Here comes the Anti-Immigration marches.... [114]
It tells me that the British people have a government whose policy on admitting immigrants both from the A8 accession countries and from outside of the EU was never in a manifesto of any sort and therefore was never made clear to them. The backlash that everyone is talking here is not against the foreign workers themselves but against a government that allowed wholesale immigration without considering the impacts upon our already creaking social services or what would happen when the recession hit (and don't tell me that the recession is a surprise to any politician or banker).
When someone has lost a job through no fault of their own, has a famly and a mortgage and sees jobs going to migrant workers then of course they are going to be aggrieved. This is not a reaction from lazy people who do not want to work, that category of Brit gets no sympathy from me. These guys do.
BTW the decision on the awarding of the contract to the Italian firm was taken by Total following a competitive tender so Misty's explanantion is a little off beam.
