Language / Przesiadała się w... or do? [3]

First of all, please tell me if I am asking too many questions, and I will shut up :)

I found this sentence:

Przesiadała się w Londynie do San Francisco...

If I had written that sentence, I would have written it this way:

Przesiadała się z Londynu do San Francisco...

Which form, please, is correct?

Language / mój vs. swój [9]

Please, what is the difference between swój and mój?

For example, if a girl says "to swoja ziomalka", whz does she use swoja instead of moja?

Language / TAK, ABY [4]

Here is a sentence in Polish

"żyj tak, aby był to twój ostatni dzień".

I thought that it should be, "tak jakby" instead of "tak, aby"

Could anyone please tell me, if "tak, aby" can mean the same as "tak jakby"?

Language / Non Multiple Choice Online Tests [10]

Are there any online tests for Polish, preferably advanced, which are not multiple choice? Multiple choice is not especially helpful because 1) it only tests the passive knowledge and 2) even if you do not know certain things passively, you can choose the correct answer by process of elimination =P

Thank you =)

Language / Polish Metafor [4]

I am poet; therefore I understand verz well the concept of metaphors. However, I cannot succeed in understanding how a moon can be half-naked, even metaphorically.

Nocne chmury głaskały pooraną bliznami twarz półnagiego księżyca...

Am I translating that incorrectly, or did the author indeed mean to write "the face of the half-naked moon?"

Language / Łatwo [5]

Please, which is more correct,

£atwo do zrozumienia

or £atwo w zrozumienie?

I find both "do" and "w" after £atwo in this sense, and I do not know which is more correct, or if they both are equally correct.

Thank you =)

Language / "Potrafić" and "móc" - what's the difference? [9]

Please, what is the difference between potrafić and móc?

I know that they both mean can, but there must be some difference in use and so far I have been too stupid to figure out what it is... =(

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

This is an edit. I worte something and changed my mind...I do not understand politics well enough to participate in discussions such as these and I should keep my mouth shut.

History / Ancient Polish History thread [180]

I want to learn Ancient Polish History and all of the Kings, as much as possible. But I don't have time to read a great deal of material. Could anyone start a History Thread which has some kind of order to it? I would be so grateful =)

Genealogy / "You don't look Polish" statement [29]

I was told that I look Polish although I am mostly German.

I have no idea what is supposed to look German, and what is supposed to look Polish :)
I have dark hair :( an oval face and big blue eyes.

I hope I look Polish =D

Language / Pomagac, pomóc [6]

Pomogać w czymś...pomogać w pracz domowej...

Please, when is the instrumental (or locative???) used with pomogac/pomoc w, and when is the genitive used?

That is probably a stupid question, but I don't have any grammar book. :(

UK, Ireland / Polish girls 'too pretty' for British schools [150]

Usually I don't post in topics such as these, or most other topics because even though English is supposed to be my first language, I actually don't understand English very well at all; so I can't understand much of what is said. But here I am.

First, beauty is as beauty does.

Second, I've noticed that a lot of Polish girls do not wear makeup. I don't either. I don't wear any at all. So it is very nice to know what a person really looks like.

Third, this post made me curious whether I would be considered ugly or pretty :) I was born in the USA. I have nothing to do with McDonalds because I am a vegan. I have no idea who Britney Spears is. Whether I have brains or not is something that I have not yet figured out myself. Anyway I am in blood mostly German and just a bit Polish. One of my Polish friends told me that I would be pretty if I were not so thin. I used to say that I am half Polish but I realised that having a Polish grandparent does not qualify me as half Polish...

Language / JAKBY i JAK GDYBY [6]

What is the difference between Jakby and Jak Gdyby? Could anyone (Polish native) be so kind as to give some examples in sentences, too? I would be very grateful.

Language / Question about Polish questions ^.^ [4]

I would like to know, please, if I may post more than one question about Polish here. The rules say "do not ask multiple questions, and don't beg"

But I am full of questions...
