Merged: Does anyone know this meat ?

Hi . . I have a problem :D Im trying to find the name of a cold meat thats sold throughout Poland. Its pork, sold in a roll, has a herbal crust on top and it has circles of fat going through it which looks like a swiss roll ??? Its absolutely delicious, and I want my Polish friend to get some for me

Life / Weekly Food costs - Krakow [16]

Polish way of making soup is great. It's a good start and any neighbour will show you once you break the ice.

Im irish so Ill probably break the ice with alcohol hehe. Ive tasted some Polish food before, delicious and hearty !! cant wait :)))

depends on where and what you eat.

I dont eat much, and Im cheap :))

I've lived on 50 pln z week, bought own food from the market

I love the idea of buying food from the market, cheap and fresh, way to go !!!

It'd be a doddle to live on 50PLN

Hope so !!

That is easy, when you know where the market is.

Do you know where it is in krakow by any chance ??

If you want to eat out the cost obviously skyrocket.

Im more of an eat at home person to be honest, although I am partial to the occassional indian curry :D

I went to a place the other night which served a big bowl of soup (a meal in itself) for 3zl.

I like the sound of that :D

Im going to give up the car for the moment, and perhaps return to the idea later when I am settled or have more money to put aside for it. I got a room close to the centre for 700 pln every mth, bills are included in that. Im sharing with 4 others, but its ok for the moment and I will maybe look for something else later.

Thanks for your replies everyone, you have really helped me a lot. Its always a little daunting moving to a new country and culture but getting advice on the practicalities of everyday living and expences from people living there is fantastic.

Na zdrowie !!! :))

Work / 2400 pln take home in Krakow - can I live on this? [10]

Im not big into brand names to be honest, and I enjoy cooking so I would maybe just eat out one night a week. I dont intend saving money there, but I was hoping that 2400 would be enough to get by on a modest lifestyle. Thank you for your answer 'hello' I appreciate it

Work / 2400 pln take home in Krakow - can I live on this? [10]

Hi there. I’ve recently been offered a job in Krakow and the salary is 2400 pln take home, after tax and contributions etc. My question being is this enough to live reasonably ok in Poland? Taking into account the cost of an apartment being around 1000 pln a month, Im wondering can I live on 1400 after that? I’m aware that people here exaggerate their salaries and the cost of living so I would appreciate only genuine replies please. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any help as Im very keen on living in Poland, love the culture etc
