Travel / Restaurants in small Polish villages [5]

Yes although watch out for places catering mostly to beer drinkers as they'd have often not much to choose from in terms of food. It really depends on region but rather look for best places to eat, it won't be expensive anyway. Many hotels would have restaurants. Many places are busy only Sundays afternoon.

Travel / Is there a limit to the number of trips in 1 year to Poland? [21]

If you leave your airport in Amsterdam or Paris you are checked there. If you are just catching connecting flight to another destination you will be checked later.

Internal EU flights are without checking. Airports have 2 zones, one for for incoming and outgoing flights outside of EU and 2nd for within EU flights.

Some airports have still one zone only so you may be checked twice but your passport will be stamped only the first time.

Life / Florists in Krakow (some internet links?) [7]

I used this one and the recipients were very happy:)

Good but your recipients received less in value as middlemen were paid, too.

Life / Germans and Poles - Fiction or Myth? [127]

Now – Am I wrong? What about the alleged mutual animosities?

Visiting small German towns next to polish border has often been no fun for me. I had experienced everything from openly hostile to mildly disrespecting. They have good bike roads there but better careful who to ask for direction or double think if you really need that drink bottle.

Many East Germans have that ...attitude.
I've been on day trips to Slovakian towns while in polish Tatra and couldn't see any similar tensions there. It's sad but even parking a car on polish plates for too long is problematic in East Germany small towns.

It is better off Poles who would go cross border for few hours but even that has stopped. Quoting my friend: " they (East Germans) can't stand I am not poor and have better car then they " I'm kind of fed up with East Germany myself too.

Life / HOW CAN POLISH PEOPLE AFFORD IT?? They are said to earn very little..? [43]

Help me understand. Wages in Poland are 700 to 900 US dollars a month. Hotels in the
moderate range are 90-150 US dollars a month. Gas is $7 USD gallon. Restaurants are
10-20 USD a month. What am I missing here. How can the Polish people afford to go out.

You forgot RENT .
Rent is only about 15% of income. Ask Poles how much they pay for rent not foreigners. My one bedroom, 70 m2, is 150 USD, all utilities including internet and cable 60 USD and I can load full basket with food for 25 USD.

Moderate hotels are 50 USD

Life / I'm an American who lived in Poland for 6 years. I'm not welcome anymore. [169]

You guys need some reality check.
One can communicate in English when IN Poland but job market is 99% for those who SPEAK polish. Notice that those immigrants who do well in US made an effort to learn local language. If you speak polish you have no problems finding job in Poland and be here.

Yes, illegal immigrants without local language have it even tougher.

Travel / Places to visit near Łódź [9]

Lublin had probably more of Jewish population then Wroclaw but it would take you 6 hrs by train via Warszawa. Wroclaw would take 6
Both are fine and vibrant cities with Wroclaw more cosmopolitan and more of a tourist hub.
Consider also Poznan and Kielce, both about 4 hrs by train OR Torun ab 2hrs.

Leczyca (£ęczyca) - one hour by train from Lodz. It's a small town with a nice castle:

Aleksandrow Lodzki, 10 km from Lodz

You could see both places in one trip. I've never been there but they are sort of "known" places around Lodz.

News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

When leaving Szczecin toward Germany one can see a put up road sign that says "Achtung! Alles verbotten - 2 km" ( Warning! All forbidden - 2 km).

On that note: we had recently incidents with German police issuing tickets to polish drivers for not having proper (in Germany) first aid medical kit. On polish side our police was ticketing German cars for not having fire distinguisher required. Both sides came to terms already....

Poles living in Loeknitz, Germany (some 40 km from Poland) are often targeted by local right wingers, to the point of many selling of property and moving back to Poland (after media)

History / How long was Poland "lost in history"? [21]

Poland was one of the most powerful nations of Europe for 700 years and all this is forgotten because of the 123 years it didn't exist.

I think you went too far there.
Poland ruled Moscow and occupied Kremlin twice in history. As my high school teacher would say we are 2-2 with Moscow in that regard remembering Moskale took longer to go away.

Poland was not on the map 1795 - 1918 and was enjoying status of today's Basque people coming back into political spotlight from time to time only.

Travel / Overstaying on a Visa in Poland [25]

eah you can move around within the EU...or more specifically Schengen which is many countries. That is my whole point. You used to have much more time as you had 90 days or so in each country.

It should be longer then 90 days in my opinion. EU is paying off USA for their treatment of visitors from EU.
I don't like myself the idea of allowing customs officials to ask for your ID without reason. It is illegal in Poland for police to ask for you ID without reason but customs officials are doing it on trains and elsewhere legally. The effect is we are checking anybody Chechen looking in Poland. The same applies to German customs who would ask for your ID hearing you don't speak German. Stupid.

Travel / Overstaying on a Visa in Poland [25]

"countries" are irrelevant here. EU has no border checks. If you have EU visa you can move around ...for 90 days.
