Travel / BIKING in POLAND [75]

I was riding a bike this afternoon! Excellent weather in PL to start the cycling season ;) It was 20 C degrees here today!

If you plan to cycle during Easter in PL - be careful on Monday - you may end up being wet! :)

Travel / holidays - do Polish people need visa to Caribbean? [6]

Thanks sledz and sapphire.
I was thinking of traveling in end August/September - but hurrricanes and tropical rains about which I read put me off a bit. Well, I would not like to have my dream holiday spoiled by the weather, saying nothing about feeling safe...

I also read that some islands are much less likely to be hit by hurricanes, like Aruba, Curacao...

Life / WHY POLISH PEOPLE DON'T USE THEIR NATIVE FIRST NAME WHEN ABROAD? [136]

people struggled with my name in work (Iain) and it got changed just to Jan instead which isn't much different just removes a syllable

People at my work do not struggle with my name but.... some of them who dont know me/havent seen me call me by surname when emailing me! Got used to it though :)

UK, Ireland / Dublin city centre - interesting places to see [33]

Hi All,

Thanks again for all the posts.

As the trip was short we concentrated on walking around Dublin's city centre.

Our flights were on time, the weather was very good, it was nice to spend some time away together but....
Dublin itself smells of piss!
I got the impression we landed in a "big toilet" rather than in Irish capital!
I am sorry, this was the first impression we got! Staight after getting off the airlink at Aston Quay! Then again, when we were walking wee streets towards Grafton area! Why is that?

I know that every city has dodgy areas but...

UK, Ireland / Free Flights at Ryanair?! (UK / Poland) [39]

Ryanair are advertising free flights ( no taxes etc ) for travel between October and January.

no taxes, free ticket - yes - but add, £10 for handling fee....

Hmmm, was flying with ryanair yesterday, lol, just after we landed, we heard loud fanfares and then the message saying that "we landed 20 mins earlier! ryanair flies on time! etc " (I cant remember the exact message)

it has to be said - That was strange!!! I have never "seen" such marketing!

Life / City Pole versus country Pole [27]

I would say it all depends on region and people Wroclaw Boy.
Some villages (their parts) are full of big, modern, nice houses and are dominated by rich people who built houses to move away from the city centre.

And there are regions/villages where you feel as if you turned back time, people there seem to think the way which nobody nowadays would think, they use characteristic "village words" etc etc...

UK, Ireland / Dublin city centre - interesting places to see [33]

Thanks a lot both of you.

SeanBM, I take it that you are Irish? I really liked my trip to Ireland several years ago so who knows I may fly again. I will never forget Cliffs of Moher!

Trevek, prison sounds interesting - although I always say I am good and innocent :D :)
And definitelly we are going to have a pint of Guiness somewhere - maybe even in O'Donoghues pub :)
have just looked at the weather forecast for Dublin - looks good! :)

UK, Ireland / Dublin city centre - interesting places to see [33]

Thanks again newgrange. Yes, I checked their web site as well in the past but realised that all the branches mentioned are not located in the city centre, oh well.

I will see what I find - well, this is not the main point of the trip but I thought I would have a wee look... Quite like this brand.

Thanks

UK, Ireland / Dublin city centre - interesting places to see [33]

Dziekuje SeanBM, much appreciated! I am sure the trip will be nice.
The last time I had Guinness was several years ago - was in Shannon and Limerick with my cousin - so who knows, I may have a pint during lunch!

Cheers!

UK, Ireland / Supermarkets in Poland: differences and similarities to the UK. [62]

About the counter thing, true. I just put my hand out before they can slap it on the counter. They try to go round my hand but I don't let them, LOL

I am Polish and do something opposite in Scotland! LOL As soon as possible, I just put money on the counter before the seller puts out his hand! Usually I win! :)

It's like a competition! :)

What a shame that paying by card does not give this sort of "fun"!

UK, Ireland / Dublin city centre - interesting places to see [33]

Thank you all of you for the advices, Guinness storehouse and Malahide sound interesting and will see if I find my Esprit shop on Grafton street, or just around it :)

Hello nikttaki,

I am from Dublin, perhaps it would be best if you told us what you are interested in?.

All depends on the weather as well, hopefully it will be dry!
Well and we will not have too much time...
I do not ask for anything in particular - just a general question - although it is a very short trip I would not like to miss something which is well known & close (in terms of the distance) but I did not know about it (as they do not write about it in tour guides), if you know what I mean.

Anyway, I am sure we will enjoy as me and my Boyfriend are celebrating one year of our relationship during this trip :)

UK, Ireland / Dublin city centre - interesting places to see [33]

I googled it, yeah, but I am asking for the advice from someone who knows the city and can recommend something about which they do not write in online guide books, if you ken what I mean.

UK, Ireland / Dublin city centre - interesting places to see [33]

Howdy!

I am visiting Dublin soon, just a weekend trip, can you recommend anything interesting/unique to see in the city centre? (We will not have enough time to travel away from the centre). Any good places to eat dinner? Owww, and anyone knows about Esprit (woman clothes) shop in the centre of Dublin?

Any advice would be much appreciated,
Cheers!

Food / PIERĂ“G LUBELSKI = BUCKWHEAT PIE? [10]

I think that "pierog lubelski" is bigger than a standard pierog - quite simmilar to "pierogi ruskie" but additionally there are wee bits of fried bacon inside, plus small pieces of ham (can not remember what else) - but it's delicious! :) especially with some fried onion or additional bacon.... old polish cuisine!!!

Love / I need advice - I just found out my Polish boyfriend in Ireland has a wife and children. [40]

This is not nice - he cheated you and his wife - but probably she does not know about your existence whatsoever!
That's not fair towards you and his wife!

Hmmm, have just read about well known polish politician - he moved to London in the past, got to know a woman there and ... now he is about to divorce with his wife - who was living in PL during the time when he was appointed to work in UK. the news was revealed when he was "caught" buying a ring for his wife to be :)

Hmmm, Valentine's Day is coming soon, see what happens :)

UK, Ireland / Danio (vanilla) yoghurt on UK market - help!!!! [25]

Stepmagic, thanks!

To be honest I have a bad experience with polish shops - was asking for ordering a bigger amount of Danio in one of them, got a leaflet

with email address and web site address of the shop - heh, but the website does not exist and my email could not be delivered! well, if they give old leaflets to their customers it does not encourage me to order from them!!!

Hmm, do you have 400 grams Danio in your shop or just the small ones?
I need 25 big 400 grams vanilla Danios for a start :) well, all depends on expiry date too :) although I have never had problem with too many Danios :)

UK, Ireland / Danio (vanilla) yoghurt on UK market - help!!!! [25]

Wroclaw, I have already written to UK Danone :) They replied they do not sell it in UK market.

Bakoma does not have anything as delicious as Danio :( Thanks for a suggestion though Prince.

dtaylor, I eat danio, sorry Danio, as I just like it :)

Finally, Seanus ... :) ... it was just a wee trip to Dundee, and an accident I was in tesco there, you can imagine my big smile when I saw Danio on the shelf, well, plenty of them!!! unlike in any polish deli around - every time I pop in they have just a few Danio on the shelf, between polish sausages and cottage cheese! :) I dont think they would have more than 16 packs danio ( = 1 box) lol :)

Danio with "biszkopty" is good or danio with jelly.... mmmm:) oh, enough, I think somebody from Danone should read it and send me a nice gift for a free advertisement!!
