Love / Foreigners in relationships with Poles - do your in-laws accept you? [66]

Why do you automatically presume that we are against such marriages?

i didnt presume anything, I cannot see where you got that conclusion from

I merely said that that is what her friends asked and it was funny! as neither of us, it would not matter as we love each other

and you dont have to 'choose' a faith to be married, you can just get married in a registry office without the interference of religion at all!

:)

UK, Ireland / Polish night in an english club? No way....... [51]

I really feel those who are racist are beyond ignorant. Please include, insecure

I disagree with the bouncer not letting them in, it would have made a great experience for them! In my city we have salsa nights, should we only let in latino's? (the answer is no btw :) all in!) Its a fun way to DIVERSIFY and have fun :)

I don't like people who make degrading remarks for the sake of it. peer approval. or misplaced hatred for the bad things in there own lives.

Women, to me, are the greatest beings on this planet! I love them! there bodies, there souls, there nuturing, there guile. So many aspects! (and im told some women actually find these in men too :) )

As to race. I feel the need to remind people that if you think about it, the earth is but a grain of sand on a very large beach. We are so small (and getting smaller with advances in transport and tech) That it is foolish, petty & bigoted to 'hate' someone for where they are from!

I do believe it IS ok to hate them if in a due and fair process they are found to be criminals (but then, most of our criminals, are homegrown :)) and we latch on the ONE 'foreigner' and label ALL of them for the bad and wrong in our homes - its MADNESS!

eh, my statement doesnt say that i presume YE are against such marriages.

i dont like that, that they felt I had to ask what faith i was, as they would have made a judgement about me, without ever having met me and THAT is what i dont like.

Im sure you can appreciate prejudice :)

Love / Who is not looking a Polish woman .... :-) [17]

I wasn't looking for a Polish woman...I WAS looking for a woman (polishwomen.com) and i found many :)

It just so happened the one I found, who was the MOST amazing was in fact, Polish.
Which bodes well for my opinion as all her friends and family are wonderful too!!! :)

Give over - we all make judgements based on what little info we get and first impressions take ages to over-write. Ever met a person you just disliked from minute one but years later your best of pals!

As human beings - we catergorise, label and make judgements without intending or meaning too. We apply defaults, preceptions on experiences, past instances in a nano second

its behavioral science baby!

er i think its fine too, im just saying not my number 1 place to go - in Ireland, the places that serve alcohol in the evening are usually loud and not conducive to getting to know the otehr person. just to drink and drink - infact - i think thats why they are so loud that you drink more talk less :)

Life / Non-verbal communication of Polish people? [10]

Oh god yea, Ive been to shops in Poland and it is the elderly are the worst at shoving and HITTING! whats with that!! - excuse me works MIRACLES!

The younger shop assistants LOVE the fact I am struggling with Polish and are very helpful and charming I must say! even the blokes were friendly!

In Ireland - it is not uncommon to say 'hello', 'how are ya' when you pass a stranger on the street. In poland, old habits die hard, i shocked some old fella when i did this and made some other girl smile

My girlfriend tells me it is just not done and that is why - i ask why, she just says, because.

it really doesnt answer the question

History / Concentration camps: where did all the birds go? [10]

jimbo - where are you from?

I was schooled in the UK and IRE and i learned about the camps in a very, detailed, way
I appreciate this education as its good to give young impressionable youth the true horror of it so that it lasts them all there lives. lest they ever forget and repeat the past.

I would hope my children are taught about it too. never forget, never repeat.

History / Concentration camps: where did all the birds go? [10]

artur, tak, we only did a little on the gulags, but with the conc camps we were told that the gulags were another example of human atrocity and that was all we needed then

though now, more to learn would be bemeficial

History / Secret Society/Secret Police in Poland [47]

i wouldnt mind living there!

as to coincidence - i dont think you believe in them :) well Poland seems to have turned out ok doesnt it? gotten better - so seems like a good conspiracy?

I dunno - so many good and bad stuff said about it - it confuses the issue!

here they have no power in politics or religion and are openly indifferent to it! they mainly do charity and advertise themselves as a fraternity - which is why i was curious to see the involvement here.

I know in the US the dec. of ind.had several masons signing it - but couldnt that be, i want ind. and oh, im a mason?

UK, Ireland / Will the Poles be out on St. Patricks day [66]

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

was not written for Poles.

its based on a tragic event in Northern Ireland.

Though, nearly every society has a 'bloody sunday' (we have at least two!)

unday Bloody Sunday" is the opening track and third single from U2's 1983 album, War. The song is noted for its militaristic drumbeat, simple but harsh guitar, and melodic harmonies.[3] One of U2's most overtly-political songs, its lyrics describe the horror felt by an observer of The Troubles in Northern Ireland.

the new years day was written for the Poles though...

Tak, Prawda :) based on the Polish Solidarity movement

Magdushya

SBS was written about the Northern Irish event only. One of U2's most overtly-political songs, its lyrics describe the horror felt by an observer of The Troubles in Northern Ireland.

New years day was written originally as a love song for bono's wife but drew its inspirations to the Polish Solidarity movement.
