Genealogy / Bakerowski. John (Veronika) Prissack [3]

Hi Sebastian,
His WWII draft card does show Kamionko, but the site below and several others don't show this spelling.....bunch of Kamionka & some Kamionki. It's not shown in the Polska Atlas Dodowy Index either.

jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp

May want to obtain more US records to verify spelling & see if you can come up with a province. Also, you'll want to obtain his parents' names, including mother's maiden surname.

Hope this helps.

Genealogy / Looking for family and/or info Surname Jewula [7]

Only 4 listings in "1998 Directory of Polish Surnames">
herby.com.pl/indexslo.html

Abbreviations are for the old provinces.
These towns were in the old province of Tarnow.

You can try writing to the mayor of Ostrusza for relative information. For family records, write directly to the parish & also ask them about putting you in contact with possible relatives.

Hope this helps.

Genealogy / looking for family or surname Kapchinsky [5]

To start tracing family, begin with known information on your parents, grandparents, etc., always going backwards in time. Records obtain for each generation, will provide information about the previous generation. Talk to family members, especially the older ones & ask questions. Obtain US records for family members: census records, birth, marriage & death records, passenger list. etc.

With more specific information, perhaps we can help more. Immigrant's first names, wife's name, children's' names & birth years for all. Where the they settled in the US & when the came.

If you prefer,, you can email me the information.

Genealogy / Brzeskiewicz / Kroll Names [16]

The family came from Osswa Poland. Also spelled Osawa.

Is this town of birth?

The only liating I found for Osawa is in Russia. None for Osswa.

It could be Osova or Ossowa, both with several locations in Poland.

Other possibilities:

jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp

Do you have the manifest for the family (couldn't find)?

Genealogy / Brzeskiewicz / Kroll Names [16]

This doesn't match your immigration story, but this 1910 census sure fits your Kroll family. Wife's 1st name would be Victoria in English. She had 10 children & 3 living in 1910. Daughter Jeanette (Jania?) born abt. 1902 Poland......could put her as the 7th child.

Have you obtained Jacob's naturalization records? Should have his town of birth.

The application to marry should have both Jacob's & Jania's birth towns.

Birth
records for Jania's children should also list her birth town.

In case you don't have this information:

Name: Jacob Brzeskiewicz
Date of Death: 7/5/1951
Date of Burial: 7/9/1951
Age at Death: 56
Marital Status: Married
Last Address: 3847 South Iowa Ave.
Funeral Home: Fennig, T.
Cemetery: Saint Adalbert Cemetery
Location: Section: 4
Block: 60
Row: 1
Lot:
Grave: 22

Name: Jane Daroszewski
Date of Death: 2/18/1978
Date of Burial: 2/21/1978
Age at Death: 76
Marital Status: Widowed
Last Address: 2919 West Parnell
Funeral Home: Sass, Jos.
Cemetery: Saint Adalbert Cemetery
Location: Section: 4
Block: 60
Row: 1
Lot:
Grave: 21

I know that going by another person research is tempting, but you really should do your own research to verify the information. That way, you'll know that you are getting the correct records from Poland.

Genealogy / Betley: In search of family and family roots, can you help a soldier? [5]

Hi Eddie,

Was he married when he came to USA? In what state did he settle?

There is an immigration record for a Stanislaw Betiej (age 30), wife, Bronslawa (age28) & son, Wladyslaw (age2) arrived NYC on 8/3/1951. Threy were going to 900 Wood St., Chicago. Is this your family?

Possible match to above:
Michigan Deaths, 1971-1996
Name: Stanislaw Betlej
Birth Date: 5 Sep 1920
Death Date: 12 Sep 1981
Gender: Male
RESIDENCE: Hamtramck, Wayne, Michigan
Place of Death: Highland Park, Wayne, Michigan

To trace family in Poland, you need to know the town of birth. This can be obtained through USA records for Stanislaw & family members. Some records to get>his death record, obituary, complete marriage record (if married here), naturalization record, birth records/baptismal records for children in the USA, ss application (if all else fails!).

Once you have town of birth, let us know....we should be able to get you information on where to write for records in Poland
