PS I don't think there was much TV when we had an empire worthy of note or condemnation depending upon your point of view.

As for you not being registered with the WRS, your employer could get in trouble for employing without all the correct paperwork.

It's up to a £5,000 fine for the employer and all work up to now does not count towards the 12 months qualification period under WRS. You are supposed to rgeister within one month of starting a job but not before you start a job. The employer is supposed to provide a written confirmation of the job but the repsonsibility for registering lies with the individual.

Look on the positive side. She has been paying tax and NI contributions for I presume 2 years. There are a load of nationals who have never paid a penny into the coffers but have taken loads out.

It's an interesting OP. My perception is that most European immigrants are not enduring much of a problem in most parts of England but to see the results of a survey like this it would appear that there is a change in their own perceptions. I guess it would be more evident in smaller communities with a high concentration of immigrants. On the other hand I don't think any one country of origin would stand out much in the bigger cities.

The concept of providing benefits for families having children is inherently unfair, even if we ignore the moral and social implications of increasing population size when the planet is already overpopulated by people called Wayne wearing baseball caps. Some people just find it easy to conceive whereas others find it exactly the opposite. I therefore propose a fairer form of income distribution based upon attempts to conceive. I think it could be a vote winner which will also, at a stroke, reduce the number of feral youths hanging around town centres and drinking ten bottles of white lightning in under 30 minutes. At 50ZL a try some people on here ,based upon their claims, could retire within six months.

I used a drive through ATM once in the States. The driver in front of me had to finish their conversation on the cell phone first. Then the driver realised that they had stopped too far way to get their card in so had ro reverse a bit and drive forwards again. Then the cell phone went off again so they answered that for a while. Then it was time to rummage through the purse (handbag) to find the wallet (purse). Then they had to find the card. Next it became obvious that the pin number was not working so there followed another delving into the purse looking for the scrap of paper where the number that should not be written down had been written down. Eventually the transaction was completed only for the cell phone to go off again allowing time for the driver (who was by now vaguely aware of the queue of cars behind) for one hasty 'I'll call you back ". It would have been quicker to park up and use the normal ATM;)

Did I say it was a woman driver?

Now it is. I could have coped with typing 'l'ordinateur' but there was an official communique from that lot in the French Government that pull out your toe nails for using Franglish telling me to use engine of something which made my life hell for a while before we could go back to using 'le computer' when they descended upon the heathens using 'lubbly jubbly' instead.

They're trying to and good for them. I remember many years ago when they tried to make 'le computer' become' l'engine de computation' or some such abhorration. Since at the time I seemed to be writing 'le computer' in every sentence I was writing it really got my goat;)

Never mind 'le weekend' is only five days away

But you will be unable to get permanent residence without speaking French or English

Does anyone know from a privacy/data protection what are the laws/rules around someone taking your finger prints?

The rules are not about the taking of personal biometric data for a purpose that you give your consent for per se. Most data protection legislation around the world focusses upon the security of your data once you have provided it and to protect you from unauthorised sharing of that data with third parties that you have not been told about. When somebody takes your data they have to present you with a Fair Processing Notice (that's the UK terminology) that sets out what the recipient can do with it.

Of course, 'national security' usuallly renders that invalid.

Expensive? - try Moscow or Tokyo

Dangerous? It's got worse in the urban connurbations but it's not Medellin.
