UK, Ireland / Polish students are rising to the top of the class [30]

one of the most famous places where that kind of people are created in Poland is :

sgh.waw.pl/en/ogolne-en/

Polish people translate it in way "Szczury gonią hajs". What means "Rats chase after money"
there are two different questions:
1) If we like them
2) If we need them ;)

(students form other economics schools in Poland would have the same answer for two questions ;) )

I feel that there are two different answers ...

I know that a lot of people feel satisfaction when puffed up person is unsuccessful ;) and some of them have problems after studies ... Most od them are successful (we talk about career) ...

as to SGH (link I have posted) they are very good in what they do ...

The main rating have been accompanied by 10 part-ratings, each of them including 10 schools being the best in a separate category. Warsaw School of Economics has been classified in three of them:

Best of Economics - 3rd position (just behind London School of Economics and Mannheim Business School,
Best in finance - 5th position,
Top salaries in finance - 7th position.

generaly hard work is the most important thing ... I feel that Polish students of medicne, informatics and economics know what I mean. In Poland poles have education for free so there is no difference poor or rich ... everybody have chance.

Interesting article, though I am not sure why you are using this to justify that massive chip that you have on your shoulder, Lukasz :)

honestly I don't have I just love to argue :) at least now we have freedom of speach.

A couple of highly talented Polish pupils have been given an amazing opportunity. Good on them!!

I would say that it is good for UK, competition brings progress ... it is good strategy and honestly we want to copy it ;)

Getting straight As in an environment like Cheltenham College is however no indication of success in real life.

I think that most of this so strongly motivated people will achieve what they want, we have some univ. in Poland where we create that kind of people and we see that it is very good investemnt (they are successful).

UK, Ireland / Polish students are rising to the top of the class [30]

you know on this forum we have seen so many posts about lazy Poles unable to speak english ... and I wanted to show something new here ...

"for us failure is not an option, so we value discipline and hard work"

it is good motivated young student who knows what he wants ... I am sure he is going achieve what he wants.
Wthout determination of Polish people we would never be free ...

The fact that somebody is hard working and disciplined doesn't mean that he would sell his family.

I feel that we have false picture of Polish emigration in UK ... and I wanted to bring something new.

I love comments of young Poles under this article :) my blood :)

There is just one thing that differs us from the "typical" British - the will to succeed. For us failure is not an option, so we value discipline and hard work.
And after so many years of oppression, we are proving what we're worth. Not only builders and plumbers, but bankers, doctors and programmers (like me).
Good work, girls. I'm proud of you.

I have decided to post something positive about Poles in UK : timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/education/article3510811.ece

Education experts say that their achievements are a warning to British teenagers that the work ethic of clever Polish children, coupled with rigorous science and maths teaching at an early age, could see newcomers beating "complacent" British teenagers to the best university places and jobs.

"They have a hunger for success. and know from their background just how important a good education is for fulfilling yourself and having the best opportunities," says Alan Smithers, director of Buckingham University's Centre for Education Research.

Education experts say that their achievements are a warning to British teenagers that the work ethic of clever Polish children, coupled with rigorous science and maths teaching at an early age, could see newcomers beating "complacent" British teenagers to the best university places and jobs.

"Before I came here, I heard loads of things. The girls are so posh, from rich, good families. The truth is they are so nice and down-to-earth."

I don't agree with all statemnets there ... all in all article is positive.

UK, Ireland / Do many British carry knives? [60]

as to success stories. Poland is success story :) and it is fact. esp when we know how Poland looked like 10 years ago.

as to reality on PF ;-) it is not real world :) sometimes I have feeling that I live in different country than presented here.

News / Follow the leaders invest in Poland [8]

I just decided to create new topic.

so here is new interesting article about reasons of investments in Poland.

warsawvoice.pl/view/9389

More international corporations are opening their financial/accounting and research-and-development centers for advanced technology in Poland.

In the near future, Poland may well become a key destination for companies moving their service centers from Western Europe. U.S. investment bank Merrill Lynch has recognized Poland as a highly attractive location for foreign investment in the service sector. Merrill Lynch analysts say many foreign companies will want to hire Polish workers, who are often better educated than their Western counterparts.

The high level of investor interest in Poland was confirmed a year ago in a report by McKinsey company, Poland: A European Service Center. Against the background of other countries in the region, Poland boasts the largest number of educational centers that train the largest number of college graduates.

future-processing.com/outsourcing-follow-the-leaders.php

Poland is attracting some of the world's biggest and best-known technology companies because it can offer a skilled workforce, reduced salary costs, efficient working practices and easy access to the industrial hubs of western Europe. Below are just some of the household names that have decided to set up software development centres in Poland.

Samsung to open mobile technology centre in Warsaw
(...)
IBM software lab in Cracow
(...)
Microsoft Innovation Centre in Poznan
(...)
Motorola chose Cracow for its software development centre
(...)
Hewlett-Packard in Poland
(...)
Siemens Software Development Centre
(...)

"If there is something we are not able to do more effectively, cheaper and better than our competitors... we should employ somebody else to do it." Henry Ford, 1923

Global giant Motorola chose Cracow as the location of its first European software development centre. The decision was made after analysis of many potential sites in Europe and was based on geographical situation, access to communications and the availability of highly-qualified personnel and universities. Since the Cracow centre was established, it has become Motorola's leading software development centre and has received the highest ranking given by the Software Engineering Institute of the United States, a leading software quality authority.

What is more. I feel that technology studies are very interesting as well.

nice link:

future-processing.com/outsourcing-polish-programmers.php

Programming is a discipline in which Poles have always excelled - which is why some of the world's best known technology companies, including IBM, Motorola and Google, have decided to set up research centers in Poland.

Listed below are some of the successes achieved by Polish programmers in recent international competitions.

this kind of studies are very popular as well.

not everybody is earning peanuts ... have you seen cars on Polish streets ?

What I want to add, the fact that 97% of students enjoyed their studies here, A lot of students come form Asia or Africa. Malesyan government decided to pay charges for their students ... they want their people to be educated in Poland ...

Polish doctors are one of the best all over the world (brits do everything to steal them ;) ) so Canadians and Americans are notcialble as well.

Of course even charges are lower than in different countries, it is noticable financial support for Polish education system (Polish students don't pay for education )

97% is 97%

this stat show that they get wat they wanted.

Study / More and more foreign students in Poland [33]

The point I wanted to make was that, in general, salaries are disproportionate to the high level of education.

it slowly changes, last time we don't have problems with unemployment ... and salaries started to increase.

Of course we need time to make our country pefrect ;)

Well educated foreign students with positive attitude towards Poland are great investment.

97% enjoyed Poland and studies here

it means that we are on good way ...

well for sure its not the food

one thing they don't like is that they feel that because of money they pay (Polish students don't pay for education) they have better accomodation or special treatment.

High standards of education :) Low level of pay :(

if we want to have more students in long term "lower prices + high standarts" is the best soultion. 97% of students are satisfied and it is good.

News / Peres: Poland one of Israel's greatest EU allies [30]

I really apreciate your post Talila.

Celinski I have posted this all articles to show that everything is going in right direction.

I will quote Peres :

"Poland had the world's largest concentration of Jews, with close to 3.5 million on the eve of World War II, Peres said, and it was there that the Jewish press came into being. "In Poland they spoke Yiddish, studied in Hebrew and prayed to be 'next year in Jerusalem,'" Peres recalled."

as Telila have noticed:

"Poland and many Polish people have been good for Jews, which explains why so many Jews settled there for so many centuries."

Now when Poland is free we started to have positive dialogue and there are some achievments.

I have checked Talia profile and she speaks some Polish even she hasn't been born in Poland.

Life / Cultural readjustment... returning to Poland from the West. [58]

There is saying than France is culture of wine and Poland is culture of vodka.

What it means.

Polish people are not interested in raltionships like

"Hello how are you ?

Hi fine, and you ?

Fine.

so see ya tomorow"

... and that is all.

Polish people prefere to have less friends or mates and have deeper relationship with those who they like.

In the result for somebody form foreign country it can look that we are cold or not friendly in public places.

I think you have noticed that it looks much different when you visit somebodys house or you go to party with your friends ...

today I have been thinking about Poland and Israel and I have decided to write poem.

Is it butterfly?
Is it dancing queen?
Dancing together
On fields of love

Is it spring fog?
Is it olive tree?
Touching each other
At the morning

It is Poland and Israel
Two endless lovers
Finally
Together

I have longer version of article I have posted at the begining.

jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFull&cid=1208422632707

"I came from the new Israel to the new, unoccupied and democratic Poland - from Israel, which is as old as the Ten Commandments and as new as the Internet," Peres said at the conclusion of his four-day state visit.

The Iranian nuclear threat, the terrorism of Hamas, the economic opportunities of "Peace Valley" and other subjects that Peres usually discusses did not surface.

This was his first visit to Poland as president of the State of Israel, whose founders were largely born on Polish soil, he said. Peres - who was also born in Poland - spoke more as a Jew than as an Israeli.

Poland had the world's largest concentration of Jews, with close to 3.5 million on the eve of World War II, Peres said, and it was there that the Jewish press came into being. "In Poland they spoke Yiddish, studied in Hebrew and prayed to be 'next year in Jerusalem,'" Peres recalled.

Though the whole of Europe was affected by the Holocaust," Peres said, the greatest tragedy of the Holocaust took place in Poland, which was why Jewish memory and Jewish pain are directed at Poland even though it was the Germans - who also inflicted great suffering on Poles - who were to blame.

Most of the Zionist political movements were founded in Poland, said Peres. In the first Knesset that was elected during the War of Independence, 61 of 120 members were of Polish origin, and in the first interim government headed by Ben-Gurion, six of 13 ministers were of Polish birth.
