A lot of people who visit Poland say they love it, when you ask them what they like about it you get a variety of reasons.

Is Poland a attractive country to visit and what can it offer that other countries cannot?

News / Russian bear flexes his energy muscles - threat to Poland? [37]

well, it appears to be true that he signed some papers to co-opearate, in simple words to spy on other people, in his case his friends from the church, however we don't know the details.

it appears to be true hmmm...some sort of kangaroo court, It seems the justice system in poland needs to be inproved.

Miranda, you have made the allegations, what specifically has this man done wrong?

Real Estate / Apartment Prices in Sopot [18]

I would say that the bigger part in this phenomenon are playing Poles that are working abroad. Those few foreigners don’t make a big difference if you ask me.

The Irish/english real estate companies tend to create a rush/panic situating thereby causing a spiraling price increase, the pole working his guts out in GB is not going to fall for this trick. He will do his home work and avoid those overnight cowboys.

There is still the two price system in Poland, price for the locals and the price for those from overseas.
Like anything else real estate works on price and demand.
Overseas companies still see Poland as a cheap real estate market and they just pay the asking price.
The poles who have worked in other countries have not done there country men a favour.

Listen Poland per e may be relativey poor.

Fact Poland is poor country with rich people in it.

Sometimes I don't understand what you are saying, you seem to be all over the place (not those damm mushrooms again) Are you saying the rich people are the ones who have come from overseas, if that' s the case won't it create a lot of tension between the locals and new rich from overseas?

Travel / The Polish immigrants' vacations in Poland - it used to be different [20]

Don't get me wrong BubbaWoo, I like Poland, but Thailand/Vietnam are exciting places to visit, you known something different and really really cheap. The people in those countries are very gentle and very nice. Most people who visit go back a second and third time.

But given the fact that the U$ dollar is weak, my husband is not so willing to go to Poland often now.

Thats the bottom line...I remember the days when a bottle of vodka was worth $1US, when you now pay 20zl you feel your being ripped off, Poland is still pretty cheap to live in if your from overseas, but form the tourist point of view after you take away airline fares/insurance and the hassle its not all that cheap.

I've noticed the noise and pollution in Warsaw pretty bad, the streets need to be modified to handle the amount of traffic.
To be honest people prefer to go to Thailand, where they enjoy cheap living, food, accommodation and excellent beaches (much cheaper than going to poland)

Yeah it is fun landing in Poland.

I can relate to this topic, (still want to live in Poland) but I find the place for want of a better word, heavy . how many castle/churches can you visit, some of the lakes are now so polluted that there not worth going to, night clubs, yeah still cheap but risky.food yeah but you can buy good food anywhere, the people friendly but after a while you get sick of the wingeing, the weather sometimes good, probably better in the place you come from, I've been there done that, what else do you do, oops you spend all your time with your mates drinking vodka and learn all about hangovers.

It would have been cheaper visiting places in your own country, at lease you wouldn't suffer any hangovers.

You mark my words, something bad will come of it, eventually!!!!

I'm watching this space... I don't think so, it will resolve itself, once money or concessions are mentioned, poland has 80 days of gas reserves...come on no scare mongering, leave that for something else!

News / English vs. Polish hostility [323]

Good memory, her name was Pauline Hanson, these people come and go and want to come back, her main beef was people from asia coming to oz, mother, father and three kids. first port of call on day one to Centrelink (social security) and payments for life.

I think most people would agree that if your country has a substantial unemployment rate why would you want to bring in people who just go on welfare, keep in mind its more than paying unemployment benefits (which is attractive) but also subsidized housing, transport, medication and free medical/hospitals. Topped up with warm weather to enjoy at the beach.

I think its not much of a ask to reduce immigration while your country has a unemployment rate.

i think it is about time that those english people who are unemployed and are complaing about this should get off the bums and do try working as hard as the polish and asian at finding work.

No one is saying that poles and Asians don't work, its a question of economics, you can only stretch the dollar so far.
Sometimes people who enter other countries are the most wealthiest from where they come from and just cry poor, the poor people would'nt have the means or resources to uproot.

Law / Poland - a more and more Investable Country [41]

lef... many many people struggle from week to week in england... believe me... which is why so many of them are burdend with debt...

Carn't pay that one old boy, wages in GB are probally 10 more than in poland, and polish cigarettes, who in there right mind would smoke a polish cigarette sorry no offence, As a matter of interest cigarettes in oz as I suppose in the UK are heavily taxed (half goes directly to hospitals) a pkt of 30cigarettes cost about $9 approx 20zl

Still think Poland is great, interested in your opinions on real estate in poland

Law / Poland - a more and more Investable Country [41]

...the amount people earn is relative to the comparative cost of living in their country... people might earn more in hard currency in the uk but life also costs them a hell of a lot more of their earnings...

I most be living amonst the fairies, but in england people can survive on there income, in poland most struggle from week to week.
I've notice that some food items in poland are more expensive than they are in oz. just a few things that come to mind is petrol/sugar and beer.

i may well be lucky... but what i can buy with a little bit of money in poland wont even buy me a garage in the uk... a beach hut would be out of the question... hell... i probably couldnt even afford a cupboard in parts of london...

I agree, if you like the polish way of life, your in the box seat to get a good deal.

...and lets not forget that the english are a nation living on credit... our *western* way of living costs... if if the average brit wants to have a little taste of this life then they have to borrow.

Well stand by this will soon hit poland in the same way it has hit all western countries, people will be working for the banks and GE just to have somewhere to live in.

instead of critising us

I'm just stating my point of view, I don't doubt that some people have made a lot of money and lots will continue to make a lot of money, I doubt if the average pole will see much benefit, apart from a invitation to join the mortgage club, and be at the mercy of the ruthless banks.

poland and its people have a hell of a future in front of them... if they learn how to play the game

True, they should go at there own pace and ensure all polish reap the benefit not just the entrepreneurs who have no interest in poland apart from making a quick dollar and then move on.

I'm sure the polish people whould welcome any person who has a genuine reason for living in poland

Frank please settle down, what you need to understand is that Britain and the US sold out poland in the Yalta conference, also Britain did not defend Poland(physically) after it was invaded in sep, 1939.

As documents released recently, the british government knew of the horrors of the concentration camps and did nothing about it.

if you insist on making such sweepingly inaccurate statements then people are going to start laughing at you...

Don't want to stretch the friendship BubbaWoo but I suspect that ola123 will have the last laugh, your the one who claims everything is rosy in poland and when it comes to real estate the sky is the limit, I'm sorry, take off your rose colored glasses and live in the real word!~...most polish people earn a meager amount of money and this so called property boom will further make impossible for the them to enter the property market.

Or are you suggesting people from the UK will take over poland?

Law / Poland - a more and more Investable Country [41]

I've been saying this from day 1, but nobody wants to listen.
I'm not saying that poles who are in for the long haul its good to get your property port folio started. I believe that property prices will bottom out in the near future, but strongly believe sought after properties in sought after locations will do pretty well. Very few people have talked about the stock exchange and in buying shops as a form of investment. (thats were the money will be)

People need to be aware of the collapse in the Japanese economy in I think the 70's as a warning.
Interesting to observe what is happening now in Romania and Bulgaria, just go to there property web sites and you will see the spin doctors at work, or are they cowboys just wanting to make a clean swap and then move on and let somebody else carry the baby ..hmmmmmmm

UK, Ireland / Polish Migrants makes room for '20 to a house [59]

This is true. In Britain you can live comfortably for minimum wage. In Poland if you earn minimum wage without help of your family you'd be starving.

Take the top of the class. thats the reason why polish people have opted to go to other countries, so they can make some money to better there way in poland.

Some people say the average wage in poland is 2500zl a month, yeah for some, most settle for less like 1200zl clear a month.. (if there lucky)

I'm one of the first to defend Poland and Poles against racist remarks but we also have to accept the truth.

Can I ask a simple question, what is wrong with doing that, what sane person wouldn't want to save as much money as he could to return back home.

Providing he breaks no law whats the problem.
