Work / Some details about Teaching in Poland [51]

Hut. As a teacher of English all you are doing is spreading American global aims by the back door.

Damn You! Now everyone knows ! I must report back to Herr Bush for instuctions you have won this round comrade but someone will take my place. we will not rest until Every Pole drives an S.U.V. McDonalds Uber Alles!

I would want a job with a much higher status

You really know how to hurt a guy.

And how very American to want a Higher status job simply so people will view you in a higher light instead of following your heart or wanting to help people. To me there is no higher status than helping someone towards a better life. Small european counties? do you mean area? as Poland has almost twice the population of Australia

Work / Some details about Teaching in Poland [51]

TESOL teaching is nothing even I have a TESOL certificate and I can hardly read or write!

I feel you are trying to dupe us here you have made no mistakes in your writing. Moreover your writing has the flow and cadence of a natural speaker of English.

Just because you had a bad expeirence don't GENERALIZE as you did see above.
I take particular offense as I know how important it is for my students to learn English and how expensive it is to take lessons at my school, am I always excellent ? no. Do I have bad days when I am tired because my baby kept me awake half the night ? yes.

Do I always try to teach to the best of my ability? Yes.
Yes there are plenty of bad teachers or part time students who teach, But none at my school all native speakers there have been in Poland two years or more teaching. And there are many great teachers here Native speakers and Polish! The best is to be able to learn from both. So go cry on your Momma's shoulder. You got me all worked up now I need a drink!

News / American wanting to know about views from Poland [37]

The real problem with America is too many people believe the media, that breeds the fear so the Gov. can control you. Like being afriad to fly because the Govern ahh sorry terrorists attacked N.Y. Believe me Americans should fear other Americans far more than terrorists.

And since I moved to Poland it helped me stop shooting people. almost 3 years and I haven't shot anyone yet !

Love / BLACK GUYS POLISH WOMEN [809]

nicgentile

Thanks for sharing the experience I always wondered. I am from N.Y. and after a year in Poland I was in a restaurant and in walked 5 super tall beautiful black ladies, They spoke english but not just any english, New York English ! They were the Krakow basketball team we talked for an hour or so they said when they walked around they felt like aliens from outer space the looks they got. I have to admit as tall and hot as they were it was hard not to stare. They made me less homesick.

Life / Can you think of any famous Polish personalities? [147]

Look around you...try never to read a book written by a German, try never to listen to music composed by a German, try never to use a machine invented by Germans...TRY!

Its actually quite easy, I will say I am glad Mozart was Austrian though. Ah and how many machines were invented by German Jews? And can Germany claim them or more appropriate would they want to be claimed as German?

So you can't even claim your greatest hero by your previous logic!!
I believe that is game set and match- Polska. Do widzenia

Life / Can you think of any famous Polish personalities? [147]

I didn't want to get into it but if you look at the list of Polish-Americans of reknown it is staggering even if you limit it to parents born in Poland. Check wikipedia for the list.

Why let Bratwurst Boy rattle your cage everybody? The damage the German people have done to the world will always outweigh the potential good they will do, and all the beauty they have done or will do will always be marred by what one despicable generation did . Then you hear "oh we were just following orders" the most notorious explanation for murder. Like it acquits you for opening the gas valve or firing the pistol into the back of someones head.

Life / Polka music - hot dog? [11]

Hmmm real Polka music is difficult to define, but some of the popular names in the genre are Frank Yankovich(weird Als dad) Eddie baloncyk and the master Jimmy Sturr who is'nt Polish but is considered the King of Polka. Polka isn't Polish its probably an Americanized version of traditional Polish music like people said its Czech, But many Czech and Polish Americans claimed it as their own so people think it comes from Poland. I am not an expert on its origin though its somewhat like Diskopolo here in that everybody hates it until you've drank a few and then you dance your pupa off to it.

Work / What is a comfortable salary in Poland for a family? [7]

tax is about 19 percent, then there is health insurance for a family of four could be about 300pln or more for first two years. you would need (after taxes) at least 3000 pln.

I have a wife and two kids in Katowice. 4000 is much better!

Work / Some details about Teaching in Poland [51]

I should clarify that the Brazilian Is by no means in any shape or from an idiot, it was actually TheKruk himself who was the idiot I mentioned.when I first started teaching, but I learned how to do it, as my masters was in theatre its like acting. Simply, my point was if the students like the way you do it you can always find a job.

Work / Some details about Teaching in Poland [51]

To answer a few people i have been living and teaching english in Poland for 2 and a half years. I live in Katowice which is not the preferred destination for most people looking to live and work in Poland it is an industrial and rather new city for Poland so it ain't so pretty. But because of this jobs for teachers are relatively easy to come by here. I started at a Callan method school, easy training and you can work after one or two weeks if the method suits you. It gets boring after a year. But after this first year I developed a good reputation and could basically choose my school, I have no TEFL or CELTA but I have a masters in teaching so that helps. I don't speak Polish very well and at first could'nt speak a word. There are plenty of schools to learn Polish PROLOG in Krakow is great for beginers and a lot of fun.

Oh I am Native speaker from America and very often I have seen schools hiring any idiot from English speaking countries just to say they have native speakers my school has a Brazilian "native speaker" for example. just be aware that things work differently in Poland like being paid on time and they expect you to do a lot of things for free, like travel to companies, on your own money or prepare extra lessons etc. I got fired for not helping my school rip-off the Callan book. Beware of TOP English Schools in southern Poland boss is a real back-stabber. And I have heard horror stories from people hired by Millenium services too.

Real Estate / Foreigners: Please don't buy Polish Land! [823]

I agree as far as you're talking about your own experiences but not all of the language schools around here treat, so called, "natives" right. For example, I didn't get paid twice.

Where you at Freebird? Poland? if you don't mind me asking.
But yeah what the hell is up with that not paying people on time!? its happened three times to me this year no apology no explanation just "well thats how it works in Poland"

I work in Katowice for a large school with branches all over Poland.
Sorry this is off topic.

Work / Can u teach English in Polish schools without a polish degree? [14]

Teabag my advice is teach at a private language school, I work with some teachers (I work at an Empik language school, private) who work in public school the pay is terrible 700 to 1000 zloty monthly they do it because the school pays their health insurance (ZUS)

If you have TEFL or TESL you can basically get a job anywhere, and make somethign on the side doing private lessons. I work a lot because I have kids and a wife to support and after I pay taxes and etc. I make between 3500 and 5000 a month, which is great for a single person, you could live like a king or queen. Alas for me I live pretty well but don't save much. Also I have private students who are fluent and pay 50 zloty an hour just to keep in practice. I have been here 2 and a half years so anything you want to know I am happy to help.

News / Polish gay activists win human rights case [19]

This is a tough one, if Poland wants to be accepted by the more liberal E.U. countries they will have to become more tolerant. And everybody knows the more you repress movements the louder and better organized they become. The Poles should know better than anyone. personally whats the big deal with letting Gays and lesbains have a parade once in a while. Its strange Jesus taught love and toleration of everyone and yet the staunch christians seldom practice this. Like Bush stands for family values and Chritian ideals and then goes and kills people and destroys families in iraq. Ohhh right they aren't christian so we(the US) can kill them and God doesn't care
