Love / Why are Polish girls constantly ill? [166]

Hmm. I am more than half Polish and I am always sick. So is my sister. I know she has an immune system deficiency thanks to genetics, and I'm beginning to wonder if I have it too. I'm always very weak and fall ill rather easily. :/

I never even knew Polish girls had a tendency of getting ill.

Genealogy / strange Polish mixes [116]

Greeks certainly have nice genetics. My grandpa is half Sicilian and half Polish, but he looks nearly 100% Italian. And even though my mother is about 40% Polish, she looks like her father and has a darker complexion as well. My skin isn't dark like an Italian's, but it is dark than my sister's.

By the way, do you live in Poland? I know, slightly off topic. But I am blonde after all. :)

Here's a a link to a picture of my boyfriend wearing a Russian military hat, lol. And those certainly are NOT hickies on his neck. ;)

Genealogy / strange Polish mixes [116]

I agree. I should post a picture of my boyfriend sometime. You can completely tell he is Russian. Well, he was born in Siberia after all (the oblast of Tomsk to be exact). But he has lovely blue eyes, a square jaw, high cheek bones, dirty blonde hair...

I love Slavic boys. :D

Well, thank you for the compliment nonetheless. :)

Hmm, and if I marry my boyfriend, our children would be 50% Russian and then everything I am. That'd be a nice cross, methinks.

I'm about 60% Polish. The rest of me is a mix of Danish, German, French, Sicilian, English, and Irish.

I'm a mutt. :)

Genealogy / Searching for great-grandparents' hometowns. Names: Falkowski, Polinski [3]

I wish I could be of help, but I do know where you are coming from!

Quite a few of my ancestors immigrated from Poland and Sicily around the turn of the century to America via Ellis Island and settled in Jersey City and South Amboy. It's really difficult to find out the info, atleast in my experience. You could always try becoming a member of Ellis Island's site and see if it'll allow you to access more information.

Or even ancestry.com. I tend to find quite a few of my ancestors on that site.

Best of luck! :)

Language / The best way for me to learn Polish [89]

Language books certainly helped me with Latin, so maybe I'll give that a try. I was pretty good at Latin and it was easy for me to memorize most things, but my teacher wasn't the best at explaining the different cases (I believe there are around 7? in Latin), hence why I didn't take AP. I did get up to Pre-Ap though! :)

I just love learning about my ancestry and I've been wanting to learn Polish for quite some time...

Love / Polish men vs German men: Who is hotter? [513]

Who has the hottest men-Germany, Poland, or Russia?

Russia. :) My boyfriend was born in Siberia. I've had a thing for Russian boys for the longest time. Their accents, facial structure... everything. <3

Language / The best way for me to learn Polish [89]

Apr 12, 09, 09:04 - Thread attached on merging:
Easiest Way to Learn Polish?

I know this is a very generalized question, but I'm curious at to what the most efficient way would be to learn Polish.

My grandma taught me how to bless myself in Polish and she's taught me a few sayings, but she's also told me that it's incredibly difficult to learn. She goes to Poland every few years to visit family, but she can only read the language. She can speak it to an extent, but not fully enough to teach me. I'm only 17 and I'm obviously in no rush to learn it now, but I would like to learn it in the future.

In school I've taken 4 years worth of Latin, but that's the extent of my languages (well, besides being fluent in English since I do live in the US after all).

Would videos be best? Books? Taking Polish in college? A lot of colleges I'm looking at don't offer Polish directly, but most do offer Slavic languages/culture.

My boyfriend is fluent in Russian and my grandma has told me there are some minute similarities in the languages, but I've also found Russian quite difficult to pick up. I know how to ask some questions in Russian and say some things, but that's about it. I wouldn't even be able to read a word in Russian.

Love / I can't trust Polish women any longer - where to meet a foreign girl? [123]

Hahah, actually most people around here have boyfriends or girlfriends at age 13 now. So I was a bit late finding my first boyfriend at 16. But then again, I don't see a point in dating unless you're serious about it... but everyone thinks it's just "fun."

Love / I can't trust Polish women any longer - where to meet a foreign girl? [123]

Thank you Mystic for a serious answer.

No problem. :)

I know how difficult relationships can be. My current boyfriend is my first. I was tempted by quite a few American boys, but they all turned out to be jerks. Foreigners are different than what I'm used to and that's why I like them.

Just keep your chin up. I'm sure you'll find the right girl soon enough! And in regards to your last sentence... tell me about it. At my school, 90% of the girls are trashy drug-addicts that drink underage. And they date boys that are exactly like them. You know, the guys that cheat on their girlfriends, etc. Then again, I'm one of the few "good girls." I've never tried a drug, I don't drink, and I actually have morals!

Good luck, though. Foreigners are so much better. :D

Love / I can't trust Polish women any longer - where to meet a foreign girl? [123]

Although I'm a female, I can completely relate to the foreign companion thing. I'm 17 and I'm currently dating a 20 year old Russian immigrant. He was born in Siberia. I don't know, but American boys tend to be complete morons.

And I know quite a few Americans go for foreign men. And I live in the USA, by the way.

Oh, and just to make things sound less absurd...

We've been dating for over a year now. And despite being a 16 year old dating a 19 year old, I had parental consent. I just find foreigners much less materialistic than American boys..

And on the subject of the weight of American women... there are quite a few that are obese and it's disgusting. Atleast, that is my opinion. And I've lived in the US my entire life in both the North & South. :) I guess it just depends. Evidently my great grandmother was 100% Polish and very heavy. But I've heard she was the sweetest woman around and a great cook.

I think there is obesity in many countries nowadays because people sit around and do nothing, but I will admit that a good percentage of America is overweight. They have cars to take them places, etc. I for one would much prefer riding my horses everywhere.
