time I visited Poland and had to wait for 20 minutes in the immigration officials to minutely scrutinize my papers and then reluctantly let me pass through. My friend, dont take it to heart again..he is just a guy doing his job... and he gets his orders from the man above him... and these are directives issued from the highest offices in Poland.

Face it, you are Indian and different and so dont expect to be welcomed with red carpet.. Respect comes from nationality and not by colour and ethnic origin... India does not warrant respect in Europe yet.... and be patient and stick around and in 15-20 years India will be China and then you can produce your travel documents with pride at airports. I am frequently mistaken for a Western national and people seem embarrassed or uneasy when I tell them that I am an Indian from India. Its quite amusing sometimes.

Lastly, I strongly advise you to stay on at your job in the UK and save money and gather work experience and then come to Poland...also Poland is not Scotland and there is a lot of unemployment here.. You are a smart man who may have completed a good degree in the UK.... but that will not pass muster here.... you will be viewed as an Indian... and Indians may be a lower priority for work permits than other EU nationals. Polish professionals seek to move to western Europe in order to make more money and you seek to do the opposite.. take money very seriously my friend.. as it takes you seriously.

Your money took you to the UK to study and got you a good job... and your money gave you the chance to meet a lovely Polish girl and gave you true love... Your money also gives you confidence to leave your job and travel to Poland. so don't treat money making source-- your job --lightly.

I am Western educated Indian myself and take my word for it... one lovely Polish girl does not mean that all Polish people are nice and looking forward to having you come over and take her away or worse still live and work in Poland.

I suggest that you continue to work in the Uk and have your Polish girl friend fly over at weekends to the UK... there is no airport here in Torun, but there is one in Bydgoszcz, a neighbouring city. It should cost your 50-60 quid to fly her to the UK and also help you develop your relationship.

Being apart , gives you time to reflect on your relationship and also lets you meet other women and compare... if you still miss her then its true love...also she gets to think whether she really loves you. You see each other at weekends and so you have time to spend alone and develop your self..

Don't marry because you are lonely ...but because you have something beautiful to give her and also to get pleasure while you give to a good person. Marry her because she is already complete but needs you to attain greater perfection..sound silly I guess, but its true...

well, let me cease my ranting and hope you have a wonderful love story.. I am also here in Kujawy Pomorska...so give me a shout if you come to Torun for short visit. I also suggest that you contact Viru who is based in Elbag and has been here for 6 years... and listen to his sad story and rise to riches... before you come to Poland for a longer stay.

Czesc

Oops !

I forgot to add that from April this year, Indians and Polish citizens both have to pay for visas to vist either countries.. In pass both countries issued visas free... so dont worry about that anymore..Poles are paying $$ for Indian visas too... and I have a Polish friend who worked in the Indian Embassy in Warsaw and find the conducts of Indian bosses really crappy.

Thats all for now.

One last post before I sleep..

Sanjay, check out the helpful information in the PF Love and relations for the thread

Are Indian - Polish relationships possible ?
