Life / Support groups for Drug Culture in Poland. [7]

This may be anecdotal because I only spent three years in Warsaw, but I was given the impression by people I met there that the profile of drug taking was different from the UK in that younger people were not partaking in a great way. In the UK you see very young kids taking them. I got the impression that it was the university age group where the problem became apparent. There was a drug culture amongst the upwardly mobile middle class but that could be just Warsaw - big city and all that.

I'm not launching into a moralistic crusade here but having witnessed first hand the violence and fear among communities forced to grow the raw materials for some class A drugs I would never touch the stuff.

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

don't live in a little world. I own homes on two continents, have an Ivy league degree and am sick and tired of people who refuse to use their brains when confronted with the attacks on our European culture.

Well I own homes on three continents, possess a first class honours degree from Oxford, a Masters from MIT and an MBA from The Sorbonne and am appalled by the unbending, rigid nature of your arguments. There is no black and white position to be taken on immigration and cultural integration. Sometimes it works extremely well and other times it presents bigger challenges. Not all immigration poses a threat to stability and our way of life.

Life / Foreigner bars in Warsaw [15]

Are there any bars that all the English speaking foreigners hang out in?

My info is a bit out of date but the following were always popular:

Someplace Else at the Sheraton
Champions Sports Bar @ the Marriott (40 TV screens)
Organza
Bar Below & Bradleys
Any Irish bar !

UK, Ireland / Buy a property for FREE in the UK [12]

Lots:) Why do you think we all sell in London and buy up great chunks of other countries. House prices in the UK are frightening.

Life / Sexy underwear Polish style [37]

Faced with declining demand for their intricate doilies, the lacemakers of a Polish mountain community came up with a solution - sexy underwear

Should make dinner parties more interesting - plain table cloths out, exotic lingerie in:)

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

I believe that you were reffering to me

Best to ignore these people M.

I always thought the sequence to follow was establish the facts, draw your conclusions and then make your recommendations. Strikes me that some of the people posting here have jumped straight to stage 2 if not stage 3 !

Polonia / Germans: Do Poles like them or dislike them? [217]

Deutschland did keep their labour market closed to the 2004 accession countries, that does not however equate to poles are illegal aliens in Deutschland

My twopenny worth on the German position.

Germany

Like Austria, Germany has insisted on continuing restrictions on workers from the former communist states, beyond its eastern borders. Workers from these countries will have to apply for work permits until at least 2009. However, the country issued 500,000 of these permits between 2004 and 2006. "In practice Germany has given as many people work as other big countries," EU Employment Commissioner Vladimir Spidla said on 2 May 2006. Germany has also imposed restrictions on workers from Bulgaria and Romania.

Language / Should I learn both Polish and German [147]

No - everybody should learn English - see the article below:

Study or Starve

Unemployed immigrants in the UK will
be made to study English or face losing
social benefit payments under a government
initiative aimed at tackling the fact
that job centres spend around GBP 4.5 million
a year on translation fees while as
many as 40,000 immigrants claim they
cannot find work due to poor English.
Welfare minister Jim Murphy believes the
money would be better spent on language
tuition. From April those out of work with
poor English skills will have to prove that
they are enrolled on an English course.
