Well this kobus thing has hilarious wedding pictures!!

The Foto Kobus in Dworzec Centralny is nothing fancy and is perfect for ID pictures, costs 20-30zl and is very quick.

Study / Schools to learn Polish in Warsaw [29]

I tried both the IKO and CJP schools, both were good but I much preferred the smaller class sizes at CJP.

Life / Polish speed cameras [37]

What ever they are the do not flash, they front face that would be dangerous

yes they don't flash, in my experience the police are able to 'log in' to the camera and wait further down the road to pull you over, have seen it many times and been caught once.

I actually love driving here, its edging and exciting,

lol...that's one way of putting it, wait till you've been smashed into a few times.

Life / Polish speed cameras [37]

yes lots of them popping up, often at accident blackspots and hopefully they will have an effect and cut the rather high accident rate in Poland.

I've been caught once (near Lomianki) and the police were actually dialled into the camera and waiting a further 2km down the road to pull me over.

There never seems to be any camera's in the cities though, they're mainly on the highways.

Travel / Golf (courses) in Poland! [25]

Golf is becoming more and more popular in Poland, I play at the relatively new 18 hole course Lisia Polana to the north of Warsaw near Modlin, there are also two new courses being built to the south of Warsaw opening in the next couple of years. There is also the well established but pricey First Warsaw Golf and Country Club to the north of the city.

For beginners there are training courses through PlayGolf which enable you to learn without having the expense of becoming a member at a club.

The game is administered in Poland by the PZG. They administer all handicaps centrally. All golf courses in Poland have a 'slope rating' indicating their difficulty level which means rounds played on any course can adjust your handicap, allowing non golf course members to have official handicaps.

There's a list of all the golf clubs in Poland here pzgolf.pl/kluby/ although it's confusing as there are many entities in Poland who call themselves 'golf clubs' but don't actually have a proper golf course. There are actually only about a dozen 18 hole courses in Poland.

The most talked about course in Poland at the moment is the recently opened and Gary Player designed 18 hole Modry Las near Choszczno ,I've yet to play it but by all accounts it's stunning.

Another recently opened 18 hole course is Sand Valley near Elbląg.

I played at the Polish Club championships a few weeks ago at Amber Baltic Golf Club near Międzyzdroje, great course and the fastest greens I've ever putted on.

Work / Advice needed ELS-Bell Szczecin (is it dodgy?) [45]

Because the tax is the employer's responsibility and is pad by ELS-Bell. 20% flat rate for foreigners.

That's a new one! There is no flat tax for foreigners. Full stop. End of story.

there is no 20% tax. There are 2 different scales you can use.

That 20% tax is definitely not true.

Regarding the 20% tax rate, it does actually exist for expats but only in very specific situations. I know of a few people who are paying it but they are high earners and usually in the situation where part of their salary is paid offshore. I've never heard of it being used by an english school before.

Love / Help, Polish men are very complicated! [51]

Shelleys! you are so harsh.

I would just ignore Shelley's advice as she's not Polish, am not sure what her connection with Poland is and she seems to only contribute irrelevant drivel to this forum.

Life / Decently priced gym or health club in Warsaw? [17]

The prices they offer is 200 PLN / month for a one-year contract

Holmes place at the Hilton is min 300PLN a month so sounds like a resonable deal for their Arkadia gym.

Life / Polish city streets - why do trucks go around spraying water on them ? [28]

Then we have the cleaning trucks that spray water but they also have brushes fitted to them so they can clean the kerbside as well.

They have those cleaning trucks too here in Warsaw, but the ones i'm talking about don't do the kerbside, they just spray the whole road with massive amounts of water (well I assume water).

Dust must be removed.

They're not that dusty though, it's Warsaw centrum I'm talking about here. Most of the roads have been resurfaced in the last 4 years.

It is to keep them from drying out

It's modern tarmac they're spraying, i could be wrong but i don't believe it can 'dry out'

Life / MARKS & SPENCER IN WARSAW [15]

The branches in Złote Tarasy and Arkadia both have food departments but they are very very small compared to the food departments in the UK M&S shops. It's mainly dry/tinned goods but the ZT branch now has frozen meals too.

Law / How do I get Permanent Residency in Poland? (Required for mortgage). [10]

I'm about to go through the application for Permanent Residency and have been told they don’t issue the credit card sized ID card anymore, all I’ll get is an A5 sized certificate at the end of it – not exactly practical for carrying around with you.

Anyone else heard otherwise?

Travel / Warsaw Metro & Public Transport & WiFI in Warsaw [10]

There's supposed to be a second metro line in time for Euro 2012 but I can't see it happening. The tram and bus network is extensive but can be very busy and crammed at rush hour.

Travel / Warsaw aiport to the central train station??? [16]

I dont know if this is true but I was told that taxis sometimes mess with tourists and drive around for awhile to get the bill up. Also that some of the taxis charge you twice what the rate should be.

yes you always run that risk particularly if the driver detects you are new in town, certainly avoid the taxi drivers that come up to you in the arrivals hall. The taxi rank outside the arrivals hall is operated by two reasonably reputable taxi companies - MPT and Sawa. It's a hell of a lot easier than getting bus and you run the risk of the pickpockets on the bus.

I take it you're arriving at the main terminal and not the Etiuda terminal ? The Etiuda terminal does not have an official taxi rank.

Travel / Warsaw aiport to the central train station??? [16]

get a taxi from the taxi rank outside the arrivals terminal, will cost you about $15, slightly more on Sundays/Holidays or after 10pm weekdays and Saturdays.
