These battles may have been heroic, but they were individual actions and fought alongside a background of total defeat!!.....When the Germans attacked the west and drove the French and British backwards, there were many individual acts of heroism.... One of these was the Battle of Calaise which held up the German advance long enough for the British and some of the French troops to escape back to Britain, but they were hardly important enough to be called a victory since it was done during a defeat!!.......I don't blame the Poles for trying to boost there victories out of all proportions when you consider what happened to that country afterwards....Maybe it is just normal, because if Britain had not ended up in Germany 5 years later and had been defeated in France in 1940......Everyone in Britain would know everything about the little heard of Battle of Calaise!!....I've noticed most Poles get touchy about this, like you said Britain has an Island we can hide away in.....Poland isn't that lucky....So I don't think anyone thinks badly of Poland for being invaded.

Hitler never even intended to invade UK - the plans were a smoke screen for the invassion of Russia.

What history books do you read Ogorek?....Or do you just make everything up as you go along?

They are in many cases part of the Country.....There is a big difference between that kind of immigration and having 750,000 Poles arrive on your door step carrying there suite cases!! Its like saying half of all Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders etc are British!.....The British emigrated to those Countries, but they see themselves now as being Australian, Canandian and New Zealand etc!!!....The huge numberes of Poles who live in Britain still see themselves as Poles!......You understand what i'm saying??

looks like your job hauling petrol is in jeapordy as many of those 750,000 Poles will be better drivers and do your job better and for less $$$.

Most Migrants here can't even drive cars according to the local Police....Anyway because of the saftey aspect to it you have to speak English well which rules you lot out.....You would end blowing the refineries up!!.........Poles here just do what most are good at. Picking strawberries and cleaning toilets!

i reali do h8 some of them i live under 4 polish men and they r all ingnorant n very aggresive
there music is on at 6 in the mornin be4 they go to work which is a constant nuicance
frankly i h8 them this does no aply to al polish people i respect the ones who cum over here n work reali hard so they cn give there familys a better life

there funny me thinks not if they wnt to live here they sould b expected to pay tax and watever anyother british citezen should pay i find it quite unfair also tht they r put top of housin list in front of people with familys. the british goverment should put the british public b4 imagrented polish people

Puzzler....I read this article also and it was about a report that first appeared in the Polish express newspaper in Britain! The newspaper was giving its readers advise on how to get through the loop holes and claim benefits while still working etc. What is so psychopathic about reporting on immigrants abusing the benefits system? Even the Brits aren't daft enough to believe all immigrants are doing it!

After a few minutes, word of a Polish man amongst us became known and suddenly there were about three different people talking to him in Polish. They were all English, but each had their own bizarre reasons for knowing some of the language. None of them spoke very good Polish, but what a warm welcome to an otherwise dull public house!

Urmmm....Yes i'm sure thats really what happened Osiol!!....and you think the English have such a high opinion of the Poles that they all go rushing up to them every time they open their mouths??....Dream on dude!!

Most English people seem to be fairly indifferent to Poles. There are a few who are xenophobic - they are probably xenophobic in the direction of any nationality. There are also some people who have a real admiration or at least some interest in Poland and the Polish.

I disagree with most of that....I don't think the Brits either like or dislike the Poles!....Why would they be Xenophobic towards them? Does the average Brit know enough about Poland to have an opinion?....My personal opinion from what i have read on this forum is that they seem to have lots of Opinions about everything i.e.....Churchill ''selling out Poland'' etc....Most of the stuff is complete Sh-t!....Communist propaganda is to blame for most of it!.....and the stuff about their so called Great Empire (with Lithuania).......Since we are all talking to each other in English!!....Well....we won't say any more about that!!...What i'm saying is.... they have this opinion about themselves that is impossible to live up to.

Hey ajgraham also don't forget that it was the Poles that broke the Enigma
code in the 30's and gave it to England just before the war. The Brits just kept up with the German upgrades. The Enigma machine contributed to the success over 70% of allied operations.

Yes you did play apart.......the problem was that.... The Germans added an extra rotor to the machine on the very first day they invaded Poland, which obviously f***ed everything up for the Allies.......To cut a very long and complicated story short which you obviously know F***all about Ogorek.....It wasn't until the Royal Navy had captured the Binary tables from one of the U'Boats in the Atlantic where they able to start reading the codes again......and just for the record......Britain did a great deal more than just keep up with "Upgrades" We invented the Computers which enabled the messages to be read in "real time" and "up to date"....Without them everything else would have been useless......So can i stick two fingers up at you??......but i always give credit where credit is due..... Poland did play an important part!

The Kingdom saved Europe in 1683 when it defeated the Ottoman Empire (Turks) who had reached Vienna. The Poles saved Europe in 1920 when it defeated the Russian army when it tried to invade Poland.
The Poles were defeated in 1939 BECAUSE THEY WERE FACKED IN THE ARS!!!

and if you hadn't of done all this.....who is to say the Germans or the French or someone else wouldn't have?......It was the Brits with Gen Montgomery who Planned the D-Day landings.....does that mean we are responsible for saving western Civilization?.......I think most people reading the above will just laugh!

I've also found that quite often Poles won't accept me as a Pole despite the fact that both my parents are Polish and my family history in the UK only goes back as far as Hull docks in October 1950. I sometimes jokingly refer to myself as a 'Plastic Polak' because that seems to be the opinion that people have.

If thats the case JWB.....since you were born in the UK and bought up in the UK.... wouldn't it make more sense to see yourself as British?...at least being a Brit you've got more things to be proud off!!
