Life / Quality and availability of Sky channels in Warsaw [5]

Hi. My understanding on how it works is that you get your satelite dish pointed at the right angle and satelite and you can connect up your sky box and receive the programmes. Reception is as good as in the UK. I inquired to a company satservice.pl. They might be able to give you more details. Beware though as they sell subscription to Sky. I inquired if they provided the service in poznan. They told me that they did not install satellites dishes there(in poznan) but could provide me with the sky subscription. They told me to get a local company to install a satellite dish and point it at a certain satellite at a certain angle. Unfortunately i dont have the details to hand.

Try and pay for your subscription in the UK as any company providing subscription to sky over here seems to add on a nice little sum for themselves.

Life / Banks in Poland - Any good recommendations [30]

Hi. My current bank, which will remain nameless, has aged me about 10 years in the last year with their ability to 'mess' the simplest of transactions up. Can anyone let me know of any good experiences with banks or any recommendations as it might be time to change. Key things:

- Ability to get things right the first time(or second time at a push)
- Good internet banking service.

Life / Banks in Poland - Any good recommendations [30]

Agree with you Wroclaw boys ....but there seems to be a huge number of idiots sitting behind desks....Thats the problem......!!!
I have the internet banking from BZ WBK and it is great. I am relunctant to move for that reason. I just have to avoid dealing with any actual people behind desks.

Thanks for all recommendations.

Life / Banks in Poland - Any good recommendations [30]

I am actually with WBK. While all staff are pleasant, their ability(or lack of) to follow up anything is unreal. I am not demanding but the hassle i have had with the simplest of things. And i have dealt with a number of branches and they all seem to be the same. Their internet banking is great thought.

Life / Public Hospitals in Poland - How much to stay in one? [6]

Hi. I spent just over 2 days in a public hospital on poland. Went in Tuesday morning and out thursday at noon. As i was not covered by insurance, i had to pay for the stay which i do not have a problem with. However, having spoken to colleagues in the know, they felt that the cost was quite high. I am wondering if i was charged the 'Expat' cost. Cost of stay was 1800 pln.

I have since heard that i probably could have got it cheaper in a private hospital. As i have to get some more things done, i just want to see if i would be better to go to private hospital and at least have the comfort of it.

Hospital was in poznan.

Life / Public Hospitals in Poland - How much to stay in one? [6]

Thanks for that. i will have a look.
G, When i say that i could get it cheaper, i mean that i could get it cheaper than what i was charged. i know well that private hospitals are normally more expensive than public ones.

I was in for some simple tests all of which took less than 90 minutes in total.
My stay worked out at about 900 pln per day(assuming i was charged for 2 days) or 600 pln if they charge me for 3 days.
i got a quote from a private hospital in Warsaw who would charge me 300 pln per day just for the room. At least i would have a bit of comfort.

Life / Polish Terrestrial TV [15]

There is a website liveuktv.com where you can sign up to watch a good few stations via your pc. It will cost you. I have not signed up myslef as i am trying to reduce the amount of TV that i watch and that would be far to tempting. So i cant say anything about quality etc.

Travel / Warsaw Metro & Public Transport & WiFI in Warsaw [10]

Hi. i have travlled the metro twice and it is fine. Basic but gets you from a to b quickly. I think they are extending it bit by bit but there is currently only the one underground line.

in relation to other forms of transport, warsaw has a very good bus and tram system in place. A number of different trams lines and many buses. Warsaw people might complain about it but i am originally from dublin and oh to have a transport system like warsaw in dublin.

Life / Experiences of Polish Hospitals [29]

Hi. I might regret asking this question but what are people experiences of Polish Hospitals? I have to go in for a 2 day procedure. I have already spent 2 days in a polish hospital this year for tests so i have an idea. However, this next stay will involve a bit of an operation i.e. getting my tonsils out and i was just looking for peoples expericences of surgical procedures. I know i wont be getting 5 star treatement in relation to food etc.

I do have the option to have it done privately in ireland but that will involve having to get a number of referrals, going back and forth and will probably have to wait a few months.

The professor in poznan that i am seeing can bring me in June/July and i would like to get it out of the way.

As i said, i have spent 2 days in a poznan hospital already so have an idea about things. And I come from ireland, where you risk the potential of getting any number of bugs if you venture into the public health system.

Any constructive advice welcome.

London Chick..i have to establish that yet i.e. private or NFZ.

Thanks Darius..yeah , i am kinda aware of the post treatment recovery(though trying hard to ignoer it). And you are correct that i am not a kid. Unfortunately, the tonsils are apparently affecting a skin condition i have and making it worse hence the need to have the out.

Life / Experiences of Polish Hospitals [29]

Nice polish medical story..

Have to get vaccinated against hepatitis b before op. Think i had it done a few years ago. They can tell by blood sample. Went to one of the private clinics in poznan today to arrange an appointment for a bloodtest...i was greeted with..'Do you want to do it now?'...10 minutes later i had test done and will have results on Wednesday. Cost was 75 zlt....about 23 euro.

Work / Course on Polish Taxation [3]

By any chance, has anyone ever heard of a tax course available to ex-pats giving an introduction to taxation in poland? I would really like to get an idea as to how thinigs work for self-employed, employed and those with rental income. I have managed to be all three...

I have asked my accountant to clarify things but it is very hard to get a straight answer.
