Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

do you think there are more gays and lesbians in Poland than in other countries or less or maybe an average amount?

avg, but they don't show themself like these ones from Germany/UK or another more developed countries.

Governement even thinks of giving gays discounts for buses, trains to move easily and spread freedom.

lol, good joke.

Life / Poor Poland? [34]

I'm sure Bubba gave you good, solid advice, after all, he does own property in Poland himself.

yes, indeed, and he gave me some examples how does it work, but lef seems to think that now I'm gonna be a new player on real estate market - don't worry lef, not yet and not in Poland.

Life / Poor Poland? [34]

You seem pretty easy to fool, the points to consider here is that Polish property is overpriced and don't be fooled in thinking otherwise,

you have no idea what we were talking about, so please don't bother...

Life / Poor Poland? [34]

PMed you slwkk

Ok, I've changed my mind due to BubbaWoo PM. In some cases buying a flat and taking a mortgage loan can be good investment, and it doesn't look that bad when you notice some possibilities. I also think that many of us (Poles) do not pay attention on long-term investments, we just look for sth that we can make money on quite fast, say in first 2 or 3 years.

Life / Poor Poland? [34]

Ok, I've just done some basic research. I'm not a specialist about these things so I may be terribly wrong, but... let's see. The main thing in mortgage is that we take it and bank give us $ to buy a flat. Then we pay it back month by month for xx years + bank takes some percent of money....

I've found some 'mortgage calculators' and how does it look... typical nominal interest rate = ~ 3%. If we take 500.000 PLN mortgage loan for 20 years, then we will have to pay back 665.000 PLN, montly it will be ~2700 PLN.

My information are based on : online.kredyt-hipoteczny.biz.pl/kredytymieszkaniowe/0/20/ and kalkulator.kredyt-hipoteczny.biz.pl/

This topic is far more complicated, but this are only general calculations. If I'm 30 yrs old how can I be sure that for next 20 years I will live in the same city? Today I work in Warsaw/Cracov, next year maybe I will have to move somewhere else.

In my opinion mortgage is a good solution for people 40+ years old who want stabilization.

Life / Poor Poland? [34]

yup, people just dont have a clue about how mortgages work...

I know how does it work, but I said without any credits. With a mortgage he can buy a flat almost immediately, but then even 18 years wouldn't be enough to pay it back.

Life / Poor Poland? [34]

I am just wondering how this is structured in PL: ppl can afford to buy luxury things and not afford a mortgage.

Let me show you sth... let's imagine quite successful man, 30 yrs old, who live in Warsaw or Cracov and earns quite good money - 6000 PLN. Let's suppose he lives alone, normal guy who wanted to make a career before getting married. All costs of living in Warsaw/Cracov : 3000 PLN, holiday twice a year - 5000-6000PLN, car insurance - 2000 PLN .. unusuall spendings (some clothes, girls and rather small gadgets) 5000 PLN yearly. Ok, let's see how does it look.... he earns yearly 72000 PLN, spends ~45-50k PLN so he can save 22 - 27k PLN (say 25k pln). New flat in Warsaw/Cracov - 400-500k PLN.... it means he can afford to buy a new flat (without any credits) after ~18 years. I don't know about other people, but if were him I wouldn't save the money to buy my own flat... I would rather try to live life to the full and then I would like to invest some money, set some business or sth like that. In my opinion we should enjoy our life while we are still young.... - and I thinks that many people in big cities think the same way.

Life / Internet access via Sony Ericsson GC89 and cellphone provider [11]

I tried an Internet connection via bluetooth thru a Nokia handset. It was extremely slow for my needs. It was only good for checking email and not for sending documents that were over 500kB in size.

Yes, because you used GPRS. Next time read about EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA ... maybe your cell supports some of mentioned above.

Travel / Need a quiet escape in Poland (walking, romantic) - recommendations? [15]

That's a great idea, thanks! We could take our bikes down on the train, I think, too. I think there are bikeable trails in the park

Of course you can take bikes... last year my friends and I were biking there - biking through Roztocze was the main reason why we went there :) There are trains with special place for bikes - just take a look at rozklad.pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en? (select an option: carriage of bicycles required).

084 506 020 421 (phone)

omg... it's a cell phone number, so without 084, just 506 020 421

I think there are bikeable trails in the park.

Yes, there are great places for biking, but you should get some map. I'm not sure if there are some publications about biking through Roztocze in English, but you can always improvise :)

Travel / Need a quiet escape in Poland (walking, romantic) - recommendations? [15]

Hey, you should go to Roztocze. You can find some peaceful places for example Zwierzyniec. I paid a year ago about 30zl per night (I mean 24h).

I can recommend the place in Zwierzyniec where I was last year:

rudka 61a street / 084 506 020 421 (phone)

it's near the wood, nice place.

News / Poland biggest problem [125]

if poles move away from the current churches, it will be better for poland.

I think we need about 20 years for this. Many young people don't care so much about
religion.

I believe you :-) In my opinion position of church is too high. Today church is involved in everything in Poland, including politics which isn't good...

Travel / Is Warszawa Centralna train station that dangerous? [8]

Is it safe enough to do those things I wanted?

Yes ;-) Don't listen to these people who told you that anymore... if central would be that dangerous then I should probably be dead by now, because I'm always staying at the East station (which is considered as far more dangerous).... sometimes in the late hours. Ok, I'm not foreigner, but that doesn't matter.

Language / Going shopping in poland ,what to say? [13]

Thanks a lot ,this is really helping me. :)

you're welcome :-)

There is so many things in this polishcoarse i bought ,but not one single thing about how to buy something ,it's all about saying which color things has and stuff like that.

You should take a look at some publications or programs named 'Rozmówki Polsko-Angielskie' (or Angielsko-Polskie) - it's for Polish people who just want to know basic English for typical situations like buying sth in a shop, renting a room in a hotel and so on .... usually there are only English dialogues + Polish translations and some addional words.

Language / Going shopping in poland ,what to say? [13]

Poproszę dużą Coca Cole! (waits for clerk to get the stuff) I jeden dużą niegazuwany woda (again waiting for the clerk) I Szesc butelka piwo Tyskie(or any other brand but i like Tyskie). Then i ask "Ile?"

Poproszę dużą Coca Cole. Jedną dużą, niegazowaną wodę i piwo Tyskie, sześć butelek. Ile płacę?

but it might be hard to buy sth without an interaction with a clerk... I mean you can be asked a few things like size of the water bottle (that's why it's better to ask - poproszę półtoralitrową wodę/coca cole/whatever - it means that you are asking for 1,5l bottle of [...] - but I'm not sure.... Coca Cola probably is sold in 2l bottles - so instead 'półtora litrową' you will say dwulitrową'). You can be also asked about mineral water - which one do you want - the most popular in Poland are probably Nałęczowianka and maybe Cisowianka. Another set of questions... what do you want if there was no what you asked.... it's good to know a word 'obojętnie' + 'jakikolwiek/jakąkolwiek' ;-) Examples:

a) Poproszę wodę niegazowaną półtoralitrową
b) jaką?
a) obojętnie, jakąkolwiek

or

a) poprosze piwo tyskie
b) nie ma
a) no to niech będzie jakiekolwiek w butelce, 6 sztuk poproszę

and so on... :)

Language / Going shopping in poland ,what to say? [13]

What i'm wondering is ,if i'm going to one of those shops that is open at night(the ones you talk through a small window). The people who is in this shop often dont speak english.

I haven't seen shops where you order sth through a small window ;-) Are they exist in Poland? At nights usually are opened some of big hipermarkets (like tesco) or gas stations (where usually are also shops).

Czy moge dostac jeden duzy Coca Cola?

Chcialabym jeden duzy Coca Cola.

just ask:

Poproszę dużą Coca Cole (kokakole :-).

Life / Army National Service in Poland [95]

understand nothing is going on there, at the moment, but what happens if Moscow decides that mother Russia needs some extra land, where do you think she's going to look :)

I know, here ;) Well, but the army will also need educated people.... I can offer them my knowledge when it will be needed. I think I would have done more this way.
