News / Poland is the most friendly neighbor of Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian poll ... [132]

Musimy wiedzieć, z którego spadniemy najpierw i kiedy”.[5]

is the actual quote

for our not-so-Polish-fluent guests

Having those two pacts (non-aggression pacts with Nazi Germany and Russia) we sit on two stools. We need to know from which we fall first and when.

hahaha good one ;) I like Russian language - it sounds great to my ear - but guess what I like many languages for their individual traits - they all have these nice little or bigger unique things - unique sound etc

News / Man Why Do People Like PO Instead Of PIS [120]

There were no hints, no proof, nothing, the entire case was based on a single testimony extracted by blackmailing her friend who herself was guilty of bogus financial operations.

that's what I call hints - anyhow an innocent person is not doing such a thing (especially in such circumstances) - the hints must have had some solid background - there are also even more shady explanations possible - like threats to the family if Barbara Blida says anything

And you're not ready to admit anything, short of PiS officialls skullfvcking a newborn child before cameras and sodomizing the pope you're just as hardline and unreasonable in your support as hardcore commies back in the old bad days.

well you just don't want to disclose the source I guess - your choice - I count it you don't have any reliable

News / Poland is the most friendly neighbor of Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian poll ... [132]

he authors Hehn, Kershaw and Davidson felt that Piłsudzki was inept in giving Germany time to rearm and underplayed the post-Versailles sentiment.

sorry - what do you actually mean - should Poland have waged a 'preventive war' against Germany ???

I don't get your point

The above link by a POLISH source shows Piłsudski's approach to France as being unsubstantiated hearsay at best. Can you show me the proof that he asked France for help?

if you carefully read the article you have given the link to there is a strong hint there there were such approaches - to call it hearsay is faulty

It was Piłsudski who had very limited faith in those pacts so cut the crap. As I said, he broke down when the prospect that all his good work would go undone emerged.

Seanus I'd say too much wine - and too eager to make gross judgements - I don't know if he broke down (maybe he did) but you claimed he was sure he could went against Germany and Russia alone

The point is clear, Gumi. Those authors felt that Piłsudski missed chances and let Germany rearm unabated.

use your own mind sometimes Seanus :)

You said "suggested the French", Gumi. Sorry, a strong hint is not an actual proposition or an actual suggestion in this case, is it?. It's a possibility, don't you agree?

please read the article in wprost carefully - the artilce takes the thing as a fact - encoded messages are mentioned - do you believe in homeopathy btw Seanus??? :):):)

ok I don't know if there were fingerprints on the gun - but what are you actually suggesting is ??? and what does it implicate?? let's take these implications further - will you please???

why was the member of ABW (and not CBA as far as I know) or anyone in ABW interested in killing Barbara Blida - please forget your prejudices sometimes - and draw conclusions

what I think you just fail to admit Poladn was horrendously (beyond the imagination of most of our compatriots) corrupt state before PiS came to power (you should remember they had no full power) and that it is falling into that downward spiral yet again - but then again you have to forego or ridicule lots of facts that hint to that

Life / Experiences in Polish stores or "Can I Shop In Peace?" [3]

It's kind of like an accident and lawsuit, both waiting anxiously to occur.

well - this is the most flawed thing in America - that companies have to buy millions for a hot coffee that burns someones thighs - where is the common sense - I have read that it has a huge influence on goods and services prices

'Wszystkie odbywały się poza ministerstwami spraw zagranicznych i nikt nie potrafi dzisiaj przytoczyć ich treści'. You are basing your case on this? Again, it's unsubstantiated and unproven.

Seanus the question - do you believe/disbelieve homeopathy and based on what - is still valid? Will you know the difference then?

If indeed the discussions between the Polish marshalls and French generals took place, then the French would have entertained a solid proposition. However, they likely perceived the wishy-washy approach as not worthy of pursuing. They didn't feel the will and commitment to be enough.

well I don't want to judge French reasoning or stance behind this 'No' - one important thing the French were traumatized by the Great War and any kind of war wasn't to be popular - even in 1939 some French press insisted that they don't want to die because of Gdańsk/Danzig - and I believe it reflected the social moods quite good - and I don't judge that - but you claim that if there was some serious propositions from the Polish side of the preventive war the French military and political circles would go for it - so if there were any Polish proposals they weren't serious enough - the thing is it just doesn't fit into greater picture see - it is always better to see in broader perspective - perhaps even the French military were interested in such a war adventure but this would be very unpopular and so was probably dismissed by French politicians (well you actually have to remember that higher military echelons are also politicians of some sorts - or at least they were in some previous decades ages)

Piłsudski wanted to see Hitler in power as long as possible (Hehn, 2005). Does this sound like a man who really wanted to use the 1921 Franco-Polish alliance to oust him? Come on man, think a little.

I can't see you can think for yourself - it also takes some knowlegde though - and you see things as static methinks - and they weren't there as they never are

btw - does the author make any effort to back up the claim and further explain the issue (even if based on some limited knowledge) ? or just goes with you as an authority on the topic :P :):):)

btw Seanus are you avoiding an answer to the question about homeopathy - of course your answer will be meaningful :)

Gumishu, what NO? Show me the proof that that meeting took place. When discussing history, it is axiomatic that the discussing parties accept certain things as given. This I cannot accept as given in the absence of proof.

The readiness of mr Ziobro and his goon squad to break the law and imprison people for show which brings early communism to mind.

do you know any details about ballistics ?

it is not difficult to examine and state what was the range from which a weapon was used - as far as I can remember it was often mentioned that the shot was direct to the heart from a gun directly pointed to the chest and and touching the chest

Like the fact that Ziobro accused a doctor of being a murderer while the guy was innocent?

sorry - "już nikt nigdy przez tego pana życia pozbawiony nie będzie" - does not definitely mean that he accused the guy of murder - if someone refuses to treat a patient because the patient does not pay the bribe and in the consequence the patient dies is this not - pozbawiony życia przez tego pana ( you sure know there is ambiguity in Polish languaga as for przez tego Pana) - how much do you actually know about the case of Mr G?? if the guy not only accepted but also demanded bribes (even if not always directly - I mean verbatim) then the guy should go to prison - he destroyed himself already - I am not actually insisting on any kind of punishment in cases like this appart from revealing the truth for all to know - I even would still let the guy work as a doctor - he surely can still be of great to many people -it is his deeds we do not accept not the man himself - everyone has the potential to change for the better

Poland was even more corrupt when corrupt PiS came to power, your point being

sorry but based on what on your personal belief - doesn't count for me

you are somehow religiously anti-Pis - it is not that I say it is bad - it's irrational

Or that they arrested some of our finest soldiers and attempted to doctor evidence to get a show out of it?

now I don't understand - first you claim that the scandal was Polish troops killing civilians then you state the scandal was doctoring proof against the soldiers involved - could you make up your mind - or did I not understand some point - I seriously advise you to check who was in charge of Military prosecution back then, especially those who went on to press the charges before you pass any judgement - I can see you are very quick to judge - based on your prejudice of course

still waiting for this stealing PiS evidence, other corruption on the side of PiS?

yeah I know taking Giertych and especially Lepper to government was corruption in itself - then actually trying to form a government with a leading PiS role was corruption in itself - simple conclusion - really run your conclusions further than you use to

News / Man Why Do People Like PO Instead Of PIS [120]

Gumi, I agree with Sokrates in post 52. There was a documentary on the Gdańsk shipyards where interviews were conducted and many were gutted at the utter lack of resolve on the part of the Polish government to suitably resolve the issue. It was about the disillusionment of those workers and their consequent relocation to England as a protest at what they perceived as betrayal by their government. One of the officials went to England to try and bring them back and share in their sense of loss and create new hope through investment of his own.

Seanus - my point isn't that PiS is an ideal, the prodigy, the real thing - ever superbly competent - and specifically in this issue they have done all they could - I don't know actually if they have done a damnedest thing - the thing is they wouldn't just simply give in to the European Commission demands and they would argue for that (for example using the German example and now more recent French (and as far as I know Dutch) example) - what I believe is just that PiS were aiming to keep the industry running even if they eventually acted incompetently

PO did not only just give in and give up - they actually went on to rob the thing - which you will have to dig more in Polish to have a smell of

You're contradicting yourself. Did Jaroslaw K say it or not?

Or was it the other nutty twin, Lech "spieprzaj dziadu" K?

ok no misquote - misplaced quote - and not simplisticly attributable to anything vetala had in mind

I would have said the same - you should watch the footage of it jonni - don't be prejudiced - it helps :)

just one last post for tonight

actually a quote: for those who believe like Sokrates that PiS is evil

Obecnie prokuratura dysponuje dwiema sprzecznymi relacjami z przeszukania domu Blidów.

Leszek Piotrowski.

Language / Polish and Russian - learning by a beginner [30]

Hello guys,

I have the same question and also looking for help.
I need to learn by the middle of next year both Polish and Russian at an intermmediate level at least... help, anyone? I too am a beginner.

then it must be REALLLLLY intensive time of learning I tell you - and solid a teacher/course - only the most gifted people can do that on their own (using various learning tools) - so why not set for a more realistic goal

He was not present at the scene.

he was present at home perhaps not witnessed the shot but claims to know the ABW lady was not in the bathroom with his wife - so probably saw her in the corridor - she claims she was inspecting through the partly open door - it seems reasonable and plausible

and you seek some conspiracies where there most probably aren't
you don't seem to notice conspiracies where they (most) probably are

jonni - I find this person the best suited in Poland - you don't have to agree - I'd rather have a boorish patriot than a fakely sleek cheater who allows for robbing this country and leads the campaing of brainwashing our youth

We know he did not.

man - if the guy suspected his wife was killed in a fight who would go and let everybody know about it - ever heard such cries by him or anybody from his surrounding??? - sometimes drop your axioms and see things from other perspectives

Ask the workers, Gumishu, they have nothing to gain by lying. Politicians, on the other hand.....

are you naive or live in a different world - does an average worker know how the company is run or the surrounding situation - unless the management makes a sincere effort to inform the workers about the state of the company and current affairs there is often very little knowledge among workers - it doesnt happen too often in this world by the way - but it is the right thing to do - don't you think - as is also the workers having fair share in the incomes of the company

gumishu:
I would have said the same - you should watch the footage of it jonni - don't be prejudiced - it helps :)

Everyone is prejudiced against PiS! Its a conspiracy.

chasing someone into absurdity has to have a solid ground - I never claimed everyone is prejudiced against PiS - but I can clearly see those who are - if someone doesn't notice any good side of PiS it is a very good indication he is

can you see conspiracy here - these are words of the SLD MP - how do you imagine what caused the possible fight? if the ABW woman saw Blida taking a gun out of a closet what do you think was her reaction??? would you expect it btw - your post factum higher ground teaching doesn't interest me -

my opinion is there could have been some fight when the ABW woman saw Blida with a gun in her hand and tried to stop her - she most probably didn't manage but probably left some fingerprints on the weapon - someone perhaps could have thought it helps to remove any fingertips from the weapon - was it the policewonam herself , somebody of the squad of the day or someone else later we don't know yet

then again I wouldn't surprised that at the end of the day it springs out that this lack of fingertips is thing taken from the ceiling (I mean from the top of one's had) that media most of which have a strong anti-PiS agenda exploited

btw I don't claim Ziobro's or Kaczyński's and their subordinates actions were spotless - there could have been some going past or around the law during that times - but I do approve of this because the goal seems very desirable to me

he didn't show any open-mindedness in this debate of ours here - first he blatantly speaks horrendous rubbish which he couldn't admit - then he hides behind the backs of some Western historian - which he can't suspect of any hidden agenda - and I easily can - Westerners seem not be able to accept their 'authorities' of kinds can have hidden agendas (or at least biases)

News / Poland is the most friendly neighbor of Ukraine and Russia - Ukrainian poll ... [132]

Gumishu, stop havering/blethering. Look at one of my posts above where I imply that I could easily be wrong. Proper historians often lock horns in battle and it isn't always clear who is right. I said that historians are just going on available information as they probably weren't there themselves. You guys are on home ground with Piłsudski, I can easily admit I am wrong as it was yourselves who were educated on him, not me. There's absolutely no shame in that. However, I am putting some posers to you and, rather than SHOW me to be wrong, you are just claiming that I am like a foot-stamping little schoolboy. I have shown ample instances of my 'knowledge' of that period and you haven't cogently refuted it.

if you want to be treated seriously don't start casting judgements around (Piłusdzki was mythomaniac who though he can have a go with Germany and Russia at the same time) - then we can have a debate - don't start debates if you are not very well informed - and from various sources - I find myself excused for any lack of knowledge - I don't have very strong opinions on the issue - I am suspicious of many claims but I can consider most reasonable ones - I am no historian and don't have the need to study most historical subjects in depth - but I will go on to contradict any claims that contradict my knowledge if only to have to modifiy my views as a result (which has happened many times already)

we can have debates if you have questions also and not pass judgements - be ready to accept different ways of thinking judging some past decisions

You still haven't shown to the satisfaction of most that Piłsudski went to France. Not one link but a blanket assertion without solid foundation.

and again - are you interested in truth or in winning a case? (debate) - this is no contest - why can't you consider it possible that there were some Polish offers to wage a 'preventive war' and try to fit it in some bigger picture - maybe it won't fit - but maybe your bigger picture is somehow skewed then - it is sometimes very refreshing to ask various non-typical questions - and the answers may also come quite surprising - we live to learn don't we?

I have a question then. Where is your proof that a Polish delegation met with a French delegation to discuss a preventive war? Sth more than "a hint" please. Also, I wanted to discuss why Piłsudski didn't labour the point more. He was sounded out apparently but there is just too much hearsay.

I don't have any such definite knowledge - I just think it quite probable - as I don't have very specific knowledge I can't discuss motivations with any credibility - I can only suppose some points - as far as I know Maginot line was put into creation already in the 20's (1926) - I don't know how advanced the works were in 1932-3-4 - still I think it already had an impact on the French strategic and political thinking - wouldn't you agree

Language / HOW DOES RUSSIAN CZECH, URKAINIAN SOUND TO POLISH SPEAKERS? [18]

I like the sound of every one of these languages

it is easier to understand Slovak because it has very similar accent/prosody/intonation to Polish - it's like Czech spoken with Polish accent

some Slovak dialects sound very much like Polish only the words are different (I have witnessed some Slovaks on their shopping in Zakopane and first thought it is some strange Polish dialect then realised there is no such Polish dialect)

there is this thing like Lithuanian and Russian - they are very similar in sound - and if you don't listen closely you can take Lithuanian for Russian - but when you do you don't recognize a word - except this bliad' thing (which is of course Russian anyway)

Language / Polish and Russian - learning by a beginner [30]

well yes - you need to try to find someone who will teach you some reasonable Polish perhaps for exchange for English conversations

if you teach the lingo yourselve then:
my advice would be to start learning the sounds of the alphabet/the sounds of Polish first - you don't have to be able to produce them all (or even recognize them all cause there are pairs of sounds that are instantly recognizable as different (though similar) for Polish people but cause much trouble to English native speakers - Polish very much like German is quite consistent in how same letters (or letter combinations) are pronounced when spoken (and where the pronounciation does not reflect the spelling directly there are quite strict rules that describe these changes - in other words Polish can be easily read out when you know the sound values and a couple of rules to the pronounciation - even if you don't know the words

dół in the mood terms is different to dół in the physiographical sense ;) so it is quite reasonable to have them declined in different ways (even if the new declination of the new word springs from colloquial speech) - and that this new declination isn't against patterns of the language shows koń (mam konia)
